It took this l-o-n-g season of disappointment, frustation and pain to get me to
this pitiful state of mind.  I was dead serious about Paula and I celbrating
the
end of this season.  And, I don't like feeling this way about a Gator team a
bit.

Seriously, though, we have so much talent on this team that I believe we
actually can turn it around in a single year if Meyer makes the right decisions
on coaching and player personnel. Whether he will or not remains to be seen,
but
the talent is there just waiting for the right coaches to develop it. With
that,
and a good game-day OC who can actually call a game, we could be back in the
hunt next year. On the other hand, if Meyer goes all stubborn on us and leaves
the coaching team intact, then we may as well get used to this feeling. I think
it would take another full year like this before Foley would get involved.

One other perspective of this horrible season should be considered from
Jerry's original question. He said, "in light of expectations."

If one considers the loss of two coaches, one of whom garnered incredible
criticism while in Gainesville, 11 players who went on to play in the NFL,
one arguably the best college football player in history, the rash of
injuries and suspensions to "speed" athletes and the infusion of lots of
inexperienced freshmen and red-shirt freshmen, why would anyone have
expected the Gators to be eastern division champs before the start of the
season?

Yes, we were led to believe these freshmen were the second coming of the
legendary four horsemen, but they are still inexperienced freshmen! Even
Tebow didn't do that well his freshman season.

We really expected too much from this team.

Now, can it be fixed? What would you do, fire Meyer?

As he said, he has resurrected 3 football programs in his career. Would you
really expect John Brantley to transfer? Maybe he isn't Cam Newton, but if
you could just get a decent running back to stay healthy and plan the
offense around his drop back style he could be a lot more effective. I
know, he played lousy yesterday, but the whole team gave up. Everybody did.

I think the coaching staff will be able to fix things with the talent we
have. And we the fans need to be more realistic about what to expect from
this team. You can't just win it all every year. Look at Nick Satan! At
the beginning of this season he was the answer to college football. He was
the supreme commander. Where is he now?

Does anyone here really Gene Chizik will sustain what's happening at Auburn?
Gus Malzahn won't be able to save him next year when ole Cam is gone.

Oh yes, we could get rid of Addazio. And, yes his play calling was
unimaginative. But, I wonder if he might stick his neck out a little more
on game day if Deonte isn't a threat to drop half of what's thrown to him.
He has improved greatly this year. The team will improve in the off season.
The sun will come up tomorrow.

We'll be back on top.

Hah! I hear ya, but even in the Doug Dickey years, when there was no
expectation of ever really being a contender, it seemed best to say 'wait
'till next year'. Saying wait 'till next decade just sounds too pathetic.
:-) Seriously, though, we have so much talent on this team that I believe
we actually can turn it around in a single year if Meyer makes the right
decisions on coaching and player personnel. Whether he will or not remains
to be seen, but the talent is there just waiting for the right coaches to
develop it. With that, and a good game-day OC who can actually call a game,
we could be back in the hunt next year. On the other hand, if Meyer goes all
stubborn on us and leaves the coaching team intact, then we may as well get
used to this feeling. I think it would take another full year like this
before Foley would get involved.

Thank you, John for injecting some reality into this list...
Face it, we are just not very good. And as much as many don't want to admit
it, it has a LOT to do with coaching.

Don't put anything past a crew that;

Called a facemask penalty against Black where the helmet was moved but the
facemask wasn't touched, then;

Failed to call anything under the exact same circumstances when the same
thing happened to Rainey on the play where he fumbled, then;

Since we were so bad that their help wasn't needed to steal the game from
us, still had to get one last shot in when we'd stopped fsu with two minutes
remaining, by making up a penalty never called before in the history of the
game - "roughing the snapper".

Yes, and volleyball went undefeated in the SEC and is going to the NCAA
tournament.  I've ordered my baseball season tickets and expect to go to the
College World Series again.  Women's softball should be outstanding again, as
well.  Men's basketball is 6-1.  We have a lot to cheer for as Gators.

