Good point; that is what SVN does for a copy/move.
It includes the source rev and the source path; both are needed to
retrieve the original source.

The only problem I can see is that SVN does not keep a history of
commit messages; once overwritten, they are gone forever.
They should be in the relevant mail archive, but that's not
guaranteed, and it's not particularly easy to find the info.

This is not a problem for moves within a repo, because svn log will
show the file details even if the commit message is changed.

So for this case it would be sensible to also record the original
source in a text file that is stored in SVN.
For example, the README.txt that already exists.
You've already indicated that you will update the old location to
point to the new one; this is the inverse.

Great point sebb! Thanks! It also made me realize that if I remove the
source from the original location I'd have to reference the SVN rev,
rather than source location for anybody interested in tracking history.

Will the work?

Thanks for taking an interest in the Incubator! I'd encourage you to
help out podlings, to check out the Incubator's documentation, to
follow general@incubator closely, and so on (and also to get involved
at other places around the Foundation, like Infrastructure, ComDev,
Legal Affairs, etc.). From there, the Incubator is a project like
other ASF projects: once you have accumulated merit and established a
record of positive contributions, then if the PMC is working as it
should someone will nominate you for membership and there will be a
vote on the private list.

There is a group of people that can join the IPMC by request: ASF
Members, a group of ~600 people who are effectively the shareholders
of the Foundation. ASF Members and PMC members are not the same
thing. See for
an explanation of those and other roles at Apache.

I'd also like to add that personnel matters are generally handled on
private lists at Apache. We try to limit usage of private lists, but
that's one of the main use cases (along with sensitive legal and
security matters).

Best,

Marvin Humphrey
