Re: [Geotools-devel] new repository please test

2015-10-20 Thread Frank Gasdorf
I updated boundless repository urls to
https://boundless.artifactoryonline.com/boundless/snapshot/ in root pom
file and then it works. Seems to be a proxy/routing problem from

http://repo.boundlessgeo.com/main/ to
https://boundless.artifactoryonline.com

We are setting up a replacement repository (cloud hosting for PMC
 access).

Can I ask geotools developers to try out the repo using the following
settings (before we change the DNS entry over):

 1. Edit .m2/settings.xml with the following

   boundlessgeo
   Boundless Cloud Repository

 https://boundless.artifactoryonline.com/boundless/ext-release-local

   boundless

 2. Rename your .m2/repository cache to repository2 (to force download)

 3. Build! And reply to this email thread with pass fail.

We have synchronized with repo.boundlessgeo.com so I do not expect
 trouble.

Frank,

everyone is welcome. Attendees must make themselves known and send their
Skype ID to committee members so they can be invited to the Skype telecon.

Kind regards,

[Geotools-devel] PMC meeting minutes, October 20th 2015

2015-10-20 Thread Andrea Aime
GeoTools / GeoServer Meeting 2015-10-20
===

Attending
-

Ben Caradoc-Davies
Andrea Aime
Jukka Rahkonen
Kevin Smith
Torben Barsballe
Frank Gasdorf
Jody Garnett

Agenda
--

- Daylight Saving Time
- Build infrastructure
- Scalability work on JDBCConfig
- CITE NG work
- 13.3/2.7.3 released
- MemoryDataStore thread safety (& backport to 14.x for uDig)
- Jira
- JAI replacement

Actions
---

- Victoria Office: move master to reference artifactory directly

Actions from last meeting
-

- Jody: geotools 14.0 blog post [DONE]
- Ben: next meeting invite has a time change
- Ben: GML client library blog post [DEFERRED (not yet working)]
- Andrea: Send Java 7 switch master email (yay!)
- Kevin: proposal for geotools Java 8 functional interfaces [DEFERRED,
haven't had time]
- Jody: run fossdem vs victoria numbers, default assumption is victoria

Daylight Saving Time

New meeting time 20:30 UTC from 3 November (next meeting):
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=GeoTools+%2F+GeoServer+Meeting=2015=11=3=20=30=0=1

Depending on your location and daylight saving, this may be the same local
time or one hour later.

Build infrastructure

GeoScript project tests, not conclusive right now.
Referencing directly artifacty may help? We'll try to do it (Victoria
Office)

OSGeo - releases
Boundless - snapshot

Frank created a pull request because of this - change the pom.xml snapshot
repository. We should try sending it to "main"...

Please see pull request https://github.com/geotools/geotools/pull/1006

Ares access?
- After move from ares to new machine we should be able to set up PSC

Scalability work on JDBCConfig / GWC

Catalog full table scan? Some REST Config method ... do we have a bug
report? See mailing list "a large GeoServer deployment with about 40,000
layers"
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.geoserver.user/47007
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.geoserver.user/47009

- Gabriel added examples of scalable code...
- geosolutions - updated core
- gwc is currently biggest offender, so aaime is going to look at this

CITE NG work

Need to get the tests on Ares, see "build infrastructure" discussion, lower
priority than restoring the build.

Request outstanding since July - sigh.

Jody: Set up new jobs? Will work in conjunction with boundless staff.

13.3/2.7.3 released
---

It's out, try it out.

Aside: GeoTools 14.0 announced ... in the past :)

MemoryDataStore thread safety
-

Heavily used in uDig as a temporary layer, getting
ConcurrentModificationException. Pull request to avoid the CME
 see https://github.com/geotools/geotools/pull/1002

Another pull request to add "removeSchema".
 see https://github.com/geotools/geotools/pull/1003

Backport pull requests are coming from Frank, once 1002 & 1003 are accepted.

Jira

- Short discussion on MacOS X failures
- Jira not for support requests
- Detailed build failure reports welcome on Jira
- Mailing lists also suitable if unsure where it is just your failure
- Andrea added Jira guidance to project home page on GeoServer
- Guidelines have reduced inappropriate use
- Will leave GeoTools as it is for now as less problems

JAI replacement
---

- There was a discussion about the replacement of JAI
- OpenCV suggested
- JAI design does not work well with GPUs
- CUDA version of some JAI operators was faster than JAI
- Pure Java was faster
- Native call performace overhead, synchronisation problems
- Compare with pure Java PNG encoder, which was faster than native
- Interpolation breaks tile-based optimisations for GPUs as need
neighbouring tiles

Pull requests
-

- Went though pull requests
- Merged some PRs
- Discussion
- Legend graphic work has finally been merged. Thanks to everyone involved
for their patience during this epic.

Regards
