Gators 2010 WR recruit to enroll early. for 2009

For Gators receiver prospect Stephen Alli, chalk it up to a case of, "why
put off something 'til tomorrow what you can do today?"

Alli, a 6-foot-5 receiver from Toronto who went to boarding school at
Proctor (N.H.) Academy, made

commitment in June to the Gators for the 2010 season.

But according to several recruiting Web sites, Alli won't be coming to
Gainesville in 2010. He'll be here soon - possibly as early as today - to
join the Gators for the 2009 season. 

Alli, who mulled an offer from Harvard before committing to the Gators, was
able to pull a surprise graduation from high school this summer and get
cleared by the NCAA.

"Florida wanted me to check into what it would take for me to graduate and
enroll early. They wanted to see if I would have everything in place to
enroll in January," Alli told the site GatorBait

counselors at Proctor and they've never had that happen before, and really,
weren't very enthusiastic about it happening now. It looked like I wasn't
going to be able to do it. They went in and checked through my records and
found out that I already have enough core course credits to be a graduate
and I've already been cleared by the NCAA. So about two weeks ago it came
down that I would be able to enroll at Florida this year."

Alli is raw, with just two years of football experience. He most certainly
will red-shirt for 2009, and likely will pick up one of the stray
scholarships that are usually awarded to senior special teams guys like
Butch Rowley. Alli's decision frees up a scholarship for the class of 2010,
which had already grown to 17, including Alli. 

Alli said the Gators coaching staff did not pressure him to come to UF a
year early.

"Coach (Billy) Gonzales left the decision up to me, but he supported me
coming in early," Alli told GatorBait. "Reporting a year early is a great
opportunity for me to learn the offense, but I don't know how much I'll be
able to do this year."

Alli becomes the 17th recruit for the Class of 2009, and is the second
receiver in the class, along with Andre Debose.
