FSU linebacker Dekoda Watson, who tied Rolle for team-high honors with seven
tackles, shares his coach's optimism. He was saying all the right things, that
FSU played Florida much better this year than last year.
Even his praise for the Gators was tainted. He said Georgia Tech had a more
complicated offense and declined to say Florida was the best team the Seminoles
had faced.
"We may have gotten intimidated by Florida," Watson said. "I wish that wasn't

Gators still too much for the Seminoles
Column by Doug Blackburn
DEMOCRAT ASSISTANT SPORTS EDITOR
It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to know that Florida State is not in the
same league as Florida.

Not this year. And not last year, or the two years before that.

But when a Rhodes Scholar tries to explain what happened on the last
Saturday in November, when Florida ignored a steady rain and dominated FSU
45-15, you hope to learn a little something.

"We were soundly beaten. We were just outplayed today," safety Myron Rolle
said. "Our game plan was very good.

"You can know what's going to happen, but if you don't make tackles and you
miss assignments you're going to get beat. It got out of hand. I guess there's
no way to stop them."

It's that simple, according to FSU's decorated scholar-athlete.

If there's a way to stop the Gators, FSU doesn't know what it is. Not with
Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow directing their attack.

Saturday's 45-15 loss at Doak Campbell Stadium was eerily similar to last
year's 45-12 beat-down in Gainesville.

There are differences, of course.

Florida is 11-1 and one win away from playing for its second national
championship in three years.

This year's edition of UF is considerably better than last year's. For the
past six weeks, the Gators have been the best team in the land.

Florida State is also much better, even if Saturday's one-sided affair
didn't show it. After back-to-back 7-6 seasons, the Seminoles are 8-4 going
into a bowl game and tied for first place in their division of the ACC.

Nine wins for 2008 is a very distinct probability.

This is a football program turning the corner. That it's happening in
increments rather than quantum leaps may frustrate the FSU faithful, but don't
lose sight of the big picture.

The Seminoles were ranked after Thanksgiving. That hasn't been the case in
recent years.

If that doesn't make this morning's brunch taste any better, realizing the
chasm still separating FSU and Florida, imagine how perplexed Bobby Bowden is.

"That game surprised me because I didn't think they would beat us like that
here," FSU's head coach said. "The last time we had a beating like that was
last year against them. I thought we would make it closer."

The last time the Seminoles' legendary coach beat-arch rival Florida was
2003, when Ron Zook roamed the Gator sidelines.

"We'll come back," Bowden declared. "All you have to do is study history.
We'll ebb and flow again.

"They're having their day right now, but I believe Florida State will be
back."

Then the 79-year-old coach let slip a candid observation, one that may get
lost among all the second-day analysis of FSU's fourth loss of the season.

He was still talking about Florida State's revival: "Somebody'll see it. It
might happen when I'm here — but I doubt it. I don't know."

Bowden was in no mood to dwell on his future, not when the immediate past
was so painful.

FSU linebacker Dekoda Watson, who tied Rolle for team-high honors with
seven tackles, shares his coach's optimism. He was saying all the right things,
that FSU played Florida much better this year than last year.

Even his praise for the Gators was tainted. He said Georgia Tech had a more
complicated offense and declined to say Florida was the best team the Seminoles
had faced.

"We may have gotten intimidated by Florida," Watson said. "I wish that
wasn't the case.

"Tim Tebow's a great athlete, but he puts his pants on the same as us."

Yes, but he has that cape.

The Seminoles' quest for their own superhero continues.

Sorry, but that chick is nasty looking. No one should be flouncing around in
public in her lumpy bra and underwear, especially with mustard and ketchup
smeared all over her face and body. Even my husband, who is usually quite
willing to ogle girls in skimpy clothing, thought that was cheap looking and
nasty. He always has a sore neck after we go to Gainesville for games so maybe
he just didn't like the colors that nasty FSU skank was wearing. ;-)

DOING IT ALL
For his day-into-night's work, Tebow carried the football 16 times Saturday for 80 net yards and that ramrod touchdown, and despite the elements he completed 12 of 21 passes for 185 more yards and three more scores. His 265 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in less than 3 ½ quarters qualified as -- if there can be such a thing -- typically extraordinary. (You have reached a sweet spot in sports when your excellence is assumed.)
Oh yeah, Tebow also recovered teammate Emmanuel Moody's fumble, threw a hellacious block for Harvin and made the tackle after teammate Jeffery Demps' lost fumble. Tebow did everything Saturday except stop the rain, play the clarinet at halftime and write a headline for this column
===

In Saturday's Soak at Doak, for instance, a waterlogged 45-15 Florida clobbering of Florida State, Tebow contributed the following to his already comprehensive career, which includes the first Heisman collected by a sophomore:
·  One smothering block on an FSU free safety to spring Percy Harvin around the corner for Florida's first touchdown.
·  One tackle of an FSU defensive end, who recovered a fumble by Gator running back Jeffery Demps and went 2 yards backwards after coming in contact with Tebow.
·  One fumble recovery, when teammate Emmanuel Moody coughed up the ball.
·  Oh, and here's one that won't show up anywhere. One time drawing double-coverage from the FSU secondary on a flea-flicker play that was designed for wide receiver Louis Murphy to hit Tebow for a touchdown pass.

[This is from a Pat Dooley article...]

"What their fans did when Percy got hurt is one of the first times I've ever
seen almost a whole stadium cheer," Tebow said.

