Georgia QB Gray 'weighing options' for career

By CHARLES ODUM Sports Writer
Georgia's depth at quarterback, already thin, could soon take another hit.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton confirmed on Monday night that Logan Gray, the
only scholarship player behind No. 1 quarterback Aaron Murray, met with coach
Mark Richt to discuss his future with the team.
Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer from
Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is weighing
options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in an e-mail.
Gray, a junior, met with Richt early Monday.
Murray, a freshman, ended spring practice as the No. 1 quarterback after Richt
kicked Zach Mettenberger off the team for violating team rules. Richt
previously suspended Mettenberger for one game after Mettenberger's arrest on
alcohol charges.
Gray played last season behind senior Joe Cox.
Georgia's only other scholarship quarterback is 2010 signee Hutson Mason of
Lassiter High near Atlanta. Mason, a Parade magazine All-America pick, is
expected to enroll in the fall.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining at
quarterback for spring drills. He has appeared in 25 games, but much of that
time came on special teams. He has more yards on punt returns than passes.
Gray completed 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and one TD in the spring game.
Murray completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards with one interception.
Richt said Murray was the most consistent quarterback through the spring. Richt
said he was not picking a starter but simply establishing a depth chart at the
end of spring practice.
"On a consistent basis, he's performed better than Logan at this point," Richt
said of Murray last week. "That's all there is to it. It's the usual things:
accuracy, decision-making, those type of things."
Murray, from Tampa, Fla., was rated the No. 3 quarterback in the nation by
Scout.com and Rivals.com and was a Parade magazine All-America pick.
Murray is in position to be the first Georgia freshman to start at quarterback
in the season opener since David Greene in 2001, also after a redshirt season.

Well.. we can laugh until UF faces a similar issue.. .but well Richt is on
the hot seat this year many round these parts are saying... and his
basically promising he will beat UF this year... will probably be his
undoing if he doesnt deliver and he'll be the next coach at Miami when
Shannon is shown the door.

Also, I think that Percy failed one or two tests, and don't recall
him missing a UF game due to that reason.

That was the point that the NFL evaluator was making, that the NFL
can look beyond a couple of screw-ups, but 4 to 6 positive drug tests
sounds like an addiction, and that is an area

That said, I am not sure that it is possible to be addicted to THC,
so maybe it was taken as a sign of overall stupidity, also a
negative; right or wrong, the Dolphins sure suffered by missing Ricky
Williams for a full year. That would have to evaluate my opinion of a
player's worth.

who died of complications following hernia surgery while
Hernandez
was a junior in high school.
>>"It's good he did that,'' one AFC scout told the Globe. "But
it was enough
to scare people so that he fell through three rounds.''
>>Of course, the positive marijuana tests didn't slow down
Harvin, who was
named the NFL's 2009 Rookie of the Year. It didn't slow down
Hernandez last
year, either, when he caught 68 passes for 850 yards and five
touchdowns.
But he didn't play in the November game against Florida
International, and
the pervasive use scared teams away from drafting him with an
early pick.
>>"It's not like he failed one test,'' the AFC scout said of
Hernandez. "He
had repeated issues with it, to the point where you worry about
whether
he'll be able to lay off the stuff at our level. To be honest,
he's super
talented and, even with the issues, I'm surprised he fell as far
he did."
>>"He had multiple positive tests, so he either had issues or
he's dumb. One
or two tests? Fine. But four, five, six? Come on, now you've got
an
addiction. He's not a bad kid. He just has an issue.''
>>Slive: SEC exploring expansion just in case
>>By JOHN ZENOR Sports Writer
>>Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive says the
league isn't
considering adding teams but is working on a plan to keep up
with other
conferences if they expand just in case.
>>The commissioner said Monday that the 12-member SEC hasn't
talked to any
institutions about joining and has no plans to do so. The
expansion
exploration is just an internal look at the potential advantages
and
disadvantages in case there is a "significant shift in the
conference
paradigm," he said.
>>Slive didn't elaborate on how much expansion would fit that
billing.
>>"But I'll know," he said.
>>League expansion has been a hot topic since the Big Ten
announced in
December that it was considering expanding.
>>SEC teams have won the past four national titles in football
and have
lucrative TV deals with CBS and ESPN.
>>"That doesn't cry for change," Slive said. Any changes would
only be made
if the league deems it necessary to maintain its prominent
position, he
said.
>>"We've always been known to be a creative league, be on the
cutting edge,"
Slive said. "We're not going to allow ourselves in any way,
shape or form,
to be anything less than what we are now."
>>He declined to talk about what factors the SEC might look for
in potential
new members.
>>"The important thing is we're paying attention, we're going to
be
strategic, we're going to be thoughtful, but we're not going to
relinquish
our role as one of the premier conferences," he said.

