Hmm, not sure what is up with that.
Some people have had trouble with running it on vista, but I haven't heard
of this particular problem.
One thing the vista users had to do was install direct x 9c on top of
direct x 10 for the game to work, no idea why, but that fixed it for them.
Let me know if you have any luck.

As I understand it, Dx 10 has different components that handle playing
sounds and multiplayer game. You know, the brand new Microsoft rubbish. :-)
At least this is what I was told. The old components aren't supported any
longer for reasons that perhaps even Bill Gates doesn't know.

Re: [Audyssey] rail racer general problem

2007-06-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Che,
You might want to read my article I wrote for issue 49 or 50 in the
Audyssey mag regarding accessible games and Vista.
Bottom line the managed libs for DirectX 10 are incompatible with
DirectX 9.0C. As a result you have to do a side-by-side install of
DirectX 9.0C and DirectX 10 which Vista does allow for compatibility
reasons.
Also .Net framework 3.0 which ships with Vista isn't as backward
compatible as 2.0 was so you also have to install .Net framework 2.0 to
Vistaas well.
As longa the aboveis followed in the proper order of installing .Net
Framework 2 and then DirectX 9.0C in that order prier to installing RR
and Montezuma's Revenge Vista users should be good to go. By he way are
you still using .Net Framework 1.1? If so I highly suggest updating RR
to .Net Framework 2.
Montezuma's Revenge encountered the exact same issues Rail Racer did,
but fortunately since I had a Vista system on hand I was able to test
and discover what was needed to get Monty, Rail Racer, and other games
ready for Vista.
Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] rail racer general problem

2007-06-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Allen,
Your Vista issue doesn't appear to be related to Rail Racer, but
something related to confirming adman approval. You might want to arrow
to the RR setup file, and press the context key which is right next to
your right control key. In that menu you will see an option like install
as administrator. That should allow you to install without having to
mess with the admen pop up.
Failing that you can go in to configure and turn off Vista's security
restrictions for administrator until you finish the RR install, and can
restart those services.
Cheers.

Hi,
Just wanted to make a miner correction on my previous post. The option
in the context menu is run as administrator, and not install as
administrator.
Happy gaming.

Re: [Audyssey] rail racer general problem

2007-06-16 Thread Che
  ah, thanks for the info.
I've got all but 2 of the vista systems working, though nothing was
installed in any particular order.
As for using the 2.0 framework, it is too late in the development cycle to
jump through those hoops, especially with the game working well on 99
percent of the systems running the demo.
Anyhow, we should probably discuss this off list if you want, Im sure most
of the gamers aren't into this programming tech stuff.
  Later,
  Che
