Please make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists. ” To be on the safe side - I archived the actions and started again. Again the same mistake. Can someone fix the gnome-desktop pre-commit hook?
While trying to submit the Bulgarian translation of gnome-desktop via Vertimus I get: An error occurred during applying your action: The commit failed. The error was: “[Errno 1] Command: "['git', 'commit', '-m', 'Update Bulgarian translation', '--author', 'Alexander Shopov ']", Error: hint: The '.git/hooks/pre-commit' hook was ignored because it's not set as executable. hint: You can disable this warning with `git config advice.ignoredHook false`. ” After this the translation is not committed to the repo. Yeah - what I did is wait 8h, archive the actions and then resubmit. It worked this time. This is solved. The reason for the problem is in the origin remote. Merging updated Nautilus translation
Hi all, I have updated the Nautilus translation and wanted to merge it. However former git remote is no longer there: There is nothing in git.gnome.org/git/nautilus git.gnome.org/nautilus forwards to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/ I suppose nautilus has migrated to Gitlab installation. How can I merge the translation? I've setup an account there, added my public key, set up password, added 2FA, renamed my username to the one at git.gnome.org but I cannot push to the repo. Unless the plural is very different from the singular I do not do this as the list updates on every key press. Thus if the singular and plural differ after the 4th or later character - there is no practical reason to do this. In Bulgarian (Indo-European South Slavic language written in Cyrillic) irregular plural are very, very, very rare. For example for "Person" I would use „Човек/Хора“ (Person/People) as these are sufficiently different. „Човек“ has a normal similar plural „Човеци“ (Persons), but it would not be used in this context. Hi everyone, po-files contain info coming from the .desktop file that is used to start the application. For example the gnome-control-center contains: #. Translators: those are keywords for the sound control-center panel #: ../panels/sound/data/gnome-sound-panel.desktop.in.in.h:4 msgid "Card;Microphone;Volume;Fade;Balance;Bluetooth;Headset;Audio;" Do I need to add the original English terms to the translated keywords in Bulgarian in order to allow the user when using Bulgarian locale to also be able to search using terms in English? Are English originals included in search by default or do I need to add them by hand? Warnings and notifications on adding and removing modules
Hello everyone, Currently whenever a developer commits a change in a module in the main GNOME moduleset we get a warning via this mailing list. This is extremely useful: - This keeps the string freezes and prevents excessive breaks; - This immediately informs translation teams. Can we please have similar *automated* system for the list of modules in the moduleset? This will be of immense help to everyone and especially translators: - This will provide list and backlog of what modules are in the moduleset, what are no longer there, how long were they there, when they entered and when they left. - Adding a module is in fact a string break as far as translators are concerned - there are new strings to translate and modules to test. - Removing a module lowers it priority when translating, teams should be well aware of that and prioritize their resources. Janitorial tasks
I will be doing some cleanups on Bulgarian translations. I notice that sometimes I have committed translations with an executable flag - I will remove it. However - there are some instances where there are stale po directories that I believe should be deleted. As they are one or two, I will be placing bugs in Bugzilla for maintainers to fix. It is not sorted now - should someone fix this? 2. I want to add names in Cyrillic. For this: I start with the name in Cyrillic Then convert it in UTF-8 Then represent bytes outside ASCII hexadecimal Then I get the latin transliteration of the name and put it in N_() Then I put a comment with the cyrillic representation of the name Then I regenerate the po file and give there the proper Cyrillic representation. In this grand scheme - why on Earth do I need the hexadecimal representation of the name? I would prefer to do sth like this: Give the name in Cyrillic and then add in parentheses the ASCII version like: Александър Шопов (Alexander Shopov) and never use the N_() macro. Thus the other teams will not have to bang their heads on rocks trying to guess what should be the representation of my name in Hiragana (for example) (no string breaks) . (Or if Alan Cox suddenly decides to write his name in Welsh, I will not have the unbelievable time of my life trying to guess who is who). Disambiguating strings in gnome-games
Hi, There are strings that get reused in different contexts in gnome-games but since there is no gender in English - such adjectives like Hard, Middle, Easy and similar are impossible to translate in a single way to Bulgarian (and I suppose all similar languages with inflections). Can I commit directly disambiguating strings (I will add |-domains to the original strings). This will lead to the appearance of new fuzzy strings that will be easy to fix for the rest of the teams. I did like the old progress pages better, you know...