Georgia's depth at quarterback, already thin, could soon take another hit.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton confirmed on Monday night that Logan Gray,
the only scholarship player behind No. 1 quarterback Aaron Murray, met with
coach Mark Richt to discuss his future with the team.
Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer
from Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is
weighing options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in
an e-mail.
Gray, a junior, met with Richt early Monday.
Murray, a freshman, ended spring practice as the No. 1 quarterback after
Richt kicked Zach Mettenberger off the team for violating team rules. Richt
previously suspended Mettenberger for one game after Mettenberger's arrest
on alcohol charges.
Gray played last season behind senior Joe Cox.
Georgia's only other scholarship quarterback is 2010 signee Hutson Mason of
Lassiter High near Atlanta. Mason, a Parade magazine All-America pick, is
expected to enroll in the fall.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining at

that time came on special teams. He has more yards on punt returns than
passes.
Gray completed 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and one TD in the spring game.
Murray completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards with one interception.
Richt said Murray was the most consistent quarterback through the spring.
Richt said he was not picking a starter but simply establishing a depth
chart at the end of spring practice.
"On a consistent basis, he's performed better than Logan at this point,"
Richt said of Murray last week. "That's all there is to it. It's the usual
things: accuracy, decision-making, those type of things."
Murray, from Tampa, Fla., was rated the No. 3 quarterback in the nation by
Scout.com and Rivals.com and was a Parade magazine All-America pick.
Murray is in position to be the first Georgia freshman to start at
quarterback in the season opener since David Greene in 2001, also after a
redshirt season.

Well.. we can laugh until UF faces a similar issue.. .but well Richt is on
the hot seat this year many round these parts are saying... and his
basically promising he will beat UF this year... will probably be his
undoing if he doesnt deliver and he'll be the next coach at Miami when
Shannon is shown the door.

Georgia QB Gray 'weighing options' for career

By CHARLES ODUM Sports Writer
Georgia's depth at quarterback, already thin, could soon take another hit.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton confirmed on Monday night that Logan Gray,
the only scholarship player behind No. 1 quarterback Aaron Murray, met with
coach Mark Richt to discuss his future with the team.
Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer from
Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is
weighing options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in an
e-mail.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining at
quarterback for spring drills.

Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer from
Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is
weighing options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in an
e-mail.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining at
quarterback for spring drills.

Georgia QB Gray 'weighing options' for career
  By CHARLES ODUM Sports Writer

Georgia's depth at quarterback, already thin, could soon take another hit.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton confirmed on Monday night that Logan
Gray, the only scholarship player behind No. 1 quarterback Aaron Murray, met
with coach Mark Richt to discuss his future with the team.
Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer
from Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is
weighing options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in an
e-mail.
Gray, a junior, met with Richt early Monday.
Murray, a freshman, ended spring practice as the No. 1 quarterback after
Richt kicked Zach Mettenberger off the team for violating team rules. Richt
previously suspended Mettenberger for one game after Mettenberger's arrest on
alcohol charges.
Gray played last season behind senior Joe Cox.
Georgia's only other scholarship quarterback is 2010 signee Hutson Mason
of Lassiter High near Atlanta. Mason, a Parade magazine All-America pick, is
expected to enroll in the fall.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining
at quarterback for spring drills. He has appeared in 25 games, but much of that
time came on special teams. He has more yards on punt returns than passes.
Gray completed 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and one TD in the spring
game. Murray completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards with one interception.
Richt said Murray was the most consistent quarterback through the spring.
Richt said he was not picking a starter but simply establishing a depth chart
at the end of spring practice.
"On a consistent basis, he's performed better than Logan at this point,"
Richt said of Murray last week. "That's all there is to it. It's the usual
things: accuracy, decision-making, those type of things."
Murray, from Tampa, Fla., was rated the No. 3 quarterback in the nation
by Scout.com and Rivals.com and was a Parade magazine All-America pick.
Murray is in position to be the first Georgia freshman to start at
quarterback in the season opener since David Greene in 2001, also after a
redshirt season.

