Hey dark! For practice I usually put it on the easaiest dif level and go to work. It's a good time to practice judging your jumps, how tite you can take curves, etc. YOu probably already knew this *smile*, just letting you know that if you've beate pro, it's almost impossible to get beaten by art on easy. Man is the sound in this game not awesome? Everything is so clear and in it's place! When did you beat pro? !!! Hi Che, I heard his engine on the right side then switched to the left. So that is the sound of me passing him! I did win the race and after my engine stopped, heard his engine to the left. I was talking about playing the Art's engine file AIEngine1.wav It is in stereo and the engine sounds from both channels. I assumed the file would be in mono. If you think that track is bad, wait until you see some of the monsters I've created for class 4 and higher in the full version. The track named hanging force has a jump and a force field right in the middle of a loop for example. Mooahahaaa. What kind of times are you guys pulling on the first track btw? I'm curious who has the fastest times so far. Fortunately in the full version you can check everyone's times on the web, which leads to some pretty heated competitions. In the last tournament we had the diffference on two tracks was down to the hundreth of a second, now that is some tight racing right there. Later, Che ___ Gamers mailing list .. Hi Che,That was a joke about Art's engine, since if he had a YuGo engine it would be a 2 cylinder or something very slow like a lawn mower. Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions
Yah, I'm still tinkering with the land easy and hard, I was hoping to have it set so if you used the gravity puller you would have to put in a touch of jump jets at the very end of your fall to keep from taking damage, but it doesn't look like that feature is going to make it for this release. Glad to see you are using the mouse, I'm confident it makes for better lap times in the long run, though some of my testers would disagree. I struggled a bit with the sound of Art's engine, it needed to be distinct but not overbearing if it was a close race, this is the best I've come up with so far, but one reason I left the sounds open is so people can experiment and hopefully come up with better sounds for some of this stuff if they want. I hope to have the full version ready for the list members on Sunday or Monday if testing goes well, so keep your fingers crossed. Hi Che, Love playing the demo of Rail Racer. Just one problem I'm gripping the mouse too hard and it squeaks. Plus my hand is getting tired holding it so tight. I'm getting better at the turns and jumps but I've been just taking a break on the loops. I'll probably work on getting better at them next. I noticed two sounds in your folder, landHard.wav and landEasy.wav They happen to be the same sound. Is a different hard sound something you're saving for the full game? Hi Bryan, are you sure you were around a mile back from Art? You should be within at least a tenth of a mile to have a chance of catching him at the end. Also note you can change the way distance reporting is done from time to miles in the options if that helps. One more thing, you have probably already done this, but be sure and check your altitude when you are getting used to the jumps, you shouldn't be much over 35 feet up when you clear, anything more and you are burning time, and of course use your gravity puller after the jump. Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions
Hi Che. glad I could say something vaguely useful. I think perhaps I am pushing down slightly on the mouse, which obviously isn't a good thing, but I'll certainly try it again. Because I actually needed to go off and do some work, I only got a few goes at the bonus track so my times there were pretty appauling (I beat Art at the easiest difficulty, but that's not saying too much). On the demo track my best lap thus far has been around 30 seconds, and my best course time around the three minutes 6 seconds mark, but most often i get times of three minutes 8 or 9. When I beat Art at pro level I had two nitro ports, and used both of them, one towards the beginning of the race and one at the end, but I stil only won by just over 1 second, so there's deffinately room for improvement there. As to the atmospheric thing, assuming it wouldn't be trouble to put in it might be a nice extra feature. there are a fair few different atmospheric environments you could have, city, country, sea sure, desert, snow, rain, jungle, industrial area, - and probably a load more assuming the sound files are available of course. I'll certainly be looking forward to all those tracks in the full version, - I can see that Rr is a game that's just going to keep getting harder and I'm going to have to practice. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions
Hi Dark, Thanks much for that mini review of the demo, I'm really glad you like it. I feel a bit like Sally Field now. Smiley sticker to anyone that gets that joke. Anyhow, regarding the atmospheric effects, that isn't a bad idea, maybe I could add a combo box to the track editor where people could select from different settings for their tracks with appropriate sounds playing depending on what they choose, I'll look into that. You are the first person that has reported opening the bonus track, congratulations, did you have to install extra ports to do it, or just the default single port? Also, I'm curious what kind of course time you are getting, I'll have to race it again myself and see what I'm pulling. As stated before, in the full version if you have web posting turned on, your times will be posted to the web. Regarding the mouse, stick with it man, I know it takes some practice, but it will pay off in the long run. Although some beta testers can turn blistering track times with the keyboard such as Karl, I really think the mouse is a superior input device for the game, especially when you get to the truly difficult tracks. If you think the bonus track is hard, you haven't seen anything yet, the beta testers can attest to the chalenge of some of the higher class tracks. You may want to adjust the sensitivity of your mouse, and be very careful not to pull back on the mouse in the curves, otherwise you will decelerate after leaving the curve. To be safe, you may want to push up slightly as you exit curves. It is importnt to get used to picking up the mouse and moving it so it can be reset without affecting game play. I am considering doing a q and ay on vip Conduit dot com for anyone that has questions about Rail Racer in the next few days, so if you want to participate, head over to www.vipConduit.com and get a free membership and download their voice chat software, which is the best out there in my opinion, and it is custom made for the blind. Anyhow, I'm off to put the final touches on the full release so we can all race against each other, this is gonna be a blast gang, and from the sounds of it, you better watch out for mister Dark, he's trouble.
