If you unchecked the save background, it should have been fine. Which means your problem is probably not in GIMP but rather with using a browser that isnt fully alpha-in-png compatible. Also be specific about things like what distro you use, what gimp version, what OS (win, mac, linux). If we can't answer it, maybe I can track down someone who can. As for outdated stuff.. The web page is in the process of being redone. It will appear.. eventually. It seems that the first thing to do is to upgrade to 1.2.3. It may be that something is broken in 1.2.2, but 1.2.3 is out now. If an upgrade to 1.2.3 doesn't fix it, please post to this list again and post a bug to bugzilla. 1.2.3 is available at ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v1.2/v1.2.3/ and should be a pretty easy install.
