Forget Sesame Street, mom and dad. Teach your children how to count with
 the Tim Tebow Counting Game.

You got that right, folks. The Tim Tebow Counting Game is arithmetic's
answer to Hooked on Phonics. Your little Florida Gator-to-be will be
counting to 100 in no time flat by using this product.

 OK,

OK, so there's no official product called the Tim Tebow Counting Game.

But you can certainly make one based off this YouTube video I stumbled

across this morning. It features Tim Tebow highlights from last year's

SEC Championship Game, when the Virgin Tebow took apart the Alabama

Crimson Tide and set the stage for the Gators' second BCS championship.

Although it's not expressed by the posters of this video, I

think they're trying to make you count how many times Tebow's name was

 said during the CBS broadcast.
I counted 102 Tebow reference and

another YouTube commenter counted 104, so the Tim Tebow Counting Game

may not be a great way to teach your children accurate addition.
Regardless, it's still a fun way to pass the time. How many Tebows do you
 count?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1JXxYS6YWAfeature=player_embedded

This reminded me that there once was a Gator billboard on I-75. It was
south of Ocala on the west side (you'd see it northbound).
Maybe it was in 97 in celebration of the national championship? Perhaps
some of you remember it.

Could Lane Kiffin's new billboard in south Florida look like this?

  By Robbie Andreu
  Gainesville SUN Staff writer

  Published: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 6:28 p.m.
  Last Modified: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 6:28 p.m.

New Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin invaded Florida last February
and stole a high-profile recruit from the Gators when he talked Pahokee wide
receiver Nu’Keese Richardson out of his UF commitment to sign with the Vols.

That success has compelled Kiffin to try and establish more of a
Tennessee presence in the talent-rich state of Florida.

At last week’s SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala., Kiffin said a Tennessee
billboard will be going up in south Florida in the next few weeks.

“There will be a billboard going up there in the next month that I think
you’ll be excited to see, that will give you something to write about that will
help us, too,” Kiffin said.

Kiffin’s comment has spawned a great deal of speculation as to what the
billboard will say.

Will it be promoting UT football?

Or will it possibly be taking shots at Urban Meyer and Florida?

Kiffin is being secretive about it.

“I’m not going to give you any more than that,” he said last week. “Got
to give you something to look forward to.”

Tennessee isn’t the only SEC football program putting up billboards.
Auburn is doing the same in Alabama to promote a new era under new coach Gene
Chizik.

As for Florida, there are no plans to put up any billboards. Winning two
national championships in the past three years has given the Gators plenty of
exposure.

Things are spiraling out of control. I think I have become lost in a world of
electronic madness.

One of my sons informed me this week that my cell phone has become obsolete
and I must head down to the Cell Phone store and get a phone that is
contemporary with the time.

I pointed out that the fancy Razor/Slim line phone with camera built in that
he made me trade my perfectly good flip-top Motorola cell phone for two years
ago still works perfectly fine.. Well, except for the camera thing. Never could
figure that out.. Even the few times I actually did take pictures I couldn’t
figure what to do with them and gave up.

That is except when I would push the wrong button and take a video of the
ceiling or my feet.

Seems the issue is that I am unable to text with the tiny little 3 character
buttons. Hi, son, would come out looking like, Gh Qmo. My grandkids
have even spoken to my wife about Poppa’s crazy text messages. Give me a
break. Whatever happened to actually talking on a phone? Isn’t that what they
were invented for?

They want me to get one of those phones that you can turn upside down and
sideways and has a typewriter keyboard with keys about one-eighth the size of
my pinky finger.

One of my four sons is a realtor whose real occupation is fly fishing. Way
to go, son.

Or in my text language, Xbz um Io, rmo.

We were floating the Yakima River in his guide quality drift boat south of
Ellensburg , Washington . We were miles from anything remotely resembling
civilization. Rock canyon walls were on either side of us. Bear with me as I
try to explain this strange thing.

His Blackberry rang. It was blue and I asked him why it wasn’t called a
Blueberry. He shook his head with that “dealing with an elder” despair look I
get a lot these days. It was another realtor who called to say that the sellers
he represented had agreed to my son’s client’s changes and he had the signed
documents in hand.

