Re: [gentoo-user] Dual Athlon 2Gz compile times?

2003-10-20 Thread Lotas T Smartman
no, but i have 2 2gz athlons that are rated as 2.4gz P4s. the hyper
threading is a different kettle of fish. it can do 2 threads at the same
time but one will run slower then the other. my 2400+ athlons will run
as a 2.4Gz P4 (or should i say beat) and 2 will act as 2 of them. under
a SMP enabled app, like building a kernel or something using the make
-j3 option, it would, in theory, act as a P4 running @ 4.8Gz. i know its
only running @ 4gz in theory (maybe in reality 3.8Gz V a P4) but fast
anyway!

I have a similar setup with just half the RAM. Bootstrap took
35-45mins, X11 about the same. I compiled KDE next, which took a few
hours, but having moved to Gnome recently I would guess at 90 minutes or
so?? I might be a little off on the Gnome guess. Also, Mozilla
compiles in about 25minutes, QT in about 15 and most other things before
you can hit a button on your stopwatch. (don't bother to type 'time' at
the console, it'll be done before you can)
Seriously, my dual AMD setup is very very fast at compiling, wouldn't
change it unless I added more RAM.
