Re: [Gimp-user] GIMP won't support installed printer?

2007-02-23 Thread Jim Lynch

I also have had a problem printing from Gimp. I attempted to print an image
and for my efforts I received a floor full of paper, some completely blank,
others with a line of garbage at the top of the page. I printed the same
image by displaying it in firefox and used its print feature.

I never investigated it any further since I did get my picture, but I
suspect someday I'll want to print directly from gimp so I'm very interested
in following this thread.

GIMP Users,

I don't quite understand how printer support in GIMP/Gutenprint is
handled.

I have my Canon Pixus iP3100 printer installed and working fin with Linux.

However, that particular model is not listed in the list of supported
printers within GIMP.

I'll have to try again. Since then I've changed from SuSE to Centos for
other reasons.

Hi,

it would help a lot of you would tell us what Print plug-in you are
using. If things don't work, the reason might be that you are using the
old gimp-print plug-in, while you should nowadays be using the GIMP
plug-in that comes with gutenprint 5.0.

If you have questions regarding the gutenprint plug-in, please ask them
on the gutenprint mailing-list.

Re: [Gimp-user] Problem with patterns

2005-11-01 Thread Jim Lynch
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/patterns
/home/jwl/.gimp-2.2/patterns

The former is where I'm trying to add the pattern.
No -s on this directory.
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2005-11-01 07:57 .

I also attempted to add the file to the .gimp... directory but it still
isn't showing up. I can open the file in gimp and it seems to
show up just fine. I compared it to a good pattern and except for
the dimensions it's equivalent as far as I can see.

When I'm in the pattern screen, and click on a pattern, there is a
short description of the pattern displayed, but I can't find any way to
see that description when I'm editing a pattern in gimp. Is it
possible my converted jpeg image doesn't have that dispaly info in it
and that's why it isn't showing up?

Thanks,

I found it. The images are ordered alphabetically by the
comment. I didnt realize I had left the default comment of Gimp
pattern in the image when I saved it.

Sorry for the confusion.

run gimp as root at all.if you want the file to be used by everyone onyour computer (if there is only one, it should be sufficient to save inyour user directory) it is easier and better to move the file as root
from the commandline.especially after the image is working in a userdirectory.i give that second advice (about not running things as root too often)not from experience but from the advice that the people writing the

the gimp patterns are (if i remember correctly) a special case of png.and since gimp2, png can be viewed as a pattern in that dialog as well.carol

[Gimp-user] Newbie needs direction wrt replacing text with grass

2005-09-26 Thread Jim Lynch
No, not MJ. I have a nice picture I'd like to print and frame but
it has the stupid date/time string in yellow in the corner. I
have subsequenly turned off the date stamp so that won't happen
again. Fortunately, maybe, the stamp is in a field of nice green
grass, so I was hoping somehow I could replace the solid color (yellow)
of the stamp with something that looks like grass. Any
suggestions on how I might go about that? I've used gimp for
simple things, like brightness, contrast, and cropping but replacing
colors and doing things with layers is beyond me at this time.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Jim.

OK, OK, I'm convinced. The first time I read clone I
thought it was a way to work on a copy of the original so I
didn't screw it up. Now I get the message. It only
takes about 5 swings of the 2x4 to get my attention. Thanks to
all. I've learned something . While this isn't perfect I
don't think the casual observer will notice. Since this is
my first cloning experiment, I'm satisfied with the results. If
anyone wants to see the results, check out

Thanks for the help.

if i read your question correctly, this is a job for the clone tool.you give the clone tool a brush and ctl click on some of the grass nearto the area you wish to cover and make certain that Aligned is toggled
in the Tool Options.carol
