Re: [Audyssey] Winboard?
Hi Nicole, Winboard is a version of Chess made for the Jaws screen reader program. As for the Jaws Hangman program you speak of I don't have any idea. The only Hangman game I play is the one produced by Jim Kitchen.. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Winboard?
From: "Nicole white" What is winboard? Hi Nicole. Winboard is an interface software that can host and manage several chess engines and that allows human user to use them to play chess. In its version 4.5.2 is also quite Jaws friendly. It comunicates with WB protocol, which is just one of the two available major chess protocols out there, the second one is called UCI. HTH. Re: [Audyssey] Winboard question
The problem I have with Winboard is that you are held to the same time restrictions as the computer. In order to set the computer opponent at the easiest difficulty, you have to set it to take the least amount of time per move, and then you lose when you reach that time limit. I find that "KChess Elite", from www.arkangles.com is a much more flexible, and powerful, chess program. I hope I spelled the site correctly? --- Laughter is the best medicine. Re: [Audyssey] Winboard for Window-Eyes?
Hi Zack, Quote What I was wondering is if anybody on here might be able to program Winboard to work with Window-Eyes in the same way it does Jaws. End quote I certainly could. Window Eyes does have an API in which applications can send information directly to Window Eyes for speaking out text such as moves, what piece on the board you are looking at, etc. However, that isn't so good for universal accessibility though. Personally, if a developer was going to work on a new winboard program he/she should probably use Sapi or use pre-recorded speech as to open the accessibility to everyone and not just to one or two screen readers. I understand how helpful the Jaws and Window Eyes APIs are, but if someone is running Hal, NVDA, etc that isn't going to help them any. Re: [Audyssey] winboard for jfw and online chess
Hello, As far as i know the version which jfw works with supports online play, but it is impossible to check that radiobutton, probably it is a bug. In the latest version of winboard the "bug" is fixed, and it is possible to play, but it doesn't work with jfw. The winboard for jfw was a modified winboard executable, which used the JfwApi interface. As far as i know, there is no update for Winboard for JFW, which would include the latest winboard executable. So, though virtualy Winboard for jfw supports online play, it is not possible to play due to a radiobutton. It is possible that i am not right, and if it is the case, please correct me (maybe somebody found out a trick to check the radiobutton in the game selection dialog).
