[gem5-users] Dynamic allocation of L1 MSHRs

2015-05-06 Thread Prathap Kolakkampadath
Hello Users,

I am simulating ARM detailed(O3) quad core CPU with private L1 cache and
shared L2 cache.
I am trying to regulate the number of outstanding requests a core can
generate. I know that by statically changing the number of number of L1
MSHRs(passed as parameters from O3v7a.py), i can restrict the number of
outstanding requests of a core.

I would like to have private cache with different number of L1 MSHRs for
each core(for eg: core0 - 1MSHR, Core2 - 3MSHRs ..etc). How to make this
assignment through configuration file?

Also i would like to dynamically change this allocation.
Can i make use of m5(special instruction) to do this? Can anyone shed some
light on this.

Thanks,
Prathap

Hello Users,

I understood the through CacheConfig.py, i can connect L1 caches with
different MSHRs to each core. However i am not sure how to dynamically
change the number of L1 MSHRs allocated to
each core. Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Prathap

Re: [gem5-users] gem5-users Gem5 boot time

2015-05-06 Thread Junaid Shuja
Respected,
Steve,
I am using the simple commands described on the gem5 website with the linux
kernel also downloaded from gem5 website. I am doing it for ARM.
build/ARM/gem5.opt configs/example/fs.py --disk-image=/home/junaid/
gem5/disks/arm-ubuntu-natty-headless.img
Is there any detailed CPU model in this?
Ruslan,
Are you also building the system for ARM?

 Hi,
I was trying to find out boot time of different gem5 (opt, fast) build
options. The gem5.opt boots in 90 minuts on my dual core machine. while
gem5.fast takes 60 minutes. Why is this time so long as compared to other
emulators such as Qemu. Qemu boots in 40 seconds on my system.

gem5 is a simulator, not an emulator. Nevertheless, those times seem very
long, unless you are using the detailed CPU model or something.

[gem5-users] Android ICS and gingerbread error while boot

2015-05-06 Thread Junaid Shuja
Hi,
I am trying to boot and android system with gem5, I have followed the
instruction given on this page,
http://gem5.org/BBench-gem5
When I execute the command,
/build/ARM/gem5.fast configs/example/fs.py -b bbench-ics
--kernel=vmlinux.smp.mouse.arm --frame-capture
It gives error that,
warn: Device system.membus.badaddr_responder accessed by write to address
0x10009000 size=1 data=0xd
warn: Device system.membus.badaddr_responder accessed by read to address
0x10009018 size=4
The system hangs on these messages. What can be the problem?
