Re: [ANNOUNCE] Apache Fineract 0.6.0-incubating Release

2017-01-18 Thread Myrle Krantz
Hey Andy,

Fineract is made up of REST services. The Mifos Initiative produces an
open source web app called "The Community App" which can serve as a front
end to Fineract.

Here's a youtube demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h61g9TptMBo (Demo
starts after the introduction at about 3:20).

If you'd like some information about where this is used in real life, one
company using Fineract in their financial inclusion products is Musoni.
They have some nice charts and use cases here:
https://musoni.co.ke/impact/

Conflux is another company using Fineract to produce a product they call
Finflux.

That's pretty introductory material; perhaps you had something more
specific in mind?

Greets,
Myrle

These pages are now live. If you are a mentor of a podling, please go
in and add ppmc members. Or add one ppmc member and ask them to add
the rest. :-) Or simply verify that the list is accurate if it was
seeded from the authentication lists in the puppet configuration.

Note: for the moment, private@incubator will be copied on all changes.
Once things have been verified as working, this will be removed.

ApacheCon CFP closing soon (11 February)

2017-01-18 Thread Rich Bowen
Hello, fellow Apache enthusiast. Thanks for your participation, and
interest in, the projects of the Apache Software Foundation.

I wanted to remind you that the Call For Papers (CFP) for ApacheCon
North America, and Apache: Big Data North America, closes in less than a
month. If you've been putting it off because there was lots of time
left, it's time to dig for that inspiration and get those talk proposals in.

It's also time to discuss with your developer and user community whether
there's a track of talks that you might want to propose, so that you
have more complete coverage of your project than a talk or two.

We're looking for talks directly, and indirectly, related to projects at
the Apache Software Foundation. These can be anything from in-depth
technical discussions of the projects you work with, to talks about
community, documentation, legal issues, marketing, and so on. We're also
very interested in talks about projects and services built on top of
Apache projects, and case studies of how you use Apache projects to
solve real-world problems.

We are particularly interested in presentations from Apache projects
either in the Incubator, or recently graduated. ApacheCon is where
people come to find out what technology they'll be using this time next
year.

Important URLs are:

Early Bird registration rates end March 12th, but if you're a committer
on an Apache project, you get the low committer rate, which is less than
half of the early bird rate!

ApacheCon: Tomorrow’s Technology Today.

2017-01-18 Thread Rich Bowen
Dear Incubator participant,

ApacheCon has long tried to feature projects from the Incubator as much
as possible. This is because Apache has a long history of inventing the
future, and a lot of that happens in the Incubator.

As you have likely seen on other mailing lists, the CFP for ApacheCon
North America, and Apache: Big Data North America, ends in less than a
month. We would like to have strong representation from Incubator
projects, as well as from those which have recently graduated. The
tagline "Tomorrow's Technology Today" will be used to promote this
event, and it's up to you, our Incubator projects, to make this a reality.

Re: LDAP changes to support podlings

2017-01-18 Thread Felix Meschberger
Hi Sam

Like this very much. Thanks !

Started doing that for OpenWhisk and realized some strange UI behaviour: To add
a PPMC member I have to click + then search for the user, click on + again and
then click on „Add to PPMC“ button

What is the reason for the last „Add to PPMC“ button click ? This somehow
breaks the otherwise nice experience. Or would it be possible to batch-add
multiple members ?

Thanks
Felix

I agree with Felix that too many confirmations exist in the workflow right
now, but it worked great. And I was able to correct some missing people on
the mynewt PPMC. Yay!

Not an excuse, but some insight: this code is largely shared with the
code to manage PMCs, and was designed in anticipation of supporting
somebody who infrequently uses this interface. If you are adding a
single person to a PMC, it is helpful to have confirmations every step
of the way. And for PMCs, there is an option to add a person only as
a committer or as a committer and to the PMC, so that's the reason for
the extra step.

The plans are to open up the PMC interface to all members of the PMC,
and not just PMC chairs.

No question that the PPMC interface can be streamlined, but let's let
the current code 'bake' for a brief period before trying to improve
it.

As a java guy, I'm completely taken aback by this! (just kidding)

Basically, its my tendency to kill as many birds as possible with a single
stone. One of the advantages (though we can get this with svnpubsub as
well) is the automatic building of website updates (over the staging
area). Its my pet peeve that no one logs into CMS to perform the final
commit of a website change. So eliminating it seems like the most obvious
step.

Switching source control also gives us the gated feel of having the new
website come up in parallel and doing a hard cut over when its ready. The
infra impact is minimal at that point. Granted, yes, it could just as
easily be done with a new svn directory instead of a git repo.

The proliferation of github also makes it a much lower barrier of entry for
people looking to make website changes. Outside committers doing a RTC
workflow would have a good outlet, being able to edit files online and
commit is also beneficial. It means you can just edit the file online, fix
it and the website is live. In a much simpler to use interface. The goal
of CMS, unfortunately not where CMS ever got to.

It also in my opinion better aligns to the tools that podlings are using
more and more. Looking at sites like http://status.apache.org/ you'll see
that git has become a lot more active than svn has (as of writing this, 130
svn commits vs 927 git commits in the past 24 hours).

So to summarize:

- Automatic building of the website
- Gated conversion to a new look and feel
- Online editing of files
- Better alignment to the tooling that podlings use
