[OT] Internet Network Neutrality and NH
As someone who sees distinct political realities in the free software world, the issue of Internet net neutrality may be of concern to many of the readers of this list. If you're interested in the topic, the web site http://www.savetheinternet.com/ has some good information on it, along with an interactive map to find out how certain Congresspeople -- including NH and Mass. -- stand on the issue. FWIW, . Randy -- It takes a village to raise a billionaire. Every worker and taxpayer deserves some credit for Forbes 400 wealth. Yet, while the Forbes 400 richest Americans are doing better this year (their collective wealth rose $45 billion since 2003), median household income fell for the fourth year in a row last year. -- Author Mike Lapham. ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss
RFC: Distros for Hosstraders
Hello world! As usually, I'll be bringing a collection of distros to Hosstraders, using the world's oldest protocol: Sneakernet. I'm already planning on bringing the following: - CentOS 4.3/4.2 (all official architectures minus s390) - Debian 3.1r1 (all official architectures minus s390 plus amd64) - Knoppix 4.0.2 - Knoppix AFU 3.7 - Knoppix Harv's Hamshack Hack 0.6a - Knoppix Games 3.7-0.2 - OpenCD 3.1 - [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2.8 - Ubuntu 5.10 I'm also going to try for the three big BSDs on i386, time and bandwidth permitting. Suggestions for other distros are welcomed, if you can provide a pointer to a torrent or a fast mirror, as well as a pointer to redistribution terms. I won't do anything that isn't freely redistributable and Open Source in its current release. Nothing personal against distros that restrict their current release, but this particular effort is about free bits. Are there any SuSE fans on this list? If so, can someone please explain to me the different SuSE releases and redistribution terms? Every time I look, they've changed things. -- Ben ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss
Re: RFC: Distros for Hosstraders
Just a thought, but considering that this is a bit of a geekfest, what about a couple of firewall type distros? Two that I know of off the top of my head: IPCop: http://ipcop.org/ (Linux based, web front end) m0n0wall: http://m0n0.ch/wall/ (FreeBSD based, web front end. Note, those are zeroes in the name, not ohs) I'm not sure if you'll have time to download m0n0wall .. it's a full 5.7MB download for the iso. ;) The ipcop iso is a little bigger, though still not *huge* at about 41MB. -- Cole Tuininga [EMAIL PROTECTED] Code Energy (http://www.code-energy.com/) ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss

I'd be happy to donate a set of Mandriva (formerly Mandrake) 2006 CDs (3 CDs in the set). This is the freely downloadable version. Rather than have you download it, I can just burn a set and postal mail it to you, if you'd like. Just let me know where to mail them. -- Dan Jenkins ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Rastech Inc., Bedford, NH, USA --- 1-603-206-9951 *** Technical Support for over a Quarter Century ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss

I've also had trouble getting good duplicates from burned CDs in the past. It's important that I can verify any image files against MD5/SHA1/etc from the original distributor, so I know we're handing out valid CDs. -- Ben ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss

Re: RFC: Distros for Hosstraders
I've got the last couple of Ubuntu 5.10 CD sets (1 live, 1 install) sent to me by the Ubuntu folks: 1 for the Mac, 4 for 64-bit PCs. I'll be glad to bring them to the booth to hand out. (If anyone on the list wants a set, speak up and I'll put a copy aside). On Apr 23, 2006, at 4:14 PM, Ben Scott wrote: Hello world! Re: RFC: Distros for Hosstraders
(1) As I discussed with Ted BLU-crew earlier -- TUX magazine donated several boxes of Linspire Five-Oh boxed CDs and Linspire intro books with CDs to BLU at the end of LinuxWorld. [They'd been giving them out in their upstairs tutorial room all week, and had oodles left.] We won't be able to give them all away at meetings and installfests before Linspire up-revs -- at least one might hope they could uprev before I could empty that many boxes at a few a month -- so I'll be bringing several boxes of same up to Hoss Traders to share with GNH-LUG, where they can be booth-bait and/or taken back to meetings as door-prize loot. Share the wealth! (2) There's recently been some buzz about putting GRUB on a DVD with multiple live CD ISOs, as an all-in-one demo. Neat idea. Instructions are in spanish, but the How-to screenshots are iirc english, pretty clear. (3) Ubuntu 6.0[46] Flight 6 Live is a nice sample at this point. (4) DSL on pocket/card CDs is sometimes popular. -- Bill[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you prefer rsync, this one's quite speedy, when you can get in: carroll.cac.psu.edu::MandrivaLinux/official/iso/2006.0/i586/ I find I can get access about 80% of the time; it can be hit-or-miss during prime time (early evenings and weekend afternoons), though. -- Bill Mullen RLU #270075 ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss
