I checked it out, seems cleanly packaged, with incubation notice and licenses.

Umm, maybe it's just me, but the fact that it's already in the dist
directory implies that you're already distributing it. Or was that
done sometime between this message showing up and me waking up and
reading it?

In all the releases I've ever been a part of you stick the files in
someone's home directory on people, or some other place where it won't
be mirrored, then vote, then move it into dist.

Re: [VOTE] Publish the Woden Milestone 6 release

2006-09-27 Thread John Kaputin (gmail)

Thanks for the advice Garrett and Guillaume. I read the policy stuff on
incubator releases in [1] and [2] but didn't see anything about using
private directories and not using official repositories.

The way we have done the previous milestone releases is to upload the
archives to this location, get the Woden and Incubator PMC votes passed,
then publish a link to the location on the Downloads page of the Woden
website. We can use a private repository next time during the voting phase,
but I assume it's OK once the vote has passed to put milestone releases in
/www/people.apache.org/dist/ws/woden/. If not, I'd like to be able to tell
that it from [1] or [2].

woden.jar, woden-api.jar and woden-ant.jar lack LICENSE and NOTICE
files in their META-INF directories. all release artifacts that are
distributed from apache must have LICENSE and NOTICE files. if woden
plays to issue these jars through the maven repository they need to
have these files included. i strongly suggest that this release is
rerolled.

a few notes:

this appears to be a binary only release. open source releases should
definitely include a source distribution.

the tar.gz unpacks directly into the directory into which the command
is run. it's better to unpack into a subdirectory named after the
release type for example woden-incubating-1.0.0M6.

apache releases should include the apache name in the artifact for
example apache-woden-1.0.0.tar.gz. there is some discussion about how
strongly applies to incubating releases but i would recommend that you
get into the habit now.

I have re-rolled the Woden 1.0.0 Milestone 6 release based on the feedback
from the Incubator PMC.

The jar files now have LICENSE and NOTICE files in their meta-inf
directories.
The release now includes a source code distribution as well as a binary
distribution.
The archive files names now begin with apache-woden-incubating-1.0.0M6*
The archives now unpack to the top-level directory name
woden-incubating-1.0.0M6
The files for this release are now located in a private directory at [3] and
the previous M6 release files have been removed from
/www/people.apache.org/dist/ws/woden.

We would now like to request the permission of the Incubator PMC to publish
the Woden M6 release files on the Woden Download page at [2]. Pending this

Re: [VOTE] Publish the Woden Milestone 6 release

2006-10-04 Thread John Kaputin (gmail)

I have not yet had any response to the second VOTE request after I re-rolled
the Woden M6 release files. This is becoming urgent as the M6 release is
required for upcoming the Axis2 1.1 release, so this is a gentle reminder
for any Incubator PMC members from Apache WS.

There were two binding +1 votes from the first VOTE request. Are these
still valid for the re-rolled release candidate or do I need to start again
and get three +1 binding votes for the re-rolled release.

John Kaputin.

I have re-rolled the Woden 1.0.0 Milestone 6 release based on the feedback
from the Incubator PMC.

We would now like to request the permission of the Incubator PMC to publish
the Woden M6 release files on the Woden Download page at [2]. Pending this
permission, the release files are stored at [3].

+1

notes:

hosting the release candidate on your apache web space
(http://people.apache.org/~jkaputin) is best

the LICENSE and NOTICE files are in the jars but are in meta-inf not META-INF
