Basque team's new coordinator

2019-02-19 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

After spending several years translating and coordinating GNOME to Basque [eu]
language, resign time has come for me.

Let me introduce Asier Sarasola to you (I send a current mail copy to him). He
is used to translate some GNOME modules to Basque lang, as well as other free
software, so he does know how Gettext world works.

Asier will be the new GNOME Basque team coordinator, so could DL managers set
him as Basque Team coordinator for me?

It’s been a realy pleasure for me to be part of GNOME project.

Thanks and best regards to all, and best wishes to Asier in his new
“taskmaster" role :-)

Re: D-L does not commit translations for Basque language

2018-11-04 Thread dooteo
Hi Daniel,

Thanks for sharing your script. I’ve got my own scripts too to upload to Git.
Unfortunately, I lost access grant once GNOME was migrated to GitLab. I asked
for access permission, but sysadmin replied if safer to avoid translators to
access whole source code.

That’s why I’ve gotta upload by D-L.

Thanks and best regards,

Dooteo

Hi Rafael,

Mm… I see. First I have to reserve it to translate myself, then upload
translation, after set as “ready to submit” and finally “Send to repo”. It is
too many steps to make a simple upload and commit step.

I think there should be a faster way for commiters who are translating too.
Just another option: “upload and commit translation”

Could be it possible?

True, but not in production stage. Once something better is found, then
you can set it as standard for all and migrate from old to new one.

Same for Basque lang:

For example, gsettings-desktop-schemas module's UI should be appear as

Git weird behaviour

2016-09-17 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

I've got some problems not only to upload PO files to git.gnome.org,
but to download modules too, even if download process it's made as
anonymous user.

Git error when try to download as 'dooteo' user:

$ git clone ssh://doo...@git.gnome.org/git/gnome-backgrounds
Cloning into 'gnome-backgrounds'...
ssh: connect to host git.gnome.org port 22: Connection refused
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

Git errors when try to download as anonymous user:

$ git clone git://git.gnome.org/gtk+
Cloning into 'gtk+'...
fatal: unable to connect to git.gnome.org:
git.gnome.org[0: 184.180.132.209]: errno=Connection refused

$ git clone http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon
Cloning into 'gnome-settings-daemon'...
fatal: unable to access 'http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-dae
mon/': Failed to connect to git.gnome.org port 80: Connection refused

But few times it works, git just upload or download a module and it
won't work again for a long time...

I review my firewall, and it's disabled.

So, it's my local computer or it's Git server which has weird
behaviour?

Thanks and best regards,

Polari: Javascript Gettext placeholders

2016-09-16 Thread dooteo
Hi,

I'm not sure how to use placeholders at Polari's next message:

#. Translators: Those are a botname and an accountName, e.g.
#. "Save NickServ password for GNOME"
#: ../src/telepathyClient.js:569
#, fuzzy, javascript-format
msgid "Save %s password for %s?"
msgstr ""

As this message is for JavaScript, can I translate using '%2$s' like
placeholders, or is there any specific placeholder format for
JavaScript?

For example, are next placeholders okey for JS?

msgid "Save %s password for %s?"
msgstr "Gorde '%2$s' kontuko '%1$s'(e)n pasahitza?"

Variables placheholders comment

2011-03-28 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

There is a comment into gnome-packagekit which makes me doubt about my
faith in gettext.

Here is the comment:

#. TRANSLATOR: %i %s %i %s are %i minutes %i seconds
#. * Swap order with %2$s %2$i %1$s %1$i if needed
#. TRANSLATOR: %i %s %i %s are %i hours %i minutes
#. * Swap order with %2$s %2$i %1$s %1$i if needed

but, as far as I know, swap order (if translation needs) should be:

%4$s %3$i %2$s %1$i (which outputs such as 'seconds number minutes
number' message)

So, placeholders should be unique. Am I wrong?

