This would mean that any commits made to the site-publish tree would
automatically be deployed to the site. No more delays, no more SSH

Hi Karl,

Can you go through and add ASF license headers to all text-based files that can
be modified to accept comments? I see a lot of python files, etc. that don't
have headers. This used to be not such a big deal and could have been resolved
at commit time, but due to some other projects having copyright/license issues,
we'd like to make sure they all are properly licensed in the donation.

Thanks,

2010-02-03 Thread Mattmann, Chris A (388J)
Hey Justin,

Thanks for the instructions!

 In general, take a look at http://incubator.apache.org/guides/website.html ;

The quick-and-dirty guide (should work fine on Mac OS X) is:

 % make your changes
 % ./build.sh
% if adding any files, svn add, etc, etc. ; specifically check
 site-publish dir
 % svn ci

Worked perfect.

 Then:

 % ssh people.apache.org
 % cd /www/incubator.apache.org
 % svn up
...wait at least 1hr for it to appear on http://incubator.apache.org/...

[mattm...@x]/www/incubator.apache.org(25): svn up
Uprojects/oodt.html
Updated to revision 906087.
[mattm...@x]/www/incubator.apache.org(26):

(...waits for 1hr...)

Thanks!

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Peter,

Those look kinda cool!

As far as the first step, you've come to the right place. If you
haven't had a chance to review our proposal guide, I'd recommend
taking a look at: http://incubator.apache.org/guides/proposal.html.
That should hopefully give you an idea of what the beginning process
is. More importantly, however, at this stage, you need to find some
members who are interested in helping guide you through this
Incubation process and they can explain things as you go along - and
even explain why Apache makes sense, or why it doesn't!

Sadly, I've got my hands full with two other podlings, so I'm maxed
out. But, maybe some interested folks will chime in!

Good luck! -- justin

unclear to me is who the target users are (everyone with a computer?)?
And who is using it today? There are obvious overlaps between this
proposal, and the Traffic Server project, as you have pointed out. For
example, TS already has a clustering solution, which uses consistent
hashing for distributing the objects (granted, it's currently broken,
but we'll fix that :). I'm sure there are plenty of other pieces that
would be very similar, a proxy is a proxy after all.

As such, if this proposal gets accepted, I think it's important and
useful for both TS and Dalesa to cooperate, sharing ideas as well as
code (when possible). Long term, I could possibly see the two being
combined as one TLP (but, we'll have to see what code pieces can be
shared / merged etc., and we're currently working hard to get a first TS
release out the door). I don't think any of the TS developers are IPMC
members, so we can't help mentor the project during incubation. But I
myself would be willing to help as much as I can as a contributor, to
help you through incubation at least.

Cheers!

Yes.

Is there a description of svnpubsub?

Other than:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/infra/infrastructure/trunk/projects/svnpubsub/svnpubsub.py

and emails Paul has sent to all projects, I'm not sure. I know infra
has some docs about how they configure it on their end, but from the
project's perspective, they just commit and magic happens. --
