[gentoo-user] Two network connections
I'm looking for some tips to start off creating a specific home network. My ISP gives me two IPs, I'd like to use one of them for my desktop, and one for a wireless router (I don't want to put my desktop behind the router because I don't want to compete with my roommate for forwarding ports). However, my desktop has two network cards, and I'd like to also attach my desktop to the router (as net.eth1). Then, I'd like to configure it so that my desktop knows to use eth1 for any 192.168.x.x IP, and eth0 for all other internet usage. My problem is that I really have no idea what software I should use on my computer to configure it in this fashion. Can someone give me a hint on where to start learning? Re: [gentoo-user] Problems with Gnome
The problem was that I was running gcc-3.3.1-r2. I downgraded to gcc-3.3.1-r1 and recompiled the programs, and they now work. -Peter -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
[gentoo-user] Messages from emerge -u world
Hi, When I do an emerge that upgrades multiple packages, I usually miss the messages that are output at the end of the builds. Often, these are pretty important. I recall hearing somewhere that these messages are logged; can anyone tell me where? Thanks, -Peter -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
[gentoo-user] Problems with Gnome
Hello, I have a couple problems with Gnome that I was wondering if I could get help with. I recently upgraded to Gnome 2.4, and also did an emerge -u world. Since then, it seems any Gnome apps I compile crash on startup (right now, it includes at least galeon, totem and gnomemeeting), but the apps that I haven't recompiled still work well. Galeon and totem give me the following error on startup: (galeon-bin:15259): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdisplay-x11.c: line 432 (gdk_display_pointer_ungrab): assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed (galeon-bin:15259): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdisplay-x11.c: line 476 (gdk_display_keyboard_ungrab): assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed And gnomemeeting gives me: (process:21807): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:1871: initialization assertion failed, use g_type_init() prior to this function (process:21807): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:1911: initialization assertion failed, use g_type_init() prior to this function (process:21807): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:1871: initialization assertion failed, use g_type_init() prior to this function (process:21807): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:1911: initialization assertion failed, use g_type_init() prior to this function (process:21807): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:1871: initialization assertion failed, use g_type_init() prior to this function (process:21807): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file gobject.c: line 615 (g_object_new): assertion `G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed This leads me to believe it might be a problem with gdk-pixbuf, but any attempts to compile any version of gdk-pixbuf always fail (I'm not sure where to get a more detailed report on the crash, but I'll gladly report more information on this if someone lets me know). Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any suggestions? Also (and I'm not sure if this is related to the above problem) but every time I attempt to compile guile-1.6.4 it also results in failure. Thanks for any help, -Peter -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
[gentoo-user] esound problems
I've been having some problems after upgrading my kernel to 2.4.21 (which probably has more to do with my failure to configure it properly, rather than a problem with the kernel itself). One of these problems is with esound (I think). When I try to compile libgtkhtml-3.0.7 (for evolution), it fails with a bunch of undefined references to libesd.a: /usr/lib/libesd.a(audio.o)(.text+0xc15): In function `esd_audio_read': : undefined reference to `snd_pcm_frames_to_bytes' /usr/lib/libesd.a(audio.o)(.text+0xde8): In function `esd_audio_write': : undefined reference to `snd_pcm_frames_to_bytes' I've attached a complete list of undefined references, if it helps. Also, XMMS, which I previously used with the eSound plugin, now fails to play. It works fine with the OSS Driver, though. This worked fine before I upgraded the kernel. I've tried re-emerging esound, but that didn't help. The soundcore.o and i810_audio.o modules load fine. I'm not sure what else to try, can anyone help? Re: [gentoo-user] Threaded email client for gentoo-user?
On Mon, 2003-06-23 at 21:09, Spundun Bhatt wrote: Dhruba Bandopadhyay wrote Threading the messages is a good idea since it alleviates information overload. However, what good threaded email clients are there? So far I am using mozilla mail 1.4_rc2 which is the only competent and fast threaded email client I have found with good IMAP support. What do you use? Evolution. I think one other thing to note is that mostly threading is turned off by default, so probably many users violating the threading are just unaware of the capability of their mail client and hence unaware that they are breaking other people's mail-reading-experince. Another thing mentioned last time in a similar thread was top-posting. While I have harrassed the online community a lot with my top posted mails, I am trying to change that, is there any guidelines available for this? Sometimes I feel that if my message is starting on the second page of the mail, no-one is going to read it. Spundun -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list And perhaps someone could answer why bottom-posting is better, anyway? I'll obey it, if that's etiquette. But I would have thought top posts were easier to read. -Peter -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
Re: [gentoo-user] emerge world -up not showing some updatedpackages
When you installed CUPS in the first place, did you emerge it specificially, or was it installed as a dependency for another package. If I recall correctly, only apps that you emerge specifically are added to your world file. -Peter On Sun, 2003-06-22 at 23:52, oom wrote: Greetings gentooers!
