Nordisk Tidsskrift for Informationsvidenskab og Kulturformidling's
newest issue is about gender and crowdsourcing, and is largely the
result of a symposium held March 9 last year.

[Gendergap] This weekend: Edit-a-thon under CPH:DOX

2015-11-06 Thread Ole Palnatoke Andersen
Hi all!

Tomorrow there will be a feminist edit-a-thon as part of the
Copenhagen International Documentary Festival. It is heavily inspired
by the edit-a-thon that was arranged on March 8-9, and we expect to
have a blast.

The event will be primarily in Danish.

[Gendergap] "We Can [Edit]!" in Copenhagen

2015-03-09 Thread Ole Palnatoke Andersen
Yesterday and the day before yesterday, we had an event in Copenhagen.

The event page is
https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:We_can_edit-a-thon_K%C3%B8benhavn_2015,
and the resulting articles (including a few expansions) are listed in
the section "Oprettede og opdaterede artikler".

It was very cool. We should totally do it again.

2013-09-30 Thread Ole Palnatoke Andersen
Yesterday, stand up comedienne Sanne Søndergaard* ** noticed "Wikipedia for

The discussion on Facebook has had its ups and downs. One particular down
is a lot of name-calling amongst the women in the discussion. It appears,
however, that some people are allergic to pink, and that some people find
the text condescending and patronising.

The kerfluffle has caused quite a lot of views on the portal - on ordinary

I guess Caroline meant that the post was off-topic. It was. Now all
please go back to your regular business.

[Gendergap] Disney Princesses fun..

2012-01-25 Thread Ole Palnatoke Andersen
which isn't really that funny.
George Takei posted an excellent illustration of Disney Princesses on
Facebook (you can also see the image at
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RmuZP-qViKM/TrYM8ZtFG-I/AFc/NO-hvW5Vvw8/s1600/disneyprincessparade.jpg
until someone removes it)..

I reposted it. If you know me on FB, feel free to re-repost it.

Nor is it the Danish Wikibooks or the Swahili Wikinews. That doesn't
really change the point that authority works better if the person
using the authority is perceives as being outside the conflict. That
is not always possible, of course.

I, for one, do not find your posts bothersome.
I find no problem with having one gender-neutral article for barbers
and hairdressers or for pimps and madams, but I do find it better to
have *two* good articles on the respective subjects.

[Gendergap] A translation request

2011-09-19 Thread Ole Palnatoke Andersen
I compiled a small article about FastCompany.com's "Most Influential
Women in Technology". Most or all of these women are notable, I guess
- they are on the list for a reason...

http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/FastCompany.com%27s_Most_Influential_Women_in_Technology
- it is in Danish, but should be fairly readable.

Ole

Somewhat related: The most well-known Danish woman's self-awareness
book, [[da:Kvinde, kend din krop]] was originally published in 1975,
and has been revised several times since. This year, the group behind
the book opened a photo booth in order to collect images of the
diversity of female genitalia. Have a look at it at
http://kvindekenddinkrop.dk/ - use your favourite translation service
if you don't read Danish (no, there are no genitalia on the front page
- the link 'BILLEDERNE' will take you there).

Did you take a look at the article history? Would you prefer the last
pre-merger version
(http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hairdresser&oldid=238820338)
over a redirect to a proper article about the same subject?

[Gendergap] New portal on dawiki

2011-06-23 Thread Ole Palnatoke Andersen
Last year, I had a discussion with a couple of the female editors on the
Danish-language Wikipedia. They have now created a women's portal:
http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_for_kvinder. I find it a
bit... pink, but I am outside the target demographic, so my opinion is
rather irrelevant :-)
