[gitorious] Gitorious 3.0 Manual Install

2014-03-27 Thread Jonathan Katon
I am installing gitorious 3.0 on a RHEL 6.4 server which is running other web
applications and also my folder structure is slightly different than what the
install expects. Because of this I cannot use the installer.

I need to install this manually but I cannot find any instructions. I am fairly
comfortable with ruby on rails applications having developed and installed
several others.

Can someone provide a generalized set of things I need to setup and configure?

So far I have the following

1) gitorious-mainline downloaded
2) My httpd.conf file configured
3) The databases created and migrated
4) a sudo bundle install and bundle install performed
5) I did a yum install sphinx which gave me 2.0.8
6) A server user called gitprod created that will be the gitorious user
7) I've gone through the gitorious/config/gitorious.yml file and configured
most of the settings in there.

Can someone let me know what other steps I need to perform. Do I need to do
something to start sphinx? Do I need to run any of the script files included in
the gitorious bin, or script folders?

I am somewhat familiar with Gitorious 2.x. In beginning of 2013 I got that
installed and functioning on a RHEL 5.9 server. It was painful but I figured it
out. From that I know there were 4-5 services that had to be setup in the
background and I'm not sure if any of that exists in the updated 3.0 version.

I more than appreciate anyones help. If I get help and I can get this
functioning I will write up a detailed explanation of how I installed it to
share with the community unless this already exists and I just couldnt find it.

Thank You

Jonathan

[gitorious] Date abbreviation: Dev for December

2013-12-02 Thread Jonathan Wakely
In the Source Code tab the abbreviation for December seems to be Dev

e.g. at https://gitorious.org/tldd/tldd/source/master: the file COPYING is
dated Dev 2 2013

I probably should have just fixed it rather than posting it here.

My user *did* have the full OpenID identifier in my account settings, I edited
to remove the ?id=x part in order to test whether that allowed me to login
using it. So now I only have the shorter URL in my settings.

Bapabooiee has an empty OpenID URL right now. The only way to assign the

google one to the existing account would be to sign up for the new

account with google discovery URL, then copy/backup the resulting URL

from user settings page, delete this new account, and paste the copied

URL in the OpenID field of the original user's settings page. That's a

 workaround for now.

Won't we also have to enter the full identifier into the login page? Because
my account did have an identifier, and still didn't work.

This works! So I can login again with OpenID, thanks!

(I don't know why it didn't work previously, when I did have a full identifier
URL in my settings ... maybe the identifier changed?!)

We have recently made few fixes to the OpenID code/configuration on
gitorious.org. Are you still experiencing this odd behavior?

Yes.

I try to login with OpenID and it tells me to complete my registration. I
enter my email address and username and it tells me they are already taken.

Please fix this, I don't want to have to use a username/password.

Great - thanks. It occurs to me that the email address I have registered with
my user account is one at my own domain, so is not the gmail address that is
associated with the OpenID URL for my Google account. Could that be the
problem? Is it expecting my account to have the same email address as my
OpenID identity?

[gitorious] Re: Login support for using Google as your OpenID provider?

2013-09-19 Thread Jonathan Wakely
I used to always login to gitorious.org using the OpenID URL linked to my
Google account, but recently when I tried it told me to finalize my
account and asked me to register. That's odd, as I've had an account for
nearly two years (https://gitorious.org/~jwakely) and have always used
OpenID without problems before.

In order to login I had to enter my username and reset my password, and to
login I now have to use that password.

Why did my OpenID login stop working and how can I go back to using OpenID
instead of having to use a password?

[gitorious] branch specific access problems

2012-12-11 Thread Jonathan
This is an odd one...
Pulling any branch from any repository from a computer inside the
gitorious' server's LAN works.
On any remote computer (not on the same LAN as the gitorious server),
pulling master from any repository works, but pulling any other branch does
not.
I know gitorious (thankfully) does not support branch specific permissions.
Also the fact that within the LAN all the branches work must indicate
something... what could it possibly be?!

[gitorious] fatal error while accessing remotely

2012-12-10 Thread Jonathan
I just installed a new gitorious server. From inside the LAN I'm able to
pull\push without a problem. However from outside the LAN I get:

== Gitorious: ==
 fatal error

fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

I found the following error in `gitorious_auth.log`:

FATAL -- : NoMethodError private method `gsub!' called for nil:NilClass:
 /opt/bitnami/apps/gitorious/htdocs/script/../lib/gitorious/ssh/client.rb:34:in

 `initialize'

What does it mean and how can I fix it? How come it occurs only from remote
access?