My son told him to FAX the papers to his office and he would get them signed
and Faxed back, to close the deal that morning. A minute later the phone rang
and he hit a few buttons and looked over the FAX, now on theYakima River with
us.

He then called his clients and told them he was Faxing the papers to them to
sign and asked them to FAX them back to his office. While he was waiting, he
hooked into a fat rainbow and was just releasing this 22 inch beauty as his
phone rang again with the signed FAX from his clients.

He called the other realtor and told him he was sending the signed papers
back by FAX. The deal was closed. He smiled and just said, You are a little
behind the times, Dad. I guess I am.

I thought about the sixty million dollar a year business I ran with 1800
employees, all without a Blackberry that played music, took videos, pictures
and communicated with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their
spouse, 13 grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the
modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only
140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree,
Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something
that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the
texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything
except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to
live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost
every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a
box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it’s red] phone I am supposed to
use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Nobles
talking to my wife as everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. Seems
I have to take my hearing aid out to use it and got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside was
the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10
minutes, she would sarcastically say, Re-calc-ul-ating You would think that
she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go
with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then when
I would make a right turn instead, it was not good.

Things are spiraling out of control. I think I have become lost in a world
of electronic madness.

One of my sons informed me this week that my cell phone has become obsolete
and I must head down to the Cell Phone store and get a phone that is
contemporary with the time.

I pointed out that the fancy Razor/Slim line phone with camera built in that
he made me trade my perfectly good flip-top Motorola cell phone for two
years ago still works perfectly fine.. Well, except for the camera thing.
Never could figure that out.. Even the few times I actually did take
pictures I couldn't figure what to do with them and gave up.

That is except when I would push the wrong button and take a video of the
ceiling or my feet.

Seems the issue is that I am unable to text with the tiny little 3 character
buttons. Hi, son, would come out looking like, Gh Qmo. My grandkids
have even spoken to my wife about Poppa's crazy text messages. Give me a
break. Whatever happened to actually talking on a phone? Isn't that what
they were invented for?

They want me to get one of those phones that you can turn upside down and
sideways and has a typewriter keyboard with keys about one-eighth the size
of my pinky finger.

It was blue and I asked him why it wasn't called a
Blueberry. He shook his head with that dealing with an elder despair look
I get a lot these days. It was another realtor who called to say that the
sellers he represented had agreed to my son's client's changes and he had
the signed documents in hand.

My son told him to FAX the papers to his office and he would get them signed
and Faxed back, to close the deal that morning. A minute later the phone
rang and he hit a few buttons and looked over the FAX, now on theYakima
River with us.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their
spouse, 13 grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the
modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with
only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree,
Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and
something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program
within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything
except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to
live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost

On Friday, Aug. 7, returning players will again practice from 6:10 a.m. until 8 a.m., while freshmen will take the field from 4:35 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Practice then moves to the UVS Fields, and will no longer be open to the public and the media due to space constraints.
Fans are reminded that no video cameras are allowed at UF practices.

I couldn't get individual Florida game tickets from UF, so took another

good seats for the game. What a country!

Spurrier jazzed about Gamecock changes

By PETE IACOBELLI AP Sports Writer

Published: Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.
Last Modified: Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.

Steve Spurrier has rarely had an offseason of change at South Carolina like
this one: Several new assistants, fewer off-field problems and a rising star
quarterback who has spent more time studying plays than working off a
suspension.

Right now, we all like each other, Spurrier said Thursday. That's what
you got to have, everybody's got to be on the same team.

Spurrier acknowledged it wasn't always that way his first four seasons with
the Gamecocks. Things started fast in 2005 with a record-setting
five-consecutive Southeastern Conference wins, including landmark victories
over Tennessee and Spurrier's former school Florida. South Carolina, though,
has struggled to finish off promising starts, particularly the last two
seasons.

In 2007 and 2008, the Gamecocks were 11-6 in August, September and October,
but 2-6 once November arrived.

