Indeed.

The most likely culprit is the wrong version of intltool Lars might be
using (can I guess at 0.34.0?) -- it would be good if Lars updated to
latest intltool version.

If not, Lars, can you please get in touch with me personally so we can

updated "welcome to evolution" message in cvs

2006-02-28 Thread Andre Klapper
dear translators,

for gnome 2.14, the evolution team has updated the "welcome to
evolution" message that every new evolution user has in his/her inbox by
default.

it is located at evolution/mail/default/C/Inbox in cvs and translated by
creating a copy of it to the directory evolution/mail/default/$LOCALE
and adding the locale to the file evolution/mail/default/Makefile.am.

changes:
- first paragraph: addition of "and memos"
- added an outcommented sentence in the html part which provides a link
to the (not yet existing) FAQ - i included this sentence so we can
remove the comment tags when the FAQ will be available (hopefully
  soon)
- obviously the "new features" list ;-)

many thanks,
andre

PS: if anyone has an idea how to include those strings into the .po
files, please feel encouraged to comment on bug 206066.

> Fedora has Dejavu 2.3 (latest) in their repository.

And if I may chirp in the DejaVu in Fedora Extras is rebuilt from sfd sources -
it's not the upstream binary dump.

While I appreciate all the new font projects none of them so far (with the
exception of junicode - I may pull it in FE just to reward this) is making any
effort to free the whole font ecosystem. So as Luxi & Vera showed the fonts may
be free to use but good luck if you need a glyph not included by the original
author. Even if the license did permit modifications (usually they don't) you
don't have the same technical access as the author (unless he tells you what
expensive closed windows tool to buy).

With DejaVu anyone can ask a glyph, contribute it himself if he's in a hurry (or
if it's a low priority glyph for everyone else) or even fork DejaVu for his own
private uses. For example, if your country is defining a new currency symbol you
don't have to wait years for Bitsream to notice it.

For this reason alone FOSS project should push DejaVu over any other project
which didn't bother building a contribution ecosystem. The situation is no
longer the same it was some years ago. We don't have to beg and accept "somewhat
free" anymore

Sound Juicer

2006-02-28 Thread Ross Burton
Hi,

This morning I committed a change to SJ that changes a set of translated
strings from "Sample Artist", etc to real data. I marked these as
translatable but I only expect them to be translated if the translation
is for a country that has never heard of The Beatles (this is documented
in the code comments).

Hopefully this is okay and I haven't upset the release team/i18n team
too much. If I have, I can revert the change.

We don't want to have them that way if we can avoid it. Only in the
case where this doesn't significantly hurt the UI appearance in a
translated desktop, we *may* consider and/or suggest it.

I don't think so. AFAIK Dia _is_ part of GNOME Desktop but as a GNOME Office
Effort module (correct me if I'm wrong). Also AFAIK, Dia and other GNOME
Office modules do not necessarily follow GNOME release cycle and have their
own one.

Pipe-domains in PO files (gnome-games)

2006-02-28 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

Updating gnome-games PO file there is a dude about pipe-domain
translation. On gtk+'s PO file

  #: ../gdk/keyname-table.h:3940
  msgid "keyboard label|BackSpace"
  msgstr "BackSpace"

or
  #: ../gtk/gtkcalendar.c:1887
  msgid "calendar year format|%Y"
  msgstr "%Y"

translated strings shuldn't have 'pipe-domain' prefix.

but on gnome-games -> es.po file keeps pipe prefix:

  #: ../gataxx/properties.c:355
  msgid "gataxx|Easy"
  msgstr "gataxx|Fácil"

  #: ../gataxx/properties.c:356
  msgid "gataxx|Medium"
  msgstr "gataxx|Medio"

are they right? or translation should be like (without prefix):

  #: ../gataxx/properties.c:355
  msgid "gataxx|Easy"
  msgstr "Fácil"

  #: ../gataxx/properties.c:356
  msgid "gataxx|Medium"
  msgstr "Medio"

Thanks for catching all these: can you report them in Bugzilla using
"l10n" product and appropriate component?

Or, perhaps fix them for everyone instead? (that might be easier, but
if we don't make translators fix it themselves, they might make the
same mistake again in the future)

We're already two weeks in the string freeze, and I feel this is not
urgent enough to warrant a freeze break.

Note that any string removal is NOT subject to freeze restrictions.

Check that your system is using xkeyboard-config (or similarly named
