The issue is that gnome-software no longer has a `master` branch.
Damned lies needs to be configured to use the `main` branch instead.
It's possible that such modification has been done, but some cached

This is the wrong question to ask. You want to write "I'd like to
request a string freeze exception to backport $MR to the GNOME 40
branch." and then a paragraph explaining the bug it fixes and the
strings added.

If the exception isn't granted, you can then discuss alternatives.

I'm still around, though as you noticed not in translation. I'm
planning to do some translation work after GNOME 40.beta is released,
so I can review and commit your translation.

If you're interested in contributing long-term, I'm happy to let you

Re: Access to GitLab

2020-08-07 Thread Abderrahim Kitouni via gnome-i18n
Hello Danial,

only the language team coordinatior (in your case Arash Mousavi) can
have git access, not other team members (not even committers). If the
coordinator can't commit a new translation for some reason, you can
post a link to it here and another team coordinator can commit it for
you. (Then you can commit updates directly from damned lies).

Regarding access to the issues, you don't need a GNOME git account for
that. Just someone with the appropriate privileges to add you (someone
listed as owner in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/groups/Teams/Translation/-/group_members). I
don't know how this works though (whether the approval of the language
coordinator is required or not).

In the first case you're using the anonymous git:// protocol, so it didn't
use your account at all. In the second you're using ssh, and your key isn't
recognised.

On https://gitlab.gnome.org/users/sign_in I can only sign in using the

> or gitlab.gnome account user name and password).
>

If this is working, I suggest you push using https. Just use

git clone https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gthumb.git

And when pushing, you'll be asked for your username and password. It may be
annoying that you have to enter your password every time you push, but if
you aren't pushing often, it shouldn't be a problem.

Both commands 'ssh -v myn...@git.gnome.org'

and 'ssh -v myn...@gitlab.gnome.org' give me terminal output Permission
> denied.

When pushing with ssh, everybody pushes as the git user, you don't need
your username.

One of the reasons may be that my user name is different on git,

The user.name config should be set to your full name, it doesn't affect
authentication at all.

I always wanted to write something like this. Thank you very much.

I just found the time to test this, I really like it. There are however a

I'm not sure this is the best place to discuss this, should I open a bug
about this?

Still I agree with Andre: logging the user out is the best way for them
to lose their work. If gnome-shell crashes, which is AFAICT the most
common reason for this to appear, then I'd rather have the option to
restart the shell without extensions (or maybe start the fallback mode)
rather than losing my work.

Just my 2 cents.

This looks wrong to me, you're essentially not using ngettext plural

10 days... I wouldn't call that a while. Anyway, thanks for updating (or
rather adding) the translation.

Seriously, I don't quite see the usefulness of translating clutter at
all: at ~570 strings, and it seems like all the strings for translation
are GObject property names and descriptions, and I don't see why they
would be translated. AFAICT, they would only appear in a debugger, so
they are more or less as useful as schema strings, and shouldn't be in
the reduced PO files. Agreed they aren't as easy to spot as schema
strings, but are annoying nevertheless (and sometimes hard to
translate).

What do other translators think of this?

Thanks and regards,

Using vertimus/damned lies for non-gnome translation

2012-01-28 Thread Abderrahim Kitouni
Hi all,

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this, please direct me to
the correct place if it isn't.

After trying to attract new contributors for the gnome 3.2 and kde 4.8
releases, using damned lies for the former and plain email for the
latter. It was way easier for us to track contributions on gnome, and we
really liked the workflow interface on damned lies, and we'd like to be
able to use the same workflow for kde (and perhaps other projects in the
future).

ISTR that the workflow management was based on vertimus, a tool that was
used by the French translation team. Searching for that, I found this
page https://launchpad.net/vertimus with a big warning that the software
is unmaintained and has been merged into damned lies.

That sounds nice, but not for my use case. I nevertheless tried to see
if it is possible to use only the vertimus app rather than the full site
and it seems to be impossible as it relies on many things from the rest
of damned lies. So I tried to get the latest released standalone version
(written in PHP) to try it on my machine.

It seems to work OK (we may need to redo the theme to make it like the
rest of the site), but I'd like to get opinions on using it. e.g. What
version to use? What's the state of the code there? Were there
improvements or bug fixes over the latest released version? (I couldn't
clone the bzr repository).

And of course any comments on the way other teams are doing for other
projects are welcome.

TIA,
Abderrahim

New coordinator for the Arabic translation team

2011-04-10 Thread Abderrahim Kitouni
Hello everyone,

Due to personal reasons, Khaled Hosny cannot continue as a coordinator
for the Arabic team. We decided that I will take this position.

I haven't contributed much translations myself (only a couple updates to
gedit and evolution), but I'm more of a "regular" GNOME contributor
(Anjuta mainly, but also Vala, GNOME-Shell, and a couple patches here
and there, and I already have a git account).

And last but not least, I'd like to thank Khaled for his efforts
translating GNOME almost alone, and hope I can do a better job (yeah,
that's too optimistic).

Cheers,
