The (GPL) license puts some requirements on distribution, but you don't have to mention the terms in the advertising for it, nor must it be distributed for free. free refers to the terms that source code is distributed at no extra charge and with full modification rights, not to the actual price. (see the GPL FAQ at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html for more info) It is possible that those two fail to fulfill the licensing requirements, but to know that you must buy the software and check. -- The choice of a -==- _GNU_ ==-- _ generation Marc Lehmann ---==---(_)__ __ __ [EMAIL PROTECTED] --==---/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / http://schmorp.de/ -=/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ XX11-RIPE ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.xcf.berkeley.edu http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Hi, steve hudson wrote: i think you'll find somewhere in GPL you cant distribute it under another name and have no reference to GPL on the site You're getting copyright (the licence) and trademarks (the name) mixed up. There is nothing preventing me from releasing what's in GIMP CVS as Dave's Paint Program. I must release it under the GPL. That means, I must include a file with the GPL in the package I sell you. You can then request the source code, which I must provide to you, charging no more than the cost of the media it comes on. and if this is the way GPL works you need to seriously rethink it It's been pretty well thought out before. Hi It seems that you have been infected by some kind of virus and that virus is sending messages to this list in the hopes of infecting other ones. Luckiliy for us, most GIMP users are using some kind of 'nix distribution and cannot be infected by this virus which is w32/[EMAIL PROTECTED] according to the AVERT Labs virus email analyzer. But since I heard about ports of the GIMP to windows I hereby advice ALL WINDOWS USERS DO NOT OPEN THE MESSAGE Re: Is delivered mail instead DELETE IT (if you are using outlook, disable the preview pane before trying to delete the message and also delete the message from the trashcan) With kind regards Andy On Sat February 12 2005 13:01, Mplough wrote: Thanks for use of our software. I don't believe that I have any viruses on my system; I'm running Thunderbird, Firefox, and the version of Symantec without the vulnerabilities that have just been reported. However, I'd like to see the headers on that email; while it's easy to forge them, there is always the possibility that I do have a virus and need to do something about it. [Gimp-user] Programme won't start
I've just upgraded to the latest version of GIMP and everything seems to go OK. When I opened up the programme the first time it was clearly opening up the new version and asked if I want to upgrade or re-install. I chose upgrade (well, I had a choice of two things and had to pick one!) and now when I click to open up the programme it starts but does not complete. It then just disappears and leaves me with nothing!! So ... what's the problem ... and what to do to get this programme up and running again? I chose upgrade (well, I had a choice of two things and had to pick one!) and now when I click to open up the programme it starts but does not complete. It then just disappears and leaves me with nothing!! another good question is which version of gimp did you have and which version are you updating to? So ... what's the problem ... and what to do to get this programme up and running again? a quick solution that might work on any os and any variety of it is to move your user directory out of the way. either change the name: mv .gimp-2.0 .gimp-2.0-old or remove it entirely rm -rf .gimp-2.0/* or whatever version you used to have. and to be on the safe side, remove the new one it made also -- once again, you will need to know the version numbers to determine the name of the files i mentioned. carol ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.xcf.berkeley.edu http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Move away the .gimp-2.2 folder in your Home directory (rename it, we might want to have a look at it later...). Then start gimp again. It should do a clean user install then. If that works for you, it would be nice if you could report back. Perhaps we can find out what had gone wrong and fix the problem.
