Ah, that's out of my autofoo expertise. Anybody willing to
submit a patch? I opened this bug for it:

It seems vte doesn't use intltool. gucharmap does, though.

release notes: Problems preparing screenshots

2006-03-12 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan
I've been close to finishing Thai translation for the release notes.
However, I have some problems preparing localized screenshots,
and would like to ask for suggestions in setting up.

deskbar
- "Web search" and "Web" sections do not appear in the result.
- Dictionary lookup action does not appear.

gnome-screensaver and fast user switching
- There is no "Switch User..." button in the unlock dialog

evolution
- Any Hula calendar for GNOME timelines available?

epiphany
- The "Use custom stylesheet" option is missing from the
  preferences dialog.
  (It's gnome-2-14 branch of epiphany.)

I'm using GNOME CVS, built with jhbuild.

Thanks,
-Thep.

For Thai, there is no certain one-line phrase.
Different programs use different phrases, depending on
what typographic features they want to emphasize, such
as glyph characteristic elements, shaping, and so on.

In fact, I've been doing a rough consensus for the phrase
to use in GNOME translation, too. The desired phrase
should show both glyph shapes and shaping features,
to demonstrate Pango capabilities while representing
the characteristics of the font at the same time.

The most recent, but not final, proposal is:

วิญญูมุ่งรู้พิฆาตปื้นขี้ฝุ่นเลษฏุ

It's not so good in terms of language beauty,
but it just demonstrates typographic features well.

Note that simply listing alphabets is not enough
for Thai, because it has combining characters
to cover as well.

-Thep.

It's difficult in a tonal language. We have six tones for each vowel,
and have twelve vowels: 72 different vowels, plus nearly the usual
number of Roman alphabet consonants.

It would be possible, but long. I usually list the characters:

Yes, it's a string users are very unlikely to see (only if running an
application remotely), but unfortunately it showed up in the release
notes so those who want to translate the release notes need the string
marked for translation. And yes, it's basically just the word 'on'
that needs to be translated.

I agree this really sucks and it's my fault for not catching the
string not being marked for translation when I reviewed the patch that
added this string about 4 months ago; but unfortunately no one noticed
until today. I'll try to make the metacity release as close to the
deadline as possible so that translators have as much time to do the
translation as they can.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
