language but git hooks outputs this error and hangs the commit:

The release team defines the "GNOME Core" module set, it has
dependencies on modules not hosted on the GNOME infrastructure (what
was known as "external dependencies", see [1] for a tentative of

On top of that the marketing team defines a set of "featured apps".

There are also modules that are following the GNOME schedule, by

I believe your main priority should be to provide a translated
environment to your users, rather than strict adherence to a set of
modules, especially as we do not distribute GNOME by ourselves and
rely on distributors, they could, for example, replace Evolution by
Thunderbird.

aisleriot was split off gnome-games on April 10th, I don't know how it
was handled in damned lies, I don't know if it got many new strings
but certainly you can have a good chunk of them from gnome-games.

We could certainly work on making the jhbuild modulesets as the source
of module lists exposed on damned lies, as well as marking modules
deemed "important" by the marketing team, to facilitate their
identification.

Official GNOME module set

Hi,

I'd like to ask if there is any formal process to accept new modules to
official GNOME release sets (and to delete obsolete modules from there).

On gnome-i18n@, I was told by Claude Paroz that we had something like
that before but dropped it for some reason.

(Could you please point me either to the process description or to
motivation not to have any?)

I have concerns about lack of an officially approved list of release
modules. As a coordinator of one of local GNOME l10n teams with little
manpower, I need such list to better prioritize translation efforts. Of
course, our main priority should be an official release set coverage.

But as I can see, now the list is too dynamic to make assumptions about
release set contents. It seems like for l10n Damned Lies stats, we
populate release sets manually, periodically comparing jhbuild lists of
recommended modules with Damned Lies ones.

I find this situation very unusual and bad for such a big project as
GNOME. Let me give you an example.

Recently, Sep 18, 2011, 'aisleriot' module containing 527 messages was
(re-)added to official GNOME release set. Now my translation team is
forced to pay additional attention to these new 527 messages and revisit
the whole translation to be in line with requirements pushed for
official modules.

At that time, we already were in a deep string freeze stage, in 9 days
before 3.2 release. I find it not consistent to push developers not to
add several new strings in their modules but adding such huge modules to
official sets with no much of discussion.

Are there any plans to make official set population process more formal
and beforehand?

(I'm not subscribed to release-team@, so please put me or gnome-i18n@ in
CC when replying.)

Hi,
I think so.
And also hardcoding 3.8 version in message string is dumb too.
Translators will need to revisit it every time version number is changed.
And "Unknow" typo too.

Then, you need to change to the 'gnome-3-2' branch, with

git checkout --track origin/gnome-3-2

Finally, look into help/, create your ta/ subdirectory and place in there
the translation file.
You get the translation file from

Formerly, the release team had an acceptance process, but this has been
dropped in favour of... nothing clear :-(

There are still modulesets in jhbuild, but it is difficult to tell what
has some official status, and who is allowed to move modules around in
these modulesets. You should discuss this with the release team if you
want to push for something better.

I can't tell you if a string addition is possible, but that phrasing is
pretty awkward in English (and "account" is spelled incorrectly in one
place). I would suggest this instead:


"If you do not have a SIP or H323 account, ekiga can only be used on

require an account if you want to be accessible to people on the
Internet. Many web sites allow you to create an account. We suggest
that you use a free ekiga.net account, which allows you to be joined by

nautilus-sendto branch for 3.2 is gnome-3-0, not master

Hi, it seems there was a little error on l10n.gnome.org. Basically
l10n.g.o was targeting nautilus-sendto master branch for GNOME 3.2,
while there is no planned new release of nautilus-sendto (from master,
of course) and the proper branch is gnome-3-0.

So, if you have to check or update your nautilus-sendto translation,
please refer to gnome-3-0 branch, in the hope maintainers will made a
new release.

l10n.g.g was fixes and currently points to correct branch.

that you translate (git clone, edit the po file and add your language to
DOC_LINGUAS in /help/Makefile.am, git commit, git push).
If you don't have "git push" permissions attach your translation to

person with git permissions in your team can upload it to the git server
for you.

Don't know about the Mac OS situation. You might be right, but I prefer
to not change strings anymore if not really needed... :)

String additions to 'gnome-control-center.gnome-3-2'

[GNOME Status Pages]

This is an automatic notification from status generation scripts on:
http://l10n.gnome.org.

There have been following string additions to module 
'gnome-control-center.gnome-3-2':

+ "Bluetooth Settings"
+ "No tablet detected"
+ "Please plug in or turn on your Wacom tablet"

Note that this doesn't directly indicate a string freeze break, but it
might be worth investigating.
