The last Fedora 3 I burned with your ISO's :)

> nice -10 cdrecord dev=0,0 -v -date ./image.iso

Not a far from what you are using there. The biggest
mistake I made was not checking the magic numbers
before assuming it was a good burn. I ran the media
check on the machine I intended to install them on
they checked out fine. Installed fine on 2-3 machines.

Re: cd burning question

2005-06-20 Thread Jason Stephenson
It has been a while since I last used cdrecord, but FWIW, I don't see
any errors in the output that you provided. It looks like a clean burn.

I've been having some issues on a different OS with different burning
software using CD-RW discs. The odd thing is that if I mount the iso and
the burned CD, all the files appear to be there and they have the same
size...

It's hit or miss, too, depending on the disc and the amount of data
being written.

I think FreeBSD's burncd command may have a problem with the rings that
keep getting bigger on CD-RWs as you blank and rewrite them.

Oh well, I guess that wasn't very helpful. ;)

I expect you know this, but: Unless you install every package, it is likely
a bad disc will still "work". Even then, there may be obscure failures that
don't matter for most cases.

# nice -17 cdrecord -v -speed=16 -dev2,0,0 -data FC4-i386-disc1.iso

  You might try adding "-dao".

FYI: If run with root privs, cdrecord will automatically attempt to give
itself the highest possible priorities (including "real time" priorities
beyond standard Unix "nice" levels), so the "nice -17" is redundant.

Good point. Yes, I *always* do this. I'm kindof paranoid that way.

Just to be clear, I belive that you meant "-data" there.

No, I'm pretty sure he meant -date. That's the datestamp flag, which
is used to set the expiration date of the ISO. Without it, your CD
would never expire, and you'd never remember to download the new ISOs!

Maybe I owe Ben a beer. I just got my first success *ever* with the
Fedora media check when I burned the CD with this option.

Thanks, Ben!
