I believe the answers are:

top 10 coaches - subjective based on who's criteria
top 10 team - #8 AP
Foley - you bet he will fire you if he doesn't think you are getting the job
done

These coaches have top 10 money, top 10 facilities, and top 10 talent. I
think we should be able to expect them to coach like top 10 coaches and have
a top 10 team. If not Foley will fire them and bring in coaches that are.

I agree with the general sentiment expressed in Dooley's column. I
certainly don't want Gator fans jumping all over Addazio, and it is true he
did a great job holding the program together while Meyer was figuring out
what was wrong, and trying to address it.

However, I do think the jury is still out regarding his play-calling and his
ability to utilize the talent available to him.

Isn't this something we discussed all last season? Was (our perceived)
underperformance on offense due to bad play-calling or a loss of talent from
the year before?

I didn't know the answer then, and still don't. We'll see as the season
progresses. I do know that college-level players should know how to snap
the ball and protect it. I don't blame Addazio for that.

Addazio is obviously a crucial part of our coaching staff. I wish him
nothing but success.

I saw this and was waiting to spring it on the next person who jumped on the
fire Addazio bandwagon. As Dooley says, he's the same OC we had for the

Nobody suffers winning like Gator fans. I was a little bummed after the
game Saturday. Not so much because we performed poorly in a 22 point win,
but because I knew the pending gnashing of teeth on Gatortalk.

Steve Addazio, the Back Nine has something to say. Tons of e-mails and
Tweets have rolled in and the cliche of all cliches has sprung up - a
firesteveaddazio.com website. Just remember this - Steve Addazio held your
program together during a crisis. He held together the best recruiting class

If I was Addazio, I might go all Colonel Nathan R. Jessup on the Gator

way, I don't give a (bleep) what you think you are entitled to." This is
still the same guy who called the plays in routs of Georgia, FSU and
Cincinnati. Like I said, you owe Addazio a debt of gratitude. You at least
owe him more than one game this season before you start carving him up.

11. Look, I wasn't happy with some the play calls Saturday, especially the
screen pass from the 1-yard line that should have been ruled a safety. But
with Addazio as coordinator, Florida is now 14-1. I think that has to count
for something.

Hi Jerry-

I agree with you that it was sweltering. They did give out free small cups
of ice at the concession stand--and sold $1 bottles of water until they ran
out.

On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 10:38 AM, Jerry Belloit wrote:

As I have thought about the game some more, the following have come to mind:

1. The last minute suspensions and injuries on the offensive line may
have had an even worse impact that first believed-especially from the tackle
and tight end blocking perspective. The offensive line that played was
simply not ready to play as a team. I believe that one of the problems with
the running game was that the offensive line was not doing their job very
well. I think it is true that Rainey and Demps seemed to be easily stopped
on several plays. Part of that problem might have been that they were often
hit in the backfield before they were really moving forward very well.
Another problem that seemed to be originating with the offensive line is
that Brantley had little time to throw before someone was on him from the
end rush. This lead to him throwing the short passes rather than
intermediate or long passes. I think that still another problem with
Pouncey was that he was not comfortable with the patchwork offensive line so
he had to think about what he might have to do to compensate-thus losing his
concentration on the snap. Likewise, I think the porous offensive line
caused Brantley to worry about the pass rush causing him to lose his
concentration.

2. Although it is not without some risk, Brantley needs to pull the
ball sometimes from the running backs and run himself. Often he would fake
keeping it and run in the opposite direction of the play. Almost always, he
was completely unchecked. This left their defense free to shoot linebackers
to the play.

3. I was really disappointed with our kickoff game. We have to get
the ball kicked higher and deeper. Our kicker is supposed to have a cannon
for a leg but you could not tell it Saturday. The ball needs to at least go
to the goal line, if not a few yards in the end zone.

4. I am sure that there were several persons that stayed home because
of the heat. I was really excited to be there but the heat was oppressive.
There were several in my area that left after or during the first half of
the game and did not return. I of course stayed to the bitter end. I think
that the AA should provide free ice during games like these and I think that
the water fountains should provide chilled water. I also think that the AA
should provide misting fans so that people could go cool off.

I am expecting that we will improve dramatically next week. The good news
is that we have a relatively light schedule leading into the Alabama game.
There is time to correct most of the problems.

Hi Jerry-
I agree with you that it was sweltering. They did give out free small cups
of ice at the concession stand--and sold $1 bottles of water until they ran
out.

probably merit to your points but the offense seems very reminiscent of last
year's dink & dunk with virtually zero downfield game. That's 1 full year
plus 1 game with the same coordinator and there is just no excitement to it.
SEC schedule could be a cobra/mongoose struggle - should be suspenseful!

[gatortalk] Tuesday Morning QB

2010-09-07 Thread Jerry Belloit