Bright! It could be great when a new module is added to Damned-lies a
notify will be submitted to us (GNOME translators) in case it has some

Nautilus 2.22 and 2.24 Basque messages error fixed

2008-11-08 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

Last weeks some Ubuntu basque users discovered errors in Nautilus
_Basque_ 2.22 and 2.24 version. These errors were generated by wrong
translation in some messages.

This issue was weird for us because those errors were not appears in
Debian Lenny, so we not known which was the real reason: well, the
matter was that in Lenny even it has GNOME 2.22 it uses Nautilus 2.20,
where aren't those broken messages. Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 uses Nautilus
2.22 or newer...

One of the messages which gives error is:

#: ../libnautilus-private/nautilus-file-operations.c:2756
msgid Moving %'d file (in \%B\) to \%B\
msgid_plural Moving %'d files (in \%B\) to \%B\
msgstr[0] \%B\(e)ngo fitxategi %'d \%B\(e)ra eramaten
msgstr[1] \%B\(e)ngo %'d fitxategi \%B\(e)ra eramaten

Those errors were made by me: when they were translated gettext 'msgfmt'
command didn't give any kind of error or warning, so I thought they're OK.

Finally, I fixed those messages in GNOME 2.22, 2.24 and in 2.26
version , i.e.:

#: ../libnautilus-private/nautilus-file-operations.c:2753
msgid Moving %'d file (in \%B\) to \%B\
msgid_plural Moving %'d files (in \%B\) to \%B\
msgstr[0] Fitxategi %'d (\%B\(e)koa) \%B\(e)ra eramaten
msgstr[1] %'d fitxategi (\%B\(e)koak) \%B\(e)ra eramaten

From here, I've got beg your pardon for these big mistakes made by me and ask
to GNU/Linux distributors (Debian, Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora...) to use last
commited eu.po files.

Thanks and best regards,

Dooteo

Evolution HEAD: POT with 4991 messages instead of 5008

2008-09-18 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

I'd uploaded local svn for evolution. When I update any language (i.e.
eu) generated POT file contains only 4991 messages instead of 5008 that
appears in D-L. So I'm not able to update Basque translation for the new
messages (I see one way: download POT file from D-L, update eu.po file
and commit it... but not sure for do that!)

Any suggest?

Thanks and best regards,

Dooteo

The best way is perhaps to download the latest merged eu.po file from
the D-L page for your language [1] (using the download file link),
update the remaining 17 strings and commit it. As far as I know, the D-L
page shows the merged version of the latest language.po file in the
svn and the latest .pot file.

Okey, I'm going to do that so :)

Both evolution and gnome-control-center have syntax which requires more
recent intltool than version 0.37 available for example in ubuntu 8.04.

I've got Debian Lenny, and intltool version is 0.40, so I guest issue is
anywhere else.

I downloaded those PO files from D-L, and right now they're updated and
commited :)

GStreamer: what mean 'preroll'¿

2008-06-03 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

In GStreamer POT file, there are message with 'preroll' word.

In Spanish and French languages, they translate as 'prepare'. But
looking in web sites

http://www.gearwire.com/qa-cubasesx-recording.html#Q08

it looks that 'preroll' (and postroll) are special marks to select the
begin and end of a timeline, where is going to record a sound.

In other sites they explain (from video view) as:

http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=6631

That's the definition of a preroll, it rolls before the movie.

and I guest it could works for sound too... Unfortunatly i don't
understand 'it rolls before the movie' expression.

Can somebody explain me what it stands for? Or where to found a document
to understand it?

Thanks and best regards,

In GStreamer terminology this describes the process of preparing a
GStreamer pipeline for playback/recording. What happens is that
audio/video data starts flowing through the pipeline until all elements
have data (so that you could start actually playing/outputting the
 video/audio immediately).

I believe this terminology is only used in strings in developer tools
 such as gst-launch.

 That makes sense, I think.

more languages which have not entry into ALL_LINGUA.

