An exciting opportunity to work in a new ESRC funded research Centre
investigating how low-carbon futures can be shaped through policy, and how
these will impact everyday lives.

The post holder will conduct research on when, how and why significant
decarbonisation transformations have occurred in the past, and what role policy
and politicians can play in accelerating them in the future.

The Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) is a major ESRC
investment, funded for up to 15 years. The Universities of Cardiff, East Anglia
and Manchester are its founding partners.

The post is available on either a full-time or part-time (0.6fte – 1fte),
fixed-term basis for 36 months (pro rata equivalent, but not beyond
30/04/2024). It is located at the University of East Anglia, School of
Environmental Sciences.

Closing Date: 8 August 2019; Ref: RA1659

[gep-ed] online PhD programs

2019-07-23 Thread Jonathan Rosenberg
Hi all,
An acquaintance, already working in program development at an
intergovernmental climate change center, is looking for online PhD programs
related to climate change or environmental studies. He has an
interdisciplinary MS in climate change that combines natural and social
sciences. He is place-bound because of his professional obligations. So
if any of you know of any reputable doctoral programs for which most of the
work can be completed online, I would appreciate your suggestions.

Please respond directly to me and, as is our collegial custom, I will
compile and share the results.

Thanks,
Jonathan

[gep-ed] Podcast on evolution of partisan polarization on environment and climate change

2019-07-23 Thread Dunlap, Riley
Last week I did an interview with the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy at the
University of Pennsylvania on partisan polarization over environmental issues
and climate change in particular that covered how it has evolved over the past
half century. It provided a chance to not only trace the growth of
polarization over the decades but to tie it to waves of anti-environmentalism
and climate change denial. Some of you may find it of interest, especially for
the historical perspective on our current situation.

It wasn't my best effort, as I had just endured a few hours of intense noise
from a chainsaw, stump-grinder and leaf blower as my next-door neighbor had a
couple trees removed, which drove home the fact that noise is indeed a
stressor! But I managed to hit the key points I wanted to make.

The podcast is available here, and (I'm told) on ITunes.

Subject: Vacancy Assistant Professor Environmental Governance

Dear colleagues,

I would like to draw your attention to a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in
Environmental Governance at the Netherlands Open University.

The faculty of Management, Science & Technology at the Open University of the
Netherlands (OUNL) is looking for an Assistant professor Environmental
Governance (F/M, 0,8 fte) for 4 years, with the possibility of a permanent
contract afterwards. The successful candidate will become part of the
Department of Science, a small but ambitious group focused on sustainability
challenges. The group wants to contribute to the resolution of societal
problems through excellent research and teaching programs. The educational
programs of the Department have been evaluated as the best in the Netherlands
for years. The Department has similarly high ambitions in the realm of
research, as witnessed by its very active participation in the OUNL Research
programs on "Resilience, Learning and Innovation" and "Safety and the City". We
are looking for enthusiastic applicants who will help us enhance the profile of
the OUNL, and who have the qualities to contribute new energy and ideas to our
teaching and research lines.

The assistant professor will play an important role in both the teaching and
research programs of the OUNL. The research of the Department specifically is
aimed at developing a better understanding of the origins of policy
innovations, their pathways of diffusion, and their actual impacts in terms of
sustainability. The candidate we seek has proven research skills in the field
of environmental governance and has an active interest in the theme of (policy)
innovation, that is, new modes of governance, new goals, and new instruments.
The Department hosts both a B.Sc. and a M.Sc.- program in Environmental
Sciences (online education) and the assistant professor will be responsible for
several courses, and is to provide additional teaching inputs where needed
(thesis supervision, new courses, certified professional programs).

The deadline for applications is September the 1st. Full details can be found
here
https://www.academictransfer.com/nl/284711/assistant-professor-in-environmental-governance/

Please feel free to forward this e-mail to candidates who you feel might be
interested!

Bets regards

Dave
