Re: [VOTE][ANN] Qpid M2 Release

2007-11-26 Thread Rajith Attapattu
Thank you all for the support shown.
However Cliff Schmidt pointed out a few issues with the current release
candidates.
1.) The disclaimer was missing from all RC's except java
2.) The LICENSE file didn't contain the AMQP license for the specs.
3.) The dotnet release didn't have a source distribution.

I have made the necessary changes and recreated all the artifacts (except
dotnet which will be done tomorrow morning EST).
Since these are minor issues with no code changes, I would like to just
extend the vote by another two days instead of restarting it.

The details are the same. I am repeating it here so that you don't have to
sift through the thread.

The signed artifacts for the M2 final release is available at
http://people.apache.org/~rajith/qpid-release/M2/Final/

The keys are located at,
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/qpid/tags/M2/Final/java/KEYS

All artifacts can be downloaded as a single tar file at,
http://people.apache.org/~rajith/qpid-release/M2/Final/final.tar.gz

The release artifacts can be built using the following tag,
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/qpid/tags/M2/Final/

Your notice files refer to non-apache licenses for a number of your
artifacts. I would expect to see these licenses included in your
distribution. You don't give any license info for a few jars (e.g. msv
and servlet-api jars). If servlet-api is a Sun jar, then I think you
probably have an issue...

Here's my -1 until the above issues are resolved.

Re: [VOTE][ANN] Qpid M2 Release

2007-11-16 Thread Rajith Attapattu
Hi Kevan,

We rebuild the java RC after cleaning up the dependencies.
Since there are no code changes (except for one file which removed
references to commons logging) and only POM changes, we decided to restart
the vote on incubator list. We have also communicated the message to the
qpid list.

Here are the details.

The signed artifacts for the M2 final release is available at
http://people.apache.org/~rajith/qpid-release/M2/Final/

The keys are located at,
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/qpid/tags/M2/Final/KEYS

All artifacts can be downloaded as a single tar file at,
http://people.apache.org/~rajith/qpid-release/M2/Final/final.tar.gz

The release artifacts can be built using the following tag,
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/qpid/tags/M2/Final/

Regards,

Rajith

Kevan,

Looking at our dependency tree we have servlet-api in our list due to
common-configuration.

They have this in their pom

 servletapi
 servletapi
 2.3

So if Apache Commons is depending on the Sun Servlet API then there is
a bigger issue. We can block the dependency as we don't need it but
thought I should at least highlight that it appears Common
Configuration has a release that is dependent on the jar.

Re: [VOTE][ANN] Qpid M2 Release

Yes, we have no use of the servlet API.
For JMS we only use the geronimo spec files.
As Martin pointed out, maven seems to be pulling all these jars into the build.
Let us investigate and get back to you guys.

This file was checked in as a static file as remote-resources is only
as good as its input and most of the dependencies didn't specify their
License so the file had to be completed by hand.

I am still amazed by the number of jars maven decides we need to have
included. Before we used maven we only had a handful of jars.

As Kevan points out servlet-api is listed .. I would be very surprised
if we actually needed that jar.

Re: [VOTE][ANN] Qpid M2 Release

2007-11-14 Thread Daniel Kulp

Hmm looking at the notice file, it looks like the NOTICE file was
generated from remote-resources, but it looks completely out of date.
There are several jars in the lib that have no mention in the NOTICE
file.

To name a few:
log4j, com.ibm.icu, jms spec

That's strange. Was the NOTICE file actually generated from
remote-resources at build time or was it generated a while ago and
checked in as a static file and then not updated? (aka: is this a
potential bug in remote-resources that I need to look at or a release
procedural issue)

Re: [VOTE][ANN] Qpid M2 Release

Hi Rajith,
Where is the license information for artifacts included in your
binaries?
Your notice files refer to non-apache licenses for a number of your
artifacts. I would expect to see these licenses included in your
distribution. You don't give any license info for a few jars (e.g. msv
and servlet-api jars). If servlet-api is a Sun jar, then I think you
probably have an issue...

Here's my -1 until the above issues are resolved.

 Hi Rajith,
Well, here's my interpretation...

According to
http://incubator.apache.org/incubation/Incubation_Policy.html#Releases you
must hold a vote. Convention for votes is a minimum 72 hours. So, I would
say you must wait 72 hours. At the end of that time, barring any -1 votes,
your vote will pass...

Can the IPMC members cast their vote, as we are very keen to do the
release during Apache Con.
We already have 3 mentor votes. Is that good enough?

Rajith