Planner, wrong '% Complete' message fails msgfmt

2008-03-03 Thread dooteo
Hi,

On last planner POT file, there is a message should _not_ be c-format

#: ../src/planner-task-view.c:344
#, c-format
msgid % Complete
msgstr % amaituta

Because running msgfmt gives me next error:

eu.po:2035: format specifications in 'msgid' and 'msgstr' for argument 1
are not the same

It is expecting a 'C' character after '% ', so in languages a Spanish
does not give errors, '% Completado', but gives errors on other
languages.

So I asked to be changed to no-c-format in next bug:

GDM module: dudes on some messages

2008-01-05 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

Updating GDM (HEAD branch) translation I've got dudes about some
messages:

0.- Display ID

Is display a verb (like to show something) or is a name (like a
'monitor'?)

1.- unscoped error

does it mean like unknown error? (I understand 'scope' as a kind of
range, so it has no sense for me as it is).

2.- session log '%s' is not a normal file, logging session to '%s'
instead.\n

'session log' means to register session's events into a file (for
example in /var/log/syslog file) or is talking about 'session login' (to
start a session).

3.- unable to log session

following to previous message, this one means that is not posible to
write seesions events into a log-file? (or that is not posible to start
a new user session)

SVN strange behavior

2007-09-05 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

Who's got SVN access permission to handle other language?

I found a PO file translated to Basque lang but nobody from Basque team
does translate it. As far as I supossed , it was translated for Ubuntu
distribution. I'm talking about Beagle's basque translation.

The matter is that this file does not follow Basque translation
terminology and style, so I have to remove it from repository.

How can GNOME's basque team control translation if others whose got
access to SVN modify eu.po files without permission.

Please, all of us have tasks and responsabilities!

Looking in Changelog:

2007-08-28 Joe Shaw [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* eu.po: Updated Basque translation from Mikel Paskual
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

As far as I know Joe does not ask me to add/commit file to SVN, and
certainly I don't commit any file if it was not revised and corrected to
hold Basque translation terminology and style.

This way doesn't help to Quality Assurance in translations.

By the other hand, Mikel didn't contact me to ask to translate this
file. And the first step is to ask is somebody is translating any file.
In this case, this file will be translated by Basque Goverment's
translators.

Dooteo

I did that too :) You need to change to the base directory of each
 module, and run:

 svn switch --relocate ssh+svh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/svn/module-name/

ssh-add will be your friend :)

Maybe you have only trunk or a module (i.e., downloaded with jhbuild).
Then you should append trunk or branches/(gnome-2-18|whatever) to
the above URL. If you don't if you have trunk or branch (again. i.e.
jhbuild) you can run svn info in the directory.

If you're using jhbuild, you should fix your .jhbuildrc, too:
 repos['svn.gnome.org'] = 'svn+ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/svn/'

Maybe just fixing ~/.jhbuildrc and running jhbuild update is
enough... I don't know, but I'd give it a try.

BTW, thanks for Guilherme de S. Pastore and Lucas Rocha for teaching
me the svn swith trick when I needed it.

 Hi folks,

Updating GOK translation I found some typos on eu.po, es.po and fr.po
 files.

There is some messages like these:

 msgid level 0|abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890-=[];'#\\,./

 or

 msgid level 1|ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ!\3$%^*()_+{}:@~?

Even on previous comment lines developers ask to us not translate level
1| or level 0| parts, on those file are translated. I.e:

 [eu.po]
 msgstr 0. maila|abcdefghijklmnñopqrstuvwxyz1234567890-=[];'#\\,./
 msgstr 1. maila|ABCDEFGHIJKLMNÑOPQRSTUVWXYZ!\3$%^*()_+{}:@~?

 [es.po]
 msgstr nivel 0|abcdefghijklmnñopqrstuvwxyz1234567890-=[];'#\\,./
 msgstr nivel 1|ABCDEFGHIJKLMNÑOPQRSTUVWXYZ!\3$%^*()_+{}:@~?

 [fr.po]
 msgstr niveau 0|abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890-=[];'#\\,./
 msgstr niveau 1|ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ!\3$%^*()_+{}:@~?

I'd fixed them in basque file, so I ask to Spanish and French (and or
another language's) translators to do the same :)

Can someone explain it, or i'm fooling my mind?

