RE: [gatortalk] Question about taunting rule

2010-04-16 Thread Ken Kirkley
This rule wouldn't have affected the '07 dawg pile. They did that after
they scored and were penalized for 2 personal fouls. My understanding is
this rule is only for taunting during live action (high stepping into the
endzone, pointing at the player, etc.) once you cross into the endzone,
live action stops and it becomes a dead ball penalty. Am I missing
something?

I agree that it's ridiculous. So many of these refs can't tell the
difference between a taunt and a celebration.

I'd say the 2007 Georgia end zone dance was definitely a collective taunt.
Players should have been ejected for that.

But just wait. Some player will thrust his fist in the air as he crosses
the goal line, with no opposing player in sight, and he'll be flagged for a
taunt.

This gives the refs way too much discretion, and credit.

Sooo.. question... will the taunting rule include the chomp? On
SportsNation on ESPN just now.. they said the score will be negated
for even high stepping into the end zone.

Personally i think this rule is ridiculous... talk about nanny state.

I agree.  they have enough problems with the current rules screwing up games.

I do want the kids to act respectful and the coach have them running steps when there is a problem.

I don't want it to ruin a whole season when a ref screws up.