Happy new year and to many new years for all those using the Gregorian calendar. For the rest - sorry - the world discriminates against you ;-) Anyway - the new progress pages are definitely funkier, have more information but I find them more difficult to use. Maybe it is my age showing, maybe the typographic fatigue, but still... I really liked the tabular layout - without any indents to show dependencies and similar, I liked the lines around the boxes - it just makes things easier to read. Including the stats for the documentation is a good thing (we definitely missed that) but having the info on both docs and UI on a single page is kind of superfluous for me (in my workflow I either commit UI or docs, very seldom both). Could we have the tabular view back please? And perhaps the font could be smaller so we can crank more info in a view? Changing Linux with GNU/Linux where necessary
Hi everybody, There has been some discussion in the Bulgarian Gnome translation team that there are a lot of instances in the interface and documentation of GNOME, where an OS with a Linux kernel is referred simply as Linux and not GNU/Linux. While there are several OS-es which can host GNOME, a Linux-kernel containing one is surely heavily using GNU userland, utils and build-chain. Still - the main purpose of using the term "GNU/Linux" will surely be educational and promotional. Should such cases be reported in Bugzilla? Should we have a placeholder bug for these cases? Are there any objections to this and will this raise lots of emotional outbreaks? The commit has not been made to the gnome-2-14 branch, just to HEAD. I wanted to inform people just in case builds broke due to my commit who would be to blame. Maybe I left you with the impression that I committed to gnome-2-14. Now - looking at the statistics page - I see that gnome-2-14 still lists HEAD as the branch for stable po's. It's picky about syntax, but it does the job well. ;) The pickyness of the TP Robot is livable. PITA but livable. It is the workflow that drives me mad. There is no way I can make a translation before a new version arrives, There is no way I can fix the mistakes I make without the relentless cooperation by the person using the robot. The Translation Project [1] is a much better fit, that Translation Project was specifically designed to host the translation effort for "offsite" projects, and it has a very large number of active translators. And some of those translators actively hate the TP robot and the general work flow in TP. If I had a hammer/rail-or-nailgun I would have certainly done something nasty and mutilating to the TP robot. Redistributing Fifth-toe/extras/office
Hi guys, There are many-many things to translate in those packages. When I look at some of them - the only commits of some of those modules are those of translators. Is it possible to think about some marking of modules as fresher/not-fresher? We could do this with stating - the time of the last string breakage for the whole software which will be of some service even outside the domain of telling the translators which modules to translate. Problem with gimp statistics for Bulgarian
Hi guys, If one takes a looks at: http://l10n-status.gnome.org/HEAD/bg/extras/index.html I see that the statistics for gimp are roughly zero for gimp, while they certainly are over 95% for most modules. Can this be fixed? BTW: maintaining the whole statistics is a demanding job, can I be of some help? Notes xslt transformation problem
Hi guys, I did translate the gnome 2.14 release notes. If you look here: http://www.gnome.org/start/2.14/notes/bg/index.html You will see that they transform just fine, but look at the second paragraph: The names of the sections contain the English phrases: === the section called === They should not contain them! I think - the XSLT transformation gets that I am using Bulgarian language (the quotes are the 9966 type - which is fine) - but there is sth wrong with the xslt transform. Lamish question on gnome-keyboard-properties
Hi guys, I am asking this question here as surely most people are using some kind of non-querty keyboard layout and have already tried the betas of gnome-keyboard-properties for gnome 2-14. Here goes my lamish question: I am testing gnome-keyboard-properties via Fedora Core 5 test 3. When you start it - and go to the third tab - Layout Options - the number of layout options has been reduced dramatically, and I believe several very important and often used options have been removed: 1. The way I change groups with the keyboard - curretnly the only way I change layouts in FC5T3 is via the mouse - irritating. 2. There is no way to make the Scroll Lock LED indicate the keyboard group - aggravating. 3. Meta key behaviour. 4. Control key position. Now - there have been many changes in FC5- the modular X, the betas of Gnome - so I would like to know 1. If this is a bug to be reported and fixed, is this behaviour just for FC? 2. I am sorry for cross posting, but I am going to ask things about the SVN access by translators. 1. Subversion is a definite upgrade and easiest thing to use for a CVS user - so first, I would like for the nice upgrade. 2. Will there be a new organization of the modules? - Are all the modules going to use a single repository? (I am not generally for, but some modules do belong together) - Will there be a change in the permissions we all have? (I do think that the system has worked up very nicely up till now, and no further restrictions on write access will be necessary). - In KDE's SVN repo - all po-files have been taken in separate directories. I am strongly against this practice as it discourages translators to look at the source code. 3. Will there be an alternative to plain http anonymous access? Proxy server - sucha as SQUID still do no support the whole plethora of WebDAV protocol commands and a checkout is impossible when behind a proxy (one could get things with wget - but the result is not a working copy). I guess the 80% number, which comes from string in the UI, should not be applied to these two. Location names are not *really* in the UI. And if you want to start a gnome-applets-location-HATERS' group - I am all for it. Locations-schmocations In Bulgaria we are already out of atlases and geographic maps to guess what some cites (and citlets, huts, small villages, military bases, jerk water in the nowhere, etc.) should be translated into. Not to speak of all the crative diacritics - this is a major test of the font rendering engine and glyph sets, is it not? Fixing a very,very,very broken ChangeLog in po-directory

I have made mistakes as well that is why I have fixed little mistakes that people do. However this is a *major* snafu. I am fixing the problem now but please - be more careful next time. While it is normal to do a big commit to a po-file - it is *not* normal to do a big commit to ChangeLogs. Watch those messages that you get when you commit. Further on - there have been a commit after the fuckup - and no one complained and no one fixed this. Either fix such problems or notify someone to step in and fix it. Incomprehensible gnome-doc-utils xsl transformations
Dear Shaun, Please write a *lot* more comments in the xsl files. Translators do not usually know how to make xsl templates. By looking at the files in the po directory, you will see how many, many, many mistakes there are in the po-files in almost all languages. I will also advice that all translatable things in the xsl file be either oneliners or full templates, *not* parts of templates.
