Hah! I hear ya, but even in the Doug Dickey years, when there was no expectation of ever really being a contender, it seemed best to say 'wait 'till next year'. Saying wait 'till next decade just sounds too pathetic. J Seriously, though, we have so much talent on this team that I believe we actually can turn it around in a single year if Meyer makes the right decisions on coaching and player personnel. Whether he will or not remains to be seen, but the talent is there just waiting for the right coaches to develop it. With that, and a good game-day OC who can actually call a game, we could be back in the hunt next year. On the other hand, if Meyer goes all stubborn on us and leaves the coaching team intact, then we may as well get used to this feeling. First off, I apologize for calling posters out by name in the heat of the aftermath of last night's debacle. For the record, in response to Stacy's question about a particular call, I took the opportunity to bash the ACC crew that worked the game for being, on occasion, what I felt, and still feel to be,unfair to the Gators. My memory of the ACC crew that worked the swindle in the swamp in 2003 is still bitter. That opinion was ridiculed (but I wasn't called out by name) for putting a modicum of blame(for the loss) at the feet of the officials. I had explicitly stated that we were so bad that the semis didn't need their help to win the game. In my opinion, that doesn't exonerate the crew for their blatant errors - even if, as was pointed out, the roughing the snapper penalty call was correct - I still don't ever recall it being called that before, maybe it falls under a bigger umbrella of personal foul. From a conference whose referee once called a foul giving him the business I suppose anything is possible. I'll address my opinions on the mess that was/is this miserable football season in a separate post. Again, I apologize for my post game indiscretion. RE: [gatortalk] Fumble
One other perspective of this horrible season should be considered from Jerry's original question. He said, in light of expectations. If one considers the loss of two coaches, one of whom garnered incredible criticism while in Gainesville, 11 players who went on to play in the NFL, one arguably the best college football player in history, the rash of injuries and suspensions to speed athletes and the infusion of lots of inexperienced freshmen and red-shirt freshmen, why would anyone have expected the Gators to be eastern division champs before the start of the season? Yes, we were led to believe these freshmen were the second coming of the legendary four horsemen, but they are still inexperienced freshmen! Even Tebow didn't do that well his freshman season. We really expected too much from this team. Now, can it be fixed? What would you do, fire Meyer? As he said, he has resurrected 3 football programs in his career. Would you really expect John Brantley to transfer? Maybe he isn't Cam Newton, but if you could just get a decent running back to stay healthy and plan the offense around his drop back style he could be a lot more effective. I know, he played lousy yesterday, but the whole team gave up. Everybody did. I think the coaching staff will be able to fix things with the talent we have. And we the fans need to be more realistic about what to expect from this team. You can't just win it all every year. Look at Nick Satan! At the beginning of this season he was the answer to college football. He was the supreme commander. Where is he now? Does anyone here really Gene Chizik will sustain what's happening at Auburn? Gus Malzahn won't be able to save him next year when ole Cam is gone. Oh yes, we could get rid of Addazio. And, yes his play calling was unimaginative. But, I wonder if he might stick his neck out a little more on game day if Deonte isn't a threat to drop half of what's thrown to him. He has improved greatly this year. [gatortalk] Gators vs Zook in the Gator Bowl?
One guy thinks so. No win situation for Meyer. If you don't win there will really be hell to pay. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/gatorbytes/2010/11/28/zookbowl/ SEC Bowl projections: Florida vs. former coach Ron Zook in Gator Bowl by Jason Lieser Florida ended the regular season 7-5 after losing decisively at Florida State on Saturday, and now the Gators' best hope for a bowl game is the Gator Bowl. Florida is higher than the seventh best team in the SEC, but will jump up to the conference's No. 6 bowl contract because the SEC is likely to land two teams in BCS games. If the Gator Bowl passes on Florida, it could be a precipitous drop. The Music City Bowl (Nashville) and Liberty Bowl might prefer nearby Tennessee or Kentucky over the Gators. That is unlikely, though, given how limited the Gator Bowl's choices will be. If the Gators go to the bowl named after themselves, they will face the fourth or fifth choice from the Big Ten. Illinois, Penn State, Michigan and Northwestern would be in contention to fill that spot. At this point, bet on the on the Gator Bowl committee picking Florida vs. Illinois, which would pit the Gators against former coach Ron Zook. Zook coached the team from 2002 through '04 before he was fired. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us

After announcing that Randy Shannon had been fired following Saturday's loss to South Florida, there are rumors out of Miami that former NFL coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden is going to take over at Miami. Now, it's important to point out here that neither Gruden nor Miami have said anything about this rumor. It all started out as a solitary tweet on Sunday afternoon that quickly became an internet and Twitter wildfire. Still, according to a report in the Sun- Sentinel, Gruden has reached out to Miami to talk about the job. According to a UM source, former NFL coach Jon Gruden initiated contact with the university to express his desire for the job and that the interest in mutual. Hocutt said there's no timeline on the hire and that money will not be an issue in the selection. Now, just because both sides are reportedly interested, that doesn't mean Gruden is going to be the next head coach at Miami. Often times there's interest on behalf of both parties, but then once contract details begin getting hammered out, that interest can sometimes wane. Still, the fact that this was reported in the Sun-Sentinel lends a lot more credibility to the rumor than a single tweet ever could. There definitely appears to be some smoke here. Whatever ends up happening, it's pretty obvious that 'Canes fans have already begun fantasizing about the possibilities. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us

[gatortalk] A Season of Un...
I haven't commented in quite awhile regarding anything that has gone on during this past football season. So - I'll take the opportunity at this time. What I've surmised is that this season has been the Season of Un. Simply explained as follows (in any order, I numbered them for no particular reason, nor order): 1.Unmotivated - The team played too many games looking as though they were just putting in their time on a Saturday. No sense of purpose as a group. 2.Unfocussed - Too many stupid penalties and blown assignments during the season. There's a point where the players have to concentrate and get the play right. During a game would be a good time. 3.Uninspired - There is no noticeable leadership on the team. No face on the offense no face on the defense. Nobody on the team has stepped up to be the face - the leader. Sure, it's not easy to replace leaders, but if a player is named as a Captain, then they had better step up. Granted, a Tebow-like person is once in a lifetime; but most of us were lamenting as to who would replace Weurffel and Wright after the '96 season. 4.Unskilled - The team had to replace a lot of good players. When 50+ players on the roster are redshirt sophomores down to true freshmen, they are essentially unskilled for SEC football week in week out. At any level, seniors vs. underclassmen make for an ugly game at times. One might be a 4 or 5-Star recruit, but an underclassman vs. a senior in most instances is going to be pretty ugly. 5.Underachieving - If the guys that replaced the fellows from last year were supposed to be better than their predecessors, then they most certainly didn't demonstrate it. 6.Unpracticed - I've thought about this one for a bit; and it pains me to say write it. The skill level of the receiving corps pales when compared to previous receivers. The defense is a poor tackling team. They need more practice to get better. The offensive line needs to block a lot better. In fact, too many times both lines were basically blown off the line of scrimmage. 7.Unemotional - For too many games, the team was emotionally flat. There's a difference between emotional swagger and arrogance. The emotional swagger that we've become accustomed to has not been there or noticeable. That swagger exuded confidence and showed during games. I miss the swagger of So what? We're the FLORIDA GATORS we're here to make you play your BEST game. Instead, we got We're the Gators - let's play a game go home. Let's hope that during this off-season the coaching staff and team will undo a lot of uncommon mistakes and unite as a team that has been given (gifted?) a legacy to uphold. It's been frustrating - to say the least. In all kinds of weather - Go Gators!
