Re: SLUG meeting tonight at 7pm Topic: Asterisk PBX

2006-02-14 Thread Cole Tuininga

Wow - I have to say that IMHO, that was a great meeting on a very
interesting topic. I knew that Asterisk was supposed to be pretty
versatile, but I had no idea to what extent that was true.

Many thanks to Mike and everybody who put the meeting together.

Oh - and many thanks for the advanced warning this month - that was a
great help!

I had hoped to make the meeting, but family matters came up. Can
anyone post a summary of what went on? Asterisk really sounds like an
interesting piece of software...

It is *definitely* that. It was a very cool presentation. M.
Thomas and company did an excellent job showing off many cool
features. He had said that his slides and some other information
would be posted on the web after the meeting; I've looking forward to
that.

I, also, would like to give props to M. Anderson for getting the
announcement out ahead of time. I would hate to have missed this one!

I have some notes and memories from the meeting that I will try and
type up when I get a chance.

SLUG meeting tonight at 7pm Topic: Asterisk PBX

2006-02-13 Thread Robert E. Anderson

Who: Mike Thomas of Computer Associates

What: Will demonstrate how to setup a Home PBX using [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When: Monday, February 13 at 7:00pm

Where: Morse Hall Conference room 301

Have you ever wanted to be able to control your home phones as well as
you can control your email?

By using a PBX at home you can. [EMAIL PROTECTED] runs on Linux and
gives you control over how your incoming calls are handled. In order
to get calls from the Normal Telephone system you need a PTSN
service. Mike has recently signed up with a service from
http://www.telasip.com;, their rates start at $6/month.

Come find out more information and see live demonstrations of Voice
Over IP connecting to an [EMAIL PROTECTED] PBX.
