Display Settings section added to release-notes
Hi, translators, I just committed a section to the release notes about the Display Settings tool. The changes are one figure in release-notes/help/C/figures and a little text in release-notes/help/C/rnusers.xml. How can I update es.po? I'll gladly provide a translation to Spanish as well. String change in gtk-3-0 branch
Dear translators, I have just merged an interesting patchset to gtk+, in the gtk-3-0 branch. This adds two or three new strings to the package; I hope that doesn't cause too much trouble for you. GTK+ hackers: this is the merge of the bgo593793-filechooser-recent-folders branch, which is described in more detail here: http://people.gnome.org/~federico/news-2011-07.html#01 I'll backport this code to GTK+ 2.x so that apps which still use GTK+ 2 can get the goodness in the file chooser. gtk-2-24 has new strings
Dear translators, I've just pushed some changes to the file chooser in the gtk+ module, specifically to the gtk-2-24 branch. Although right now the focus is 3.x, we will likely have another release in the 2.24.x series for GTK+. Please update your translations there :) (The idea is to have the file chooser as similar as possible between 2.24.x and 3.x, so that even apps which still require GTK+ 2 will get all the goodness - and users will get consistent behavior.) String change in Nautilus
Dear translators, I just committed a small fix for an untranslated string in Nautilus. It's the "Reset" string in nautilus/src/nautilus-property-browser.c. I think no translation changes are necessary, because the same "Reset" string is used elsewhere. This fix went into the gnome-2-16 and trunk branches. i18n blocker for 2.18.0 in Sabayon: #397742
Dear release team and translators,
The bug in question is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397742
We have a blocker in Sabayon for GNOME 2.18.0. The problem is that
Sabayon wants to use the "xdg.DesktopEntry" module in Python to read
a .desktop file and extract a localized string, but this module is not
generally shipped by distributions (yet).
This is so that Sabayon can print "Calculator launcher" instead of just
"launcher" or "launcher: calculator.desktop".
I asked Sayamindu to make a patch which would use g_get_language_names()
from Glib to try to find the correct localized string in the .desktop
file, but this function is unfortunately not bound in pygtk yet. The
patch attached to the bug is not robust enough yet.
For now, I think the easiest solution is just to print the desktop file
name:
"calculator.desktop launcher"
The string we have is _("%s launcher"), which is already translated.
That is, we would use a lame filename instead of a nice human-readable
string, but that's the best we can do for 2.18.0 right now.
I'd like to know:
1. if the translators are OK with this
2. if the release team is OK with this change during the freeze period

So, after screwing the pooch once already :)
I'm requesting permission to apply the patch in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485922 to the gnome-2-20
branch of libgnomeui.
This patch does two things:
1. Makes error messages in GtkFileSystemGnomeVFS translatable. They
were not marked for translation, so any errors you got from the file
chooser ("permission denied") were not shown translated in the error
dialogs.
2. Fixes another bug with error reporting.
The patch is already in SVN trunk. May I commit it for the gnome-2-20
branch?

Freeze break request: string change in gnome-control-center
Hi,
We have this little bug:

Here, the Display capplet says "Mirror Screens" in a checkbox, but it
says "Cloned Output" in the widget to control the monitor positions.
Vincent suggested that we make the second string more consistent with
the first one, and then we can reduce the nerdy terminology as well.
I want to commit the attached patch, which simply changes "Cloned
Output" for the same "Mirror Screens". This would have the effect of
reusing the translations we already have for "Mirror Screens", and it
works well in English (or semi-well; "Mirrored Screens" may be better in
the canvas).
I'm not sure how well it works in other languages. At least es.po has a
suboptimal translation, as "Espejar pantallas" has a made-up word.
("Pantallas espejo" or even "Pantallas en espejo" would be better.)
Thoughts? :)

UI/string changes in gnome-control-center
Hi, translators and literati, I just committed some changes to gnome-control-center/capplets/display in trunk which change the look of the UI a bit. Great. This will need a little tutorial or document with a set of
guidelines, or people will just duplicate things all over the place

Would it be feasible to write an preprocessor that munges the XML at
compile-time into some mmap()able binary file? That way we'll avoid a
lot of memory bloat.

New string in gtk+ gtk-2-6 branch
Dear translators, To fix a bug in the gtk-2-6 branch of the gtk+ module, I've had to add a new string in gtk+/gtk/gtkfilechooserdefault.c. We want to do a 2.6.8 release this week, so it would be great if you could update your translations. Formatting a date/time string
Hi, Rick Stockton has been looking into adding a Time field to GtkFileChooser: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324543 Nautilus seems to use a plain "%c" format for strftime(), but that seems to produce really long strings. Is there a standard format string that we can use to produce a short representation of the date and time? Or should we just use %c and assume that the locale data will be acceptable to the user? libgnomeui branched to libgnomeui-2-14
Hi, I just branched libgnomeui for GNOME 2.14. 2.14 will use the libgnomeui-2-14 branch; it is anchored on the tag LIBGNOMEUI_2_14_BRANCHPOINT. I just updated the moduleset in jhbuild for this; make sure you update your jhbuild to get this info. Development goes on in HEAD as usual.
