You are better about polishing English words than me😄
The point is only, I received many feedback about the long release
procedure is unexpected.

Sorry, incorrect to probably not teh right word. I just noticed it was
different to the standard one. Probably no need to change it but it also
probably best to stick to the original text, I leave it up to you.

Hi Justin

I like this list.

One suggestion,

In You will need to change the way you build and distribute software
> For instance, you now need to vote on releases over a 72 whole cycle, and

You need 72 hours pod inside vote, and IPMC vote take at least 72 hours,
sometimes more.
Also, we should indicate,
if this release doesn’t pass IPMC check, then it needs back to on pod inside
vote. Usually, at first several release votes, it takes more than 1 week, even
2.

For projects first time join incubator or ASF, they may be anxious about this.

Podling expectations and some issues encountered in incubation

2019-06-29 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

I put down some thoughts to help podling expectations and list some of the
issues a podling may face on it’s incubating journey. [1] Feedback and edits
welcome.

Most projects do not run into serious issues or are good at handling any issue
that do crop up. I think it would be a good idea to point project sconsidering
incubating at it and they can discuss with their champion what issues they
think may have a risk of occurring. Eventually we can turn this into a page on
the incubator site.

Thanks,
Justin

Just a reminder.
For this kind of dependency, you also should make this library as optional
in your feature. Such as for MySQL, should have a default DB, which license
is compatible with Apache 2.0
If MySQL is always required, and you just didn't include in binary, it is
still the catalog X dependency.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Doris 0.10.0-incubating-rc04

2019-06-29 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

+1 (binding)

I checked:
- incubating in name
- DISCLAIMER exists
- LICENSE has some minor issues (see below)
- NOTICE is fine
- ASF file have ASF headers
- No unexpected binary files
- I didn’t compile as I’m on an unsupported platform

LICENSE is missing:
- UTF-8 library [1][2]
- These files [3][4] copyright Facebook. The headers in this files may not be
correct.
- MIT licensed Sizzle from [6]

The licensing information list in headers of [3][4] is confusing e.g Is it
under an APLv2 license, or an AL or GPL license, or a BSD license? You might
also want to read this JIRA [5] to double check that the version of rocksDB you
are using is OK and not Category X.

Thanks,
Justin

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Flagon (Incubating) v2.0.0

2019-06-29 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

+1 (binding)

I checked:
- incubating in name
- signature and hashes fine
- DISCLAIMER exists
- LICENSE has minor issue (see below)
- NOTICE is fine
- all ASF files have correct headers

As noted above the LICENSE file has incorrect copyright line in the license
appendix.

Thanks,
Justin

New disclaimer text

2019-06-29 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

I put up suggested text changes for an incubator disclaimer here [1]. Comments
and feedback welcome. Text changes have been highlighted in yellow.

Note that a disclaimer can’t remove any licence or other rights a user may
have, the intent here it to just inform them that some podling releases may
have issues.

It also been suggested than any known issues be listed in the disclaimer.

Thanks,
Justin

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Doris 0.10.0-incubating-rc04

2019-06-29 Thread Willem Jiang
+1.

I checked
The artifacts has incubating in the name.
There is no binary in the release kit.
signature and hash is OK
DISCLAIMER file exists
LICENSE and NOTICE looks good to me.

There is a license notice section in the README file need to be
polished, I think by default build we should exclude the libraries
which License is not compiled with ASL.
End user could enable the feature by building the binary himself with
some additional options.
