Re: [Audyssey] General horse racing game design

2013-05-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Cara,

Yes, I think having two different modes of play such as a steeple
chase and standard racing mode would be good. Steeple chases would be
more challenging with hurdles to jump while the aim of the standard
racing mode would be to try and maneuver ahead of the pack and
maintain that lead. Figuring out how to do things like this is what
makes programming fun. :D

Cheers!

HI Thomas, so are you thinking of something like a SteepleChase or National

As you know, in the triple crown, there are no hurtles just straight up
 racing. :)

I'd probably go for a couple of modes. perhaps a SteepleChase mode and
 standard racing mode.

In the standard racing mode you would need to maneuver through other horses
to get a better position and maintain it. Not quite sure how the gameplay
would work just yet but that's the fun of it! :)

Re: [Audyssey] General horse racing game design

2013-05-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Cara,

Well, when I played the Lighttech horse racing game a few years back I
didn't' think it was all that great. There were a number of things I
didn't like about it.

For example, it didn't really stick to true real world horse racing.
There were a number of extra obstacles like cactus plants to jump,
rivers to swim across, and cliffs you could fall off of. The game was
OK, but I would have preferred a more straight up horse racing game
without the weird additions.

The other thing I distinctly remember not liking about the design is
you had to press space to start a move. Your horse would run a random
amount of spaces, you'd hit space again and another horse would run,
and so on. It took forever to complete a race because it wasn't all
done in real time.

Now, I think a good accessible horse racing game should work like the
mainstream horse racing games I had back in the 95/98 days. In those
games you would pick a horse, and after the trumpets sounded you would
use your up arrow key to run forward and your left and right keys to
steer around curves and other horses. The spacebar would have your
horse vault or jump over hurtles on the track. Meanwhile there was
usually a human commentator announcing the play by play action just
like at a real track. We haven't really seen a horse racing game like
that yet, and it should be easy to do on an iPhone or PC.

Cheers!

Hi kara.
the gameplay was ok, it never got off v1.
you walked along taking turns, you would hear a barrior and have to
jump it else you would crash and loose time.
you had cliffs which if you fell you died and rivers you could swim
over but I never got that sorted.

it was ok but I never really got into it I'd like a real one though.

Re: [Audyssey] The Horse Racing Game

2007-01-12 Thread Rob
Hello Cara,
A big thanks for the bug report.
It was our first project, and since we're more experienced than we were,
sometimes when we (or other people, like you) finds a bug, it is curious why we
did this, and
that.
I'll see what i can do to fix it.
THRG uses: a speech output (jaws, microsoft's speech api, or window eyes),
directX 8 (or higher), ComAudio (which is installed by the game if you don't
have it
installed before) and direct show (which can cause troubles if you have
problems with your mp3 directshow filter).
From these, you said you have DX installed, so that part is ok. ComAudio (if
light locater works) is also ok, however you never know, it is not really
stable. If you're
using sapi, the speech part must be ok, but i don't think so you have troubles
with it, since Audio Quake tests it every day *big smile*
If you've played with judgment day, your mp3 directshow filter is right as
well. Right now, it seems the requirements for the game are filled, however
these are only my
guesses, since i do not know your systtem, and if it works on one computer,
nothing ensures that it will work on another (usually it does).
If it seems everything is ok, please contact me off-list, and i'll send you a
copy which maybe can help us to debug it. (debug edition, smile)
Happy gaming,
Rob

Hello to Rob from Light Tech

I have it installed and have all of the necessary components installed

chokes like you wouldn't believe when I bring it up. The window seems to
continue to try to open and then close again, so it basically keeps coming
up and going down repeatedly very quickly, many times a second. It seems
as if it's having trouble initializing something but that's just a guess...

Anyway, I shut the program down via the task manager and it shuts down
without incident but I thought I'd let you know.

I can run Light Cars and will download Light Locator to see how that one
goes as well...

I have the latest Direct X and .net framework 2.0 and am running win XP...

Anyway, just thought you should know...

Sorry, its not the left and right arrows but the left and right control
keys used for swimming, but that doesn't work either. I never got the no

times when my opponent win, the game ended there and it asked me if I

Yes this helps thanks. So if I try sappi with the game it should work
because jaws does its own processing of the arrow keys, so jaws doesn't
allow the left and right arrow keys to be used in the game so if I use
sappi the arrows should work fine, right?

 Hi all

Recently I downloaded the most recent version of the horse racing game.
I must say, they have definitely fixed some bugs. But I battle to swim
across the river. I don't get it right. When my horse splash I have
tried holding down either the right or left arrow. I also tried tapping
either the right or left arrow. I also tried tapping both the right and
left arrow after I heard the splash in other words, I tapped, left right
left right all the time but nothing gets my horse swimming.

Is there any one that managed to get his horse to swim and survive?

Guys, I'm really hopeless at this stage with the horse racing game. I
now have, according to my knowledge, the newest version of windows, xp
service pack 2. And I still find a bug in the game. Let me explain this
 to you step by step:

With the m key jaws says my position is 97, so its very near to the
 ending point all right?

When my horse is galloping I hear the trumpet sound and the commentator
announces my horse as the winner.

 I hear no applause.

I waited and waited and waited for the game to say: press y for another
match etc. but I heard nothing.

When I pressed space my horse galloped.

Now, my position is staying on 100 and I gallop hundreds of times
without any obstacles although my opponent still gets obstacles.

After a long time of only galloping I hear the trumpet sound again and
this time my opponent is announced and I hear the applause and the
 prompt.

 Why is this happening?

Isn't the game always suppose to end or take me to the bonus round if
the trumpet plays for the first time and the winner is announced?

I'm really confused and I did installed the patch!
