[Ganglia-general] gmetad not picking up data?

2012-12-04 Thread David Barr
Good Morning!

I'm not sure quite how to describe this, so ask me if I miss details.

I have gmond and gmetad 3.2.0 and ganglia-web 3.1.7. I'm monitoring several
clusters of hosts running gmond 3.1.7 or 3.2.0.

The hosts running 3.1.7 appear in the web page. Some hosts running 3.2.0 appear
in the web page. Others do not. (Due to silly dependency writing with other
packages, I can't upgrade the 3.1.7 hosts.)

Further investigation of /var/lib/ganglia/rrds/ shows now directories created,
much less populated with hosts/data.

I'm looking at the distinctions between the /etc/ganglia/gmond.conf files for
those that 3.2.0 hosts that appear in the web page and those that do not.
However, so far, I've hit dead ends. The big one that jumped out was that the
successful 3.2.0 hosts had this:

udp_send_channel {
  host = ...
  port = ...
}

where the faililng hosts also had bind_hostname = yes and ttl = 1. However,
removing those settings from udp_send_channel doesn't change behavior.

While I continue looking, am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!
David

No, replies Dr. Heisenberg, but I know where I am.

The problem turned out to be that udp_recv_channel was binding to the multicast
address. So, it wouldn't pick up data from direct-connect hosts.

Thanks!

[Ganglia-general] Deleting nodes from the cluster database...

2011-11-14 Thread David Barr
Good Morning,

I have several Ganglia clusters in a grid. For one cluster, several nodes have
been repurposed away. I'd like to drop those nodes from the database, so I
don't get emails about down systems that aren't, really.

I had a look at the documentation[1], but I don't see anything about a UI
interface to do something like this, and I don't see anything that talks about
direct access to the database. Am I looking in the wrong places?

Thanks!
David

[Ganglia-general] unspecified Grid.

2011-08-17 Thread David Barr
Good Morning!

Wiki and archive searches aren't quite getting what I'm looking for. The
gmetad.conf tells me the difference between cluster and grid, based on from
what type of daemon I'm getting statistics. However, it doesn't say anything
about naming the ~local~ grid.

- I have 70 hosts in 6 irregularly sized clusters. The gmond on each host
points to the lead gmond for its particular cluster.
- A single infrastructure host runs gmetad to gather statistics. gmetad.conf
has data_source entries for each cluster.

Looking at the ganglia web PHP/RRD, I can see each cluster in the
http://hostname/ganglia/ overall page. At the top of the page is the
unspecified Grid that is the sum of the hosts and CPUs in those clusters. How
do I change unspecified? Do I have to fake a data_source to localhost?

Thanks!
David