"I think that shows not very good sportsmanship. That kind of irritated me. I
told the coaches just to get me the ball because I want to hit someone
extremely hard the next play. I was a little shocked. It's a rivalry, but we're
still playing a game."

On the second play after Harvin's injury, Tebow barreled into the end zone
from four yards out carrying FSU's biggest defenders with him, moving the pile
with great determination.

Memo to opposing teams: Never make Tebow angry.

  wow...wow...wow!!! that's 100% unsportsmanship like conduct...but what the
hell else can you expect from those idiots!!!

Yeah, but Lou countered with some positive remarks including the possibility
of bringing his dad with him. I have absolutely no opinion on this one.
We've seen how successful college coaches can bomb in the NFL, and then
return to college and explode (i.e. Saban et al).

Personally, I want to keep Fulmer! ;-)

But wasn't he only with USC-west a few years?

Don't know . . . was recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator at
University of Southern California in '05 and '06.

He is just 33 years old. He could turn out to be a Pete Carroll type, and
very successful at the collegiate level. Tennessee must see something in him
they like. Wonder what it is.

Sources: Tennessee could announce deal with Kiffin on Monday

  By Chris Low

  Updated: November 28, 2008, 6:11 PM ET
Tennessee has reached an agreement with former Oakland Raiders coach Lane
Kiffin to take over as the Volunteers' next coach, with an announcement
planned for Monday, barring any snags, according to multiple sources.

Kiffin, 33, will be making his college head coaching debut in succeeding
Phillip Fulmer, who will coach his last game for the Vols on Saturday.
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton denied reports on Wednesday that
Kiffin had been offered a contract. But Kiffin has been at the forefront of
the Vols' search for some time. Part of the holdup is that Tennessee didn't
want to do anything officially this week that would take away from Fulmer's
final game Saturday against Kentucky. Fulmer was fired by Hamilton on Nov. 2
and allowed to finish out the season. He's been at Tennessee as a player,
assistant coach and head coach for 35 years. The university has dubbed
Saturday's game "Phillip Fulmer Appreciation Day" at Neyland Stadium in
celebration of his 17-year tenure.

Kiffin was 5-15 in a year and a half with the Oakland Raiders before being
fired earlier this season by team owner Al Davis.

Kiffin, the youngest head coach in NFL history when he was hired by the
Raiders, earned $2 million per year in Oa

2008-11-30 Thread Oliver Barry
I think what we were watching was the speed that the Florida teams
recruit on a yearly basis.

They are still a crappy offense, but they're much faster than any of the
offenses we saw previously, except for Miami.

So, when they actually do get through the hole they go a lot faster and
further.

Alabama won't be doing that. Their offensive line can open a lot of
holes, but they don't have anyone who can get through them like that.

Plus, according to the Bobby Bowden Show, their kickoff returner is leading

fun watching the BBS reel of game highlights. Most of the highlights were UF

they match up pretty well (Os v Ds, etc). I think I agree, except. I think
I give Florida the edge in Special teams.

I think Harvin (probably) being out for the game. doesn't help. but we have
finally started to use the entire arsenal. so Im not "too" concerned there.

I do not think this will be a one sided affair. However, I said that for
the last several games to prepare myself in case well. just in case. lol I
think it will probably be pretty close unless one team can somehow shut the
other Offense down. I don't see that happening though.

You stir on that while I go start the valium now. J

I watched Bama last week and for all the hype I've heard about Wilson, I
thought he threw the ball very seldom. They seem to be the same Bama of old -
smash mouth football running up the middle. I think if we take the run away
from them, they fold.

Beating Auburn 36-0 is the equivalent of beating Maryland. Of course Alabama
looked tough against them.
They may be the best team we'll face this year. But, we have the people to

Their Offensive line is pretty solid. Charlie will have a huge undertaking to
contend with. BUT I have the utmost faith. Id love to see some momentum
changing plays on Special Teams and Defense. We have to be more aggressive
then ever before on defense. We have to shake up Wilson and make him throw the
ball...BUT we have to slow the running game down and with an impressive O Line,
that will be hard to do...we have to play tight and blitz from all over.

2008-11-30 Thread Bill Hood aka mrgatorman
Ironically the ACC had kids dressed up in ACC uniforms and talking about
good sportsmanship. My 11 yr old daughter asked why there were no kids
dressed in Gator jerseys.. I told her, you only have to address problems
with problem children. You don't tell you daughter to sit to pee, she just
does it. You don't tell a Gator to be classy.they just are, but
unfortunately you have to tell some OTHER teams to be classy, because they
need the reminder. So as im not shocked they did that, im glad we beat the
crap out of them and Ill proudly remind them of it all year long.

[This is from a Pat Dooley article...]
"What their fans did when Percy got hurt is one of the first times I've ever
seen almost a whole stadium cheer," Tebow said.
"I think that shows not very good sportsmanship. That kind of irritated me.
I told the coaches just to get me the ball because I want to hit someone
extremely hard the next play. I was a little shocked. It's a rivalry, but
we're still playing a game."
On the second play after Harvin's injury, Tebow barreled into the end zone
from four yards out carrying FSU's biggest defenders with him, moving the
pile with great determination.
Memo to opposing teams: Never make Tebow angry.
wow...wow...wow!!! that's 100% unsportsmanship like conduct...but what the
hell else can you expect from those idiots!!!
