I believe the glossary could be a list of words in English with
maybe some explanation and suggested substitutes in the
target language. They could be shared by all translation
projects or they could be specific to each context (maybe
categories could be used for that).

I think a treeview could do that. User defined categories
could be implemented as different nodes in the same
treeview. What do you think?

I have to check poedit with more care, but how are TM data
created exactly?

These are translate-toolkit features. If the same word is
used in both source and target messages and if it is also
in the "Must translate" list, the filter issues a warning.

The same thing happens if the word is in the "Must not
translate list" and the word is not found in the target
string.

The "locations" string is the position in the source code
where the string actually is, like the first line in:

#: accels.c:123
msgid "C_urrent Profile..."
msgstr "Perfil _Atual..."

The locations tab gathers these comment (because they
can happen several times).

The actions tab is just an idea. Maybe some kind of a plugin
structure that could be turned on/off by special comments
for each translation unit, or even for the whole file.

Cheers,
Pedro.

Old GTP documentation

2007-08-17 Thread F Wolff
Hi list

I just realised that it is quite easy to get to very old GTP
documentation if one clicks on the developer section from the front page
of the GNOME website. The general GTP page there seems very outdated
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gtp/

Specifically, with a link to this page:
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gtp/resources.html
which still references CVS instructions and an array of other things
which I assume is equally out of date.

This seems to be the page with the correct links:
http://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject

Is it possible to update all links and find a way to fase out the old
documentation entirely? It will surely make it much easier for
newcomers.

Thanks
Friedel

Dasher branched for Gnome 2.20

2007-08-17 Thread Phil Cowans
Dear all,

The Dasher project in the subversion repository has now been branched
for Gnome 2.20, with the new branch tag being gnome-2-20. Please use
this branch for any changes which should make it into the release.

Feel free to check unstable patches into the trunk now the branch has
happened.

Thanks,

Phil

Re: gtk+ based translation tool

2007-08-17 Thread Sean Burke
One important thing to note is that an extra tab for plural form
won't be sufficient. There are a number of languages which either have
no plural form or which have a number of plural forms. As such, the
interface will have to read the Plural-Forms line of the PO in order to
know how many tabs to have there. The "nplurals" part should tell you
how many there are. Keep in mind that some languages may have a fairly
large number here: the Irish translation team is currently debating the
proper style of indicating plurals and may end up with six different forms.

String change in Evolution.

2007-08-17 Thread anand muttagi
Hi,
The patch committed replaces the wrong string in mail-notification
plugin of Evolution with the correct string.
i.e It replaces the string " Notifies the user with tray icon and a notify
message whenever a new message is arrived " to
" Notifies the user with a notification area and a notification message
whenever a new message has arrived " .

Work in progress (TM) and RCS-centric, but not too old I hope :)

Ehm, what exactly does "notify the user with a notification area mean" ?