the hot seat this year many round these parts are saying... and his
basically promising he will beat UF this year... will probably be his
undoing if he doesnt deliver and he'll be the next coach at Miami when

Georgia QB Gray 'weighing options' for career

By CHARLES ODUM Sports Writer
Georgia's depth at quarterback, already thin, could soon take another hit.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton confirmed on Monday night that Logan Gray,
the only scholarship player behind No. 1 quarterback Aaron Murray, met with
coach Mark Richt to discuss his future with the team.
Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer from
Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is
weighing options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in an
e-mail.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining at
quarterback for spring drills.

What a dumb ass. Millions at stake and he can't stop lighting up long

This is like Brantley getting kicked off the team, Burton becomes the starter, that other new QB does not make it into school (Scout has Tyler Murphy listed as a WR), and Jordan Reed wanting to transfer.  Chas Henry, our punter, would become our backup QB.

Is Richt going to last longer than this year?

Glad this came out.  Kept trying to find out what the problem with Hernandez was ...

Seemed like I was the only one that did not know what the problem was ... and everyone was trying to keep it a secret from me :-)

Report: Aaron Hernandez fell to 4th round because of positive marijuana tests
by Ben Volin

No one ever doubted Aaron Hernandez's talent, but he reportedly fell to the fourth round because of multiple failed drug test
For the second year in a row, an elite Florida football player fell in the NFL Draft because of issues with marijuana.
Tight end Aaron Hernandez, now a New England Patriot who was named the 2009 Mackey Award winner as college football’s best tight end, fell to the fourth round of last weekend’s draft because of multiple positive marijuana drug tests, according to a report by the Boston Globe.
Hernandez follows in the footsteps of former Gator teammate Percy Harvin, one of the top prospects in the 2009 draft who fell to the 22nd pick after testing positive for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The Globe reports that Hernandez passed his drug test at the Combine in February, meaning he won’t begin his NFL career in the league’s substance-abuse program. But the report states that Hernandez failed multiple tests while at UF, and that Hernandez was fairly forthcoming about his marijuana use when interviewing with teams before the draft. Hernandez told teams that his drug use stemmed from the 2006 death of his father, Dennis, who died of complications following hernia surgery while Hernandez was a junior in high school.
“It’s good he did that,’’ one AFC scout told the Globe. “But it was enough to scare people so that he fell through three rounds.’’
Of course, the positive marijuana tests didn’t slow down Harvin, who was named the NFL’s 2009 Rookie of the Year. It didn’t slow down Hernandez last year, either, when he caught 68 passes for 850 yards and five touchdowns. But he didn’t play in the November game against Florida International, and the pervasive use scared teams away from drafting him with an early pick.
“It’s not like he failed one test,’’ the AFC scout said of Hernandez. “He had repeated issues with it, to the point where you worry about whether he’ll be able to lay off the stuff at our level. To be honest, he’s super talented and, even with the issues, I’m surprised he fell as far he did.”
“He had multiple positive tests, so he either had issues or he’s dumb. One or two tests? Fine. But four, five, six? Come on, now you’ve got an addiction. He’s not a bad kid. He just has an issue.’’

