[gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Today's Gatornews from Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post

2009-01-10 Thread Gatornet Admin
I'm still wondering why we haven't heard of any disciplinary action against Nic
Harris for pulling on Harvin's feet on national TV. I mean, he jerked them so
hard that Harvin's body was physically moved several inches while lying on the
ground. That was not only poor sportsmanship, but OU's athletic department
should apologize for it.

BTW, don't worry, Slugger. You HAVE been unsubscribed from GatorTalk. I'm only
copying you on this email because I feel the need to express my frustration to
someone who believes the Sooners are a class act. In my book, OU was way up
there until Thursday night. Now, they are no different than the thugs that play
for FSU or Miami. There were MANY cheap shots that simply should not have
happened.

Florida's Harvin doesn't let injury stop him in BCS title game
  BY JEFF DARLINGTON

Until aggravating the high left ankle sprain on a 12-yard gain in the fourth
quarter, which required on-field medical attention, Harvin hadn't provided a
single indication Thursday night that his ankle was ever bothering him at all.

After the game, Harvin said he felt Oklahoma's players, specifically on that
play, were trying to go after the ankle.

''They tried to hurt me, but they couldn't,'' Harvin said.

The thing I hate about the whole bowl season is their informing us of the
differences from the pro game. Things like: That's a catch, unlike the NFL,
college players only have to get one foot down. It's as if the only people
who watch bowl games are NFL fans who have nothing better to do.

I don't know about you, but I just don't care how they do it in the NFL!

Really? You thought they were good?

One of the things that hate about the BCS is that FOX televises the games
and those are the only college games they do all year. Their in-studio team
is their NFL gameday team. I think they try to produce it like an NFL game,
like having a 4 minute commercial break for every timeout, review,
possession change, etc. and they show a complete ignorance of what actually
 has happened all year.

Everytime someone went down with cramps last night, the announcer
immediately started talking about that looks like a bad knee problem.
They never questioned any officiating call (or non-call) and very rarely
showed a replay of anything meaningful from an angle that would be useful.
And don't get me started on that stupid split screen view - I don't need to
see the OU coaches slapping their butts or doing a dance like a 1st grader
that needs to go potty to signal a play in.

 Ugh.

 Give me Gary Danielson anyday.

Can't wait until ESPN takes over in 2 years, at least they know the game.

This makes his effort more impressive and the actions of that mindless

[gatortalk] Game report?

2009-01-10 Thread Oliver Barry
Can we get a Gatortalk game report from someone who was there?
One question: Was there a fight at the coin toss? My brother says one of the
Okies insulted Louis Murphy and he had to be restrained by team mates.
Another question: Who had the best band? In the 30 or so seconds we saw them
on tv ours looked clearly superior.
Nic Harris is the player Tebow got the unsportsmanlike penalty on. He's also
the same guy who did the Darnell Docket on Percy.

Thanks,
Oliver

Percy Harvin's injury was not a high ankle sprain as reported (or at
least not just one). It was actually a hairline fracture. Percy disclosed
that this morning in Miami.

This makes his effort more impressive and the actions of that mindless
defender who grabbed his ankle after the play more grievous.

I had to watch the game in a hotel in Virginia and thankfully the clerk
avoided putting anyone on either side of me. My wife said she was afraid my
yelling and cheering might bring an unwelcome call from the front desk. God is
good!

I am heading home and will be back on Saturday evening. This has been
the longest vacation I have taken since my parents drove to California and back
during the LBJ administration.

I have attached three pictures of my wife and I doing the wedding for my
daughter.

  Go Gators!

I thought the OU band was vastly superior from what I saw on TV. I thought
our band with what looked like some spastic movements (I think they might
have been trying to dance), was rather amateurish. I do like the new
uniforms though.

Can we get a Gatortalk game report from someone who was there?

One question: Was there a fight at the coin toss? My brother says one of
the Okies insulted Louis Murphy and he had to be restrained by team mates.

Another question: Who had the best band? In the 30 or so seconds we saw
them on tv ours looked clearly superior.

Nic Harris is the player Tebow got the unsportsmanlike penalty on. He's
also the same guy who did the Darnell Docket on Percy.

Thanks,

Oliver

Nah, they were too vanilla for a game of this magnitude. They knew they were
going to have some TV time, so they needed to relax and have fun like our band
did. Save the straight faces and fancy marching for the parades. ;-)

I agree there looked like there was some unpleasant exchange at the coin toss.
Just part of the game, IMO.

I thought our band looked better, too... and looked like they were having more
fun.

Nic Harris should be publicly chastised for what he did. I bet ya it's no
coincidence that Tebow got in his face... it probably had something to do with
his Docketting of Harvin. What a jackass.

Psssh... I love it when our band dances! If you haven't seen any of the clips
on Youtube, go search for UF Drum Major Dance or something like that. That
dude is amazing... and very entertaining. ;-)
