RE: [gentoo-user] Config Files Update?
There is a program called 'etc-update' this will show you the changes that will be required to update your files in /etc and subdirs, but I find it doesn't do all the updates.. Really? I use etc-update all the time but was running under the assumption that it was supposed to handle all of the updates. Perhaps this is a bug. Do you have examples of updates that etc-update didn't process? -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list

Re: [gentoo-user] Config Files Update?
Check out etc-update- man etc-update. However, do NOT blindly say yes to all it updates - if you do that and come here whining we won't listen G! This is a tool that requires you to look at what it wants to update and not just blindly update files like /etc/fstab. Use it wisely and look at what it wants to change. Eventually you'll realize which files are safe to let it go and which aren't. Re: [gentoo-user] Config Files Update?
Hi run etc-update trivial updates will be handled automatically. For you non-trivial updates, the utilities will show you a text based menu to complete it.. It is well written in some gentoo docs. You can check it out if you need more details. Cheers, Zarick -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list

I emerged KDE and at the end of the emerge it said that 10 config files need to be updated. Is this something that has to be done manually or is there a command that will auto update them for me? use 'etc-update', but first have a look at /etc/etc-update.conf , which allows you to choose your diff manager editor: i recommend Gvim.