GIMP 2.2 releases are created from the gimp-2-2 branch. The HEAD
branch isn't string-frozen yet. It is up to you to decide whether it
makes sense to work in the HEAD branch already.

Re: CVS advice (was Re: Can't commit updated PO file: gtkhtml gnome-2-12)

2005-09-09 Thread dooteo
Hi all,

I would go so far as to *recommend* that you specify exactly which files
you are trying to commit (as dooteo did), in case you accidentally
commit changes to files that weren't ready to be commit. I always do.
And, *always* do a cvs diff first to be sure your patch is clean!

CVS is smart to find by itself which files need sending to the server.

I always make an update first, and in this case, gtkhtml is checkout-ed
from -r gnome-2-12. After that, runned intltool-update eu and work on a
copy. When the copy is fine (running 'msgfmt -c --strict
--statistics') , copy back to eu.po and with ChangeLog I commit
them. :)

I'd wrote to [EMAIL PROTECTED] talking about this 'bug'.

I'm waiting for them, and meanwhile updating other POs

I'm agree too. But which way can any icon represent to a specific

So I think better is to use text (instead of icon) or maybe people
talking icon with a scpecific lang at bottom (like a box with bz2, tar,

Re: Basque team new cvs account

2005-03-23 Thread dooteo
Hi Christian and Mikel,

Mikel (aka Hey_neken) is a GNOME basque translator, and he is helping me
to translate this desktop.

It's true that last 3 months I've didn't upload nothing to CVS, this is
the reason: last months I'm working on a Debian based basque distro for
Basque Goverment, so working with B.Gov's translators there are a lot of
new packages translated (they finnished two weeks ago). I'm fixing those
PO and help files before update CVS. I think next week will be able to
upload most of them.

By the other hand, Basque translation team (Mikel and me, and other
voluntaries) are working slowly. This is the procedure: all PO
translated PO files have to be submited to me (to overview and fix the
used terminology). After that are uploaded to CVS. I'd like to follow
this way because on PO files are a lot of new terminology that all
translator should be uses, but unfortunatly sometimes it doesn't
happend. And Basque language needs to use/create those new terminology
and translation style.

B.Gov's translator and me have several discussion about which new
terminology adjust to original messages, which are better and which make
confuse the user. B.G. translators have need more than 6 months to make
they're job. More or less they're translated 400.000 words (including
OOo's new messages and GNOME's help files).

I think that it's very important to use the same terminology and style
on all translated files: why? Because if we think from a normal users
view, all the programs should be with the same messages style and
terminology (glossary), in other case users can loose they're mind
trying to understand the meaning of the messages, and they would think
that GNOME programs are not so easy to use.

I think it's more effective to review translated files before submit to
CVS, than have to be reviewing them after (once they are submited and
propagate to all GNU/Linux distros).

That's why I'd preffer to follow being GNOME Basque coordinator (and the
task it suposses to me) to force GNOME Basque translated files to use a
unified basque language.

Christian, if you think it's better to give grant to Mikel to access to
CVS, do it.

Mikel, if you want to take responsibility, it would be okey for me too.
In that case we will be to organize ourself to review all submited
files :)

Best regards for all,

Dooteo

Thats why I write asking if it would possible to access with a second

  Thanks :)

Our policy is that translator CVS accounts are only granted if the
language coordinator for that language supports it.

So in this case, what we would want to do is first and foremost to try
to contact the current Basque coordinator. If he doesn't reply in a
week, we should replace him with a new Basque coordinator. Mikel, are
 you volunteering for this position?
In any case, nothing will happen with any accounts and so on until
either you get in contact with the current coordinator and get approval
from him, or we have a new Basque coordinator that can approve any
accounts. We do not want any teams without an active coordinator.

Iñaki, consider this an official reminder. If you don't reply with a
good explanation within a week, we'll appoint another Basque
 coordinator.

Mikel, please clarify whether you're volunteering for the position, and
please remind us when a week has passed.