Slive: SEC exploring expansion just in case
By JOHN ZENOR Sports Writer
Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive says the league isn't considering adding teams but is working on a plan to keep up with other conferences if they expand just in case.
The commissioner said Monday that the 12-member SEC hasn't talked to any institutions about joining and has no plans to do so. The expansion exploration is just an internal look at the potential advantages and disadvantages in case there is a "significant shift in the conference paradigm," he said.
Slive didn't elaborate on how much expansion would fit that billing.
"But I'll know," he said.
League expansion has been a hot topic since the Big Ten announced in December that it was considering expanding.
SEC teams have won the past four national titles in football and have lucrative TV deals with CBS and ESPN.
"That doesn't cry for change," Slive said. Any changes would only be made if the league deems it necessary to maintain its prominent position, he said.
"We've always been known to be a creative league, be on the cutting edge," Slive said. "We're not going to allow ourselves in any way, shape or form, to be anything less than what we are now."
He declined to talk about what factors the SEC might look for in potential new members.
"The important thing is we're paying attention, we're going to be strategic, we're going to be thoughtful, but we're not going to relinquish our role as one of the premier conferences," he said.
Slive spoke to editors and writers from the Southeast Region of the Associated Press Sports Editors across the street from his office in downtown Birmingham.

Georgia QB Gray 'weighing options' for career
By CHARLES ODUM Sports Writer
Georgia's depth at quarterback, already thin, could soon take another hit.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton confirmed on Monday night that Logan Gray, the only scholarship player behind No. 1 quarterback Aaron Murray, met with coach Mark Richt to discuss his future with the team.
Felton's statement was released in response to rumors Gray may transfer from Georgia.
"Gray's current status with the team has not changed, however, he is weighing options for the remainder of his playing career," Felton said in an e-mail.
Gray, a junior, met with Richt early Monday.
Murray, a freshman, ended spring practice as the No. 1 quarterback after Richt kicked Zach Mettenberger off the team for violating team rules. Richt previously suspended Mettenberger for one game after Mettenberger's arrest on alcohol charges.
Gray played last season behind senior Joe Cox.
Georgia's only other scholarship quarterback is 2010 signee Hutson Mason of Lassiter High near Atlanta. Mason, a Parade magazine All-America pick, is expected to enroll in the fall.
Gray considered a position change after the 2009 season before remaining at quarterback for spring drills. He has appeared in 25 games, but much of that time came on special teams. He has more yards on punt returns than passes.
Gray completed 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and one TD in the spring game. Murray completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards with one interception.
Richt said Murray was the most consistent quarterback through the spring. Richt said he was not picking a starter but simply establishing a depth chart at the end of spring practice.
"On a consistent basis, he's performed better than Logan at this point," Richt said of Murray last week. "That's all there is to it. It's the usual things: accuracy, decision-making, those type of things."
Murray, from Tampa, Fla., was rated the No. 3 quarterback in the nation by Scout.com and Rivals.com and was a Parade magazine All-America pick.
Murray is in position to be the first Georgia freshman to start at quarterback in the season opener since David Greene in 2001, also after a redshirt season.

IMHO - we have been increasing our talent level every year since

Who are they going to focus / key on this year? Although less game

Instead of one superman - we have a bunch of supermen now. the

QB is our only vulnerability. If Brantley gets hurt - our skill

Mark Richt has a little captain in him

by Jon McDonald (Gainesville SUN)

Never mind that Mark Richt has only beaten UF twice in his nine
years as Georgia’s head coach, he still thinks next year is the year.
When asked at a recent booster meeting if the Dawgs will beat the
Gators in 2010, Richt channeled his former captain, Bobby Bowden, by
saying, ““Are we going to beat Florida? You’re dadgum right.”
Richt may have felt empowered knowing that Florida is losing Tim
Tebow and other key components to the NFL, allowing the talent gap
between the teams to narrow.
That gap was evident in a 49-10 Florida steamrolling of Georgia last
year in Jacksonville.
Now, booster meetings are always a treasure trove of sound bites and
curious quotes, but when the quotes are Florida-Georgia related, a
little more attention is given to them.
With the Gators immersed in a reloading project this year, expect
Meyer to use any and every motivational tool at his disposal to fire
his team up this season. Not that any of his players will need extra
motivation heading into the Florida-Georgia game, but it’s pretty da
dgum likely they will remember this one.
Another interesting quote from Richt out of that same booster
meeting was about former FSU coach Bobby Bowden actually being able
to watch college football this season as a fan instead of a head
coach.
Richt said of Bowden: “He’s always been an Alabama fan his whole lif
e so I know he’s going to watch one of those. Hopefully, he’ll come
see us too.”
So, that means at least one of Bowden’s teams has beaten Florida in
the last six years.
