So gstreamer and gedit are installed now. I forgot to run python-updater after
a python upgrade. After doing this step, gedit installed fine.

But now I have a completely different problem. Gnome doesn't find any icons, I
get a lot of error messages and something that says gnome-settings-deamon
couldn't be started. I will switch to LANG=C and post the errors later, if
I don't find any solution.

I also deleteted ~/.gnome* and ~/.gconf* - nothing happened.

If anybody knows a solution to these strange problems, it would be nice if you

I think the algorithm determines the lenght of the current line (or

I don't want to say wrong things, but that's what I think:

Cameras, especially the ones from Canon speak a specific protocol which
transfers files from the camera to your computer. Because of this you can't
simply mount the card in your camera. It's rather necessary to use a card
reader for this purpose, like you do, or to use gphoto which understands the
camera specific protocol.

I mean you can also see it this way: digiKam represents the pictures as a file

[gentoo-user] [OT] Video streaming solution

2006-02-24 Thread Rafael Bugajewski
Hi all,

I search for a open source solution for video streams. What I want to do is to
have a server with a simple GUI on which I can control several video streams
that get distributed. The streams have to be distributed to thin clients or
video projectors. In the case I would use video projectors I have the
question: Are there some video projectors with a network interface? If yes,
which protocol do they speak, is there a standard?

The clients (or projectors) should work this way that I turn them on and it
just works, no configuration, no clicking, _nothing_. I know, that I can
realize it with scripts, but I completely dunno what software to use. The
whole controlling process should be done from the server.

The server itself should have a simple user interface (for users which dunno
much about computers). They can configure which stream to show on which
client and also disable the streams.

Does anybody has an idea how such a configuration can be realized and with
which software?

Rafael

O.K., thanks, it works now like I want it to work.

The keyserver-option auto-key-retrieve tells gpg to try to get a key

You can check 'man gpg' for more information about tweaking gpg's

Thanks for the hint. I didn't think it was the gpg configuration, I thought I

New users usually do not install apps that their distro does not provide.
Almost every distribution has a package system with a GUI. It is also better
to install not provided applications into /usr/local/ because it is usually
in the path environment variable, so applications can run without the whole
path prefix (imagine new users with the following question: Where is my newly

I do understand you now, but I don't think it's a useful behaviour. You could

[gentoo-user] KMail and GnuPG plugin

I have a problem with KMail regarding the GnuPG plugin. I think i just do not
know how to use it and where to find documentation, so a little help would be
useful.

The plugin itself works fine, I can send encrypted and signed messages, I get
always a prompt in which I can enter my passphrase etc.

My only problem is if I receive signed messages from unknown identities. KMail
puts the whole message into a yellow box and says that there is a unknown
key. There is no possibility to search for the key and insert it, or is it
and I do not know about it? It would be nice to add new keys directly from
the KMail interface. If it is not possible, what is the fastest _and_ most
user friendly way?
