Actually I haven't used GIMP much lately and don't even remember when I last compiled from CVS. But.. could you please check bugzilla.gnome.org in the GIMP module for similar bug reports? A crash is a pretty serious bug so you should report it if you can reproduce it. If you need more help writing a bug report, please let me know. I believe that the magic wand will select a 'color range', which can and will include a range of colors. If you select and move your mouse while holding the button, the selected area will grow/shrink as it widens/narrows the range. I just tested this as follows: create an image, Fill this area with a gradient. Select roughly the center of the gradient, but hold the mouse button down and move your mouse north/south or east/west. As you do, you'll see the selected area grow/shrink. > > -- > --Jeff > > Jeff Trefftzs <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > http://www.tcsn.net/trefftzsHome Page > http://gug.sunsite.dk/gallery.php?artist=68 Gimp Gallery > http://trefftzs.topcities.com/home.html Photo galleries > > ___ > Gimp-user mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user -- Until later: Geoffrey [EMAIL PROTECTED] "...the system (Microsoft passport) carries significant risks to users that are not made adequately clear in the technical documentation available." - David P. There is another answer of course --- a moderated list. I don't know if our community is big enough to support this burden. [Gimp-user] text along a curve

GIMP doesn't do this easily. A much simpler solution is to use a vector tool, export to PS and then import the file to GIMP. There are two tools that can probably do this for you. The first is Sketch. I believe there is a plug-in for that tool that can do text along a curve (or some kind of curved text). Another option is StarDraw (or whatever it's called). Both the 5.2 and 6.0 versions have a tool called FontWork which will do text along a curve. 5.2 is a little more stable than 6.0, but 6.0 is pretty nice too. Once you save (or print) to a postscript file, you should be able to import it to GIMP. From there you can select, copy, and paste it into any other Canvas window you happen to be working in. Re: [Gimp-user] creating a circled area in an image
I'm pretty sure that you can use Gimp:Perl to access image data and perform small tasks. I've not done it yet, but yes, something of this nature seems entirely possible. Re: [Gimp-user] text along a curve
There is also a script to place text along a path. /Script-Fu/Render/Text along path ... but even its creator acknowledges its weaknesses. It tries to place each character separately, rotated to follow the tangent to the path at that point (well, actually rotated to the normal to the tangent, but you get the idea). The script needs to be tweaked to use SF-FONT instead of a font file name to make it work more easily on Linux systems. -- --Jeff Jeff Trefftzs <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.tcsn.net/trefftzsHome Page http://gug.sunsite.dk/gallery.php?artist=68 Gimp Gallery http://trefftzs.topcities.com/home.html Photo galleries ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Re: creating a circled area in an image
Thanks for the suggestions. I want to circle the area automatically though. I need to write a script that will determine the area that I want to circle given a range of colors, and then draw a circle around that area. I'll take a look at the magic wand tool and at Gimp:Perl to see how I can use them to write the script. I figured I would draw a circle around the area that I want to ask the user about. The line *could* be drawn around the circumference of the area (an irregular shape), but I thought it would be easier to draw a circle that encloses the entire area. It doesn't matter if a bit of the blue is cut off - the intent is just to focus the user's attention.