Spurrier finally realized a season ago after South Carolina clunked to the
end with three straight defeats that things had to change. There are five
new assistants, including offensive line coach Eric Wolford who came from
Illinois to replace John Hunt, long a Spurrier favorite who been with him at
Florida, the Washington Redskins and the Gamecocks.

Spurrier also changed his strength and condition program, bringing in Craig
Fitzgerald when Mark Smith left for a short stay at Tennessee with coach
Lane Kiffin.

As a group, we've just not got it done, Spurrier said. Since I'm
responsible for the group, we're trying a new direction.

There's no doubt in Spurrier's mind the new assistants have sparked a
freshened attitude among the players, who he says have shown the best
offseason commitment since he took over. That's also led to a significant
drop in off-the-field issues for the Gamecocks this summer, Spurrier said.

Well, when players do what they're expected to do, you don't have many off
the field situations, the coach said.

One area where Spurrier expects that to show the strongest is with starting
quarterback Stephen Garcia.

The sophomore was considered one of Spurrier's best-ever QB prospects when
he arrived on campus in January 2007. However, two arrests led to a
suspension before Garcia's first spring practice and he spent a fairly
unproductive season as a scout-team redshirt.

Garcia figured to have a shot at the starting job last spring. Again,
though, a run in with campus authorities cost him practice time and got him
suspended through most of the summer.

Garcia was way behind when fall drills began and never found any consistency
over eight games. He was the SEC's freshman of the week when he came off the
bench to lead South Carolina to a 24-17 victory at Kentucky. However, given
the start in the Outback Bowl against Iowa, Garcia threw three interceptions
and looked awful in a 31-10 battering.

So Spurrier brought in former Florida passer G.A. Mangus as quarterback
coach, as much to mentor Garcia as to teach him the ball coach's complex
offense. So far, it's working.

Mangus says Garcia has been a willing sponge, readily soaking up as much
information as possible to bring to the field this fall.

The two talk each day, Mangus said, and Garcia understands the work he'd
have to put in if he wants to be great.

Spurrier hasn't let his starting quarterback talk to reporters yet, but on
Garcia's Twitter page earlier this month, he said, Offense is going to
surprise.

Spurrier, 64, says the attitude around Gamecock football has him juiced
about South Carolina finally breaking through to the SEC success they've
seldom

Key game: Oct. 31 vs. Georgia. Watch out. Georgia is really, really good,
better than last year good, and it has the potential to pull off the win in
the heated rivalry by using its great offensive line to slug the Gators in
the mouth. Florida can lose at LSU on October 10 and still accomplish its

Sign of the apocalypse?
Tennessee's Lane Kiffin will take his recruiting message to South Florida with an I-95 billboard

Coming soon to a highway near you: Lane Kiffin. Tennessee has purchased billboard space in South Florida and will put up an ad next week.
By BEN VOLIN Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
GAINESVILLE — Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin has a message that you'll see when you drive down Interstate-95 to Fort Lauderdale: It's Time.
Those two words are not just the catchphrase of John Ward, the former longtime Tennessee broadcaster.
"It's Time" is the new marketing slogan for Tennessee football as the Volunteers transition from former coach Phil Fulmer to Kiffin. And even though Knoxville is more than 800 miles away, Tennessee has bought space at I-95 and Oakland Park Boulevard for a billboard that will go up early next week and remain through Labor Day weekend.
"We wanted to make an effort to extend our brand beyond the Tennessee geography," said Chris Fuller, associate athletic director for sales and marketing. "We obviously recognize the value of Florida as it relates to growing and building our program. We just wanted to let people know we're here."
One of the goals of the 14- by 48-foot billboard - which includes photos of Kiffin and defensive back Eric Berry - will be to aid UT recruiting. Kiffin has made recruiting South Florida a priority since taking over the program in December, and was able to steal Pahokee's Nu'Keese Richardson away from the Florida Gators on national signing day.
"In Tennessee, as much as we love our state, we do not have a lot of great high school players there. Those are the facts," Kiffin said. "We have to create national attention immediately."
With that in mind, Tennessee is undergoing an aggressive marketing campaign to help reverse the team's image after last year's 5-7 record, though the marketing budget has remained constant at about $1 million, Fuller said. In addition to the billboards, the Vols are producing their own videos for a soon-to-be-released Tennessee football page on YouTube.
"It's really exciting. It gives us a chance to market Tennessee in a different way," spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter said. "We have gotten a lot of support from coach Kiffin to ramp it up even more than what we had planned on."
That means expanding the marketing base outside of the traditional markets such as Nashville and Chattanooga. The Vols also have bought "It's Time" billboards in Atlanta and Memphis.
Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, who has Miami roots, also has recognized the importance of recruiting in South Florida and bought billboard space on area highways a few years ago.
The Volunteers spent $25,000 on their billboard campaign, which also includes billboards in Tennessee promoting Berry for the Heisman Trophy. Fuller said the Florida board cost approximately one third of the total bill.
The Vols have 246 season-ticket holders from Florida and a healthy alumni base in South Florida, mostly retirees.
"I know that coach Kiffin isn't going to win any popularity contests in Florida," Fuller said. "But we've got a good presence of people coming up from Florida seven or eight times a year for games."
Of course, there's a good chance that a Kiffin billboard will invite graffiti-tagging from Florida and Miami fans.
"That would not surprise me in the least," Fuller said with a laugh.

