Marcel, please assume the people will contact You the most common way, 
that is.. E-mail, I guess.
If You fail to communicate via the Mail, You probably cannot do much in 
the role of coordinator. People get the picture of You being 
unresponsive. You cannot help this otherwise than being responsive thru 
E-mail.

I'm sorry, I failed to proceed for SVN account. I'm quite busy last 
month and the process seemed too complicated to begin with.

There has been quite a nice period during the summer when I have had 
enough time and power to help the translations, and contributed the way 
that has been viable that time. Unfortunately, I don't plan to do any 
translations more until the end of year.

However, if necessarry to move things, I'd try to get the SVN account 
either way.

I don't object to helix84 either way. If he is willing to move on the 
coordinator's duties, let be it. We've been communicating today and he 
seems responsive so far :-)

I'm glad to see another contributor comming. Marcel Telka, the 
coordinator and so far the only member of the translation team, is 
extremely busy and unresponsive last summer. I'll try to get the SVN 
account soon, and then we could start working as team. I'll review and 
commit Your translations.


Please contact me with Your ideas of how do You wish to help the 
translation.

For me, it's a pretty mess. I'm at the stage that I need to get SVN 
account and start working with that, however it seems that things are 
rather getting complicated, than simple. I'm getting scared, and I don't 
even have an account so far!

Is there some human-readable article of what to do with SVN account and 
how to commit? Is there a way to make the whole process more 
straightforward and simple?


Moreover, I don't see many reasons, why should we bother with separate 
versions of translation. The program uses some phrases. Newer version of 
application should keep some compatibility with reasonable old previous 
versions. New strings? Why not. Let's put them to the translation. If 
the old application dosen't need the new strings, then it should just 
ignore them. I hope, that the possibility that the same string needs to 
be translated differently with different versions of application, is 
rare, and even should be avoided by just creating new, althought similar 
string.

sure. Some page like "New translator's basic howto"
-what software You should have
-what software You can choose between
-contact Your team here...
-if Your team dosen't exist, create one this way...
-select a project
-get the file
-if dosen't exist, grab the closest language and edit header fields...
-update against en-GB
-edit
-upload it here (link inbound)

and so on

I downloaded the files from GNOME 2.19 sources. Do You mean that they 
are simply based on old english files?

Is it possible to simply merge them into the new files and then just 
finalize them? I use Poedit -is there any better software for this case?

Sorry for asking these "simple things", but I didn't recieve any info 
about the translation process, so I just do it the way I explored 
myself.. Maybe there should be some more complex info for new 
translators somewhere near the "join the GNOME" site..

changes before a 0.12 stable release.

Well, Marcel haven't responded yet, since 18.5.2007. However, I see his 
post on this mailing list at 22.6.2007! Even the address seems correct. 
So I have sent him a mail again 25.7.2007, however no response so far.

I know there is still some time remaining until GNOME 2.20, so no reason 
for stress so far. I just posted the translations to give them "out of

SK Translation team not responding -what should I do

Hi folks,


I'm new here and I wish to help translating some parts of GNOME to 
Slovak (SK) language. Guided by the website, I contacted the team head 
and the only member, Marcel Telka.

It's been 10 days since I have written him an e-mail and he haven't 
responded. Maybe he will respond soon.

However, I'd like to see improvements in the 2.20 release of GNOME and 
I'm afraid to miss the appropriate time. Until when will the .po files 
be accepted for the release?

What should I do in the case that Marcel will not respond until the due 
date? Should I send the files somewhere?