I was thinking the same thing, Stacy, that it was blown dead. The replay
wouldn't have picked up the whistle.

Re: [gatortalk] Fumble

2010-11-27 Thread Scott Lucas

Only the refs can answer the why's, but it was blown dead but the fumble is
reviewable, play stoppages due to whistles are not reviewable... so they
reviewed, saw the fumble, gave to noles, but they could not advance due to the
whistle.
I do not think the whistle was blown far enough before the fumble to take
the fumble off the table for review, if that is what you were asking...
Judgement calls... bad ones, but so were a lot of things tonight

enjoy our 'celebration dinner' of oysters tonight.  We celebrated the end of

Don't put anything past a crew that;

Called a facemask penalty against Black where the helmet was moved but the

Failed to call anything under the exact same circumstances when the same thing
happened to Rainey on the play where he fumbled, then;

Since we were so bad that their help wasn't needed to steal the game from us,
still had to get one last shot in when we'd stopped fsu with two minutes

You are right-on, Woody.  Some of us saw it sonner, some later, but it's in
clear focus now that the regular season is over.  Paula and I were still able

enjoy our 'celebration dinner' of oysters tonight.  We celebrated the end of
this lousy season.

Same as any play, the fumble is reviewable. They were not allowed to advance

bad.
Hate this feeling...
I hope Meyer can turn it around. I do NOT think he needs to go, but there

An interesting tidbit. My dad, who was a long snapper in high school, was
particularly surprised to learn this (he is up here visiting).

My original question centered around our last fumble. We thought the play had
been whistled dead. We wondered if any else thought that, too.

Re: [gatortalk] Fumble

2010-11-27 Thread Cecilia
Amen, Brutha Woody!

There's no point in knocking each other in the head at this point. Our team
sucked pretty badly this year, and the coaching certainly hasn't been equal to
our expectations. We're back to the old maxim most of us have faced for many
of our years of Gator fandom: Wait 'til next year. :-/

  Thank you, John for injecting some reality into this list...

  Face it, we are just not very good. And as much as many don't
want to admit it, it has a LOT to do with coaching.

Don't put anything past a crew that;

Called a facemask penalty against Black where the
helmet was moved but the facemask wasn't touched, then;

Failed to call anything under the exact same
circumstances when the same thing happened to Rainey on the play where he
fumbled, then;

Since we were so bad that their help wasn't needed to
steal the game from us, still had to get one last shot in when we'd stopped fsu
with two minutes remaining, by making up a penalty never called before in the
history of the game - "roughing the snapper".

Try injecting a little reading comprehension.

Guess what? You're not the only one smart enough to see how bad we are.

Excuse me for taking a hopeful wait and see attitude when the season was still
young.

Thank you, John for injecting some reality into this list...
Face it, we are just not very good. And as much as many don't want to admit
it, it has a LOT to do with coaching.

  Don't put anything past a crew that;

Called a facemask penalty against Black where the helmet was moved but the
facemask wasn't touched, then;

Failed to call anything under the exact same circumstances when the same thing
happened to Rainey on the play where he fumbled, then;

Since we were so bad that their help wasn't needed to steal the game from us,
still had to get one last shot in when we'd stopped fsu with two minutes
remaining, by making up a penalty never called before in the history of the
game - "roughing the snapper".

Jeez - can you guys (Scott and John) read?

I specifically said that they DIDN'T need to steal the game from us because we
were so bad. But I still think that we got screwed on a few calls.

One of many things that went wrong this game. We didn't lose because of the
refs. Did they fumble the ball? Did they call a 4th and dumb fake punt? Did
they put in Brantely at the end of the hald after driving he whole field
without him?  NO!
Guess where the blame falls squarely at the feet of?

We went back several times to see where
the "roughing the snapper" occurred. We could not determine what, exactly, it
was.  Things to ponder, I suppose...along with many other puzzling things about
our team ( and the refs)!!