Early wake-up call for UF practices

From Gainesville SUN staff reports

Published: Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10:01 p.m.
Last Modified: Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10:01 p.m.

The Florida football team will do more before 8 a.m. than most people do all
day. Well, at least next week, and, you get to watch. But just for the first
two days.

Florida's first two days of training camp -- Aug. 6 and Aug. 7 -- will be
open to the public at the UF football practice field.

The season's first practice will take place Thursday from 6:10 a.m. until 8
a.m. and will consist only of returning players. Freshmen will practice
later that day from 5:10 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, Aug. 7, returning players will again practice from 6:10 a.m.
until 8 a.m., while freshmen will take the field from 4:35 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Practice then moves to the UVS Fields, and will no longer be open to the
public and the media due to space constraints.

Fans are reminded that no video cameras are allowed at UF practices.

How is this Gator related you ask?
I used to listen to him on the way home from Gainesville to Jacksonville in the 70s. It was all I could find at 9 at night most times.
He was pretty exciting. Preached that wealth was a part of being Christian.
I just heard it last night on NPR. Just a memory of my time at UF. J

Reverend Ike has died.

How is this Gator related you ask?

I used to listen to him on the way home from Gainesville to Jacksonville in
the 70s. It was all I could find at 9 at night most times.

He was pretty exciting. Preached that wealth was a part of being Christian.

I just heard it last night on NPR. Just a memory of my time at UF. J

Wow! I'm looking forward to the new season under Coach Spurrier.

Seriously! Paula and I are now season ticket holders at South Carolina.50
yard liners.can you believe? They only cost me $450 a seat. Unbelievable
bargain!

I couldn't get individual Florida game tickets from UF, so took another
route. I'll be able to sell the single game tickets out of this package,

Things started fast in 2005 with a record-setting
five-consecutive Southeastern Conference wins, including landmark victories
over Tennessee and Spurrier's former school Florida.South Carolina, though,
has struggled to finish off promising starts, particularly the last two

Mangus

When I was there in the late 70’s/early 80’s, the crowd would encircle Jed and
Cindy. Then guys would ride in circles around them on their bicycle while the
crowd screamed “bikers!”. Of course, the majority of the spectators were openly
firing up doobies and incurring the wrath of Cindy…”you will burn in FIYAAAH”.
It was a real treat.

New group? Iowa? Gator club? What on earth are you talking about, Keith?

In all honesty, one of our group (Fran?) mentioned a friend in Iowa who wanted
to start a gator club, and we kicked it around a bit and offered suggestions.
Cheryl (below) must be the friend and she just joined Gatortalk.

Hi all ~

I'm looking to start a Gator club in Des Moines, IA. I've not been
able to locate one as of yet, so I don't know if one already exists or
not, and I'd like to find out if there's an interest here.

Feedback?
