Basque team's new coordinator
Hi all, After spending several years translating and coordinating GNOME to Basque [eu] language, resign time has come for me. Let me introduce Asier Sarasola to you (I send a current mail copy to him). He is used to translate some GNOME modules to Basque lang, as well as other free software, so he does know how Gettext world works. Asier will be the new GNOME Basque team coordinator, so could DL managers set him as Basque Team coordinator for me? It’s been a realy pleasure for me to be part of GNOME project. Thanks and best regards to all, and best wishes to Asier in his new “taskmaster" role :-) Dooteo ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n
Re: D-L does not commit translations for Basque language
Hi Daniel, Thanks for sharing your script. I’ve got my own scripts too to upload to Git. Unfortunately, I lost access grant once GNOME was migrated to GitLab. I asked for access permission, but sysadmin replied if safer to avoid translators to access whole source code. That’s why I’ve gotta upload by D-L. GDM module: dudes on some messages
Hi all, Updating GDM (HEAD branch) translation I've got dudes about some messages: 0.- Display ID Is display a verb (like to show something) or is a name (like a 'monitor'?) 1.- unscoped error does it mean like unknown error? (I understand 'scope' as a kind of range, so it has no sense for me as it is). 2.- session log '%s' is not a normal file, logging session to '%s' instead.\n 'session log' means to register session's events into a file (for example in /var/log/syslog file) or is talking about 'session login' (to start a session). 3.- unable to log session following to previous message, this one means that is not posible to write seesions events into a log-file? SVN strange behavior
Hi all, Who's got SVN access permission to handle other language? I found a PO file translated to Basque lang but nobody from Basque team does translate it. As far as I supossed , it was translated for Ubuntu distribution. I'm talking about Beagle's basque translation. The matter is that this file does not follow Basque translation terminology and style, so I have to remove it from repository. How can GNOME's basque team control translation if others whose got access to SVN modify eu.po files without permission. Please, all of us have tasks and responsabilities! Looking in Changelog: 2007-08-28 Joe Shaw [EMAIL PROTECTED] * eu.po: Updated Basque translation from Mikel Paskual [EMAIL PROTECTED] As far as I know Joe does not ask me to add/commit file to SVN, and certainly I don't commit any file if it was not revised and corrected to hold Basque translation terminology and style. This way doesn't help to Quality Assurance in translations. By the other hand, Mikel didn't contact me to ask to translate this file. And the first step is to ask is somebody is translating any file. Re: CVS advice (was Re: Can't commit updated PO file: gtkhtml gnome-2-12)
Hi all, I would go so far as to *recommend* that you specify exactly which files you are trying to commit (as dooteo did), in case you accidentally commit changes to files that weren't ready to be commit. I always do. And, *always* do a cvs diff first to be sure your patch is clean! CVS is smart to find by itself which files need sending to the server. I always make an update first, and in this case, gtkhtml is checkout-ed from -r gnome-2-12. After that, runned intltool-update eu and work on a copy. When the copy is fine (running 'msgfmt -c --strict --statistics') , copy back to eu.po and with ChangeLog I commit them. :) I'd wrote to [EMAIL PROTECTED] talking about this 'bug'. I'm waiting for them, and meanwhile updating other POs Thanks and best regards, Dooteo ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n

Do you want Argentina, Colombia or Spain for Spanish? I'm agree too. But which way can any icon represent to a specific language? As far as I know languages have no countries... :) So I think better is to use text (instead of icon) or maybe people talking icon with a scpecific lang at bottom (like a box with bz2, tar, etc) Best regards, Dooteo ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n
Re: Can't commit updated PO file: gtkhtml gnome-2-12
Hi, I'm still can't commit eu.po file to gtkhtml (gnome-2-12 branch) even that a few minutes ago I'd commit eu.po's for libgtop, zenity, etc... eu.po file is msgfmt perfectly, without errors. Any suggest? How commit to 2.10 branch?
Hi folks, I'm trying to get 2.10 CVS packages, to add/update basque po files. When I'd run this one, cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:2401/cvs/gnome -z3 co -r gnome-2-10 gail it doesn't create local gail. So, how can I commit basque translated files to 2.10 GNOME's branch? Re: Basque team new cvs account
Hi Christian and Mikel, Mikel (aka Hey_neken) is a GNOME basque translator, and he is helping me to translate this desktop. It's true that last 3 months I've didn't upload nothing to CVS, this is the reason: last months I'm working on a Debian based basque distro for Basque Goverment, so working with B.Gov's translators there are a lot of new packages translated (they finnished two weeks ago). I'm fixing those PO and help files before update CVS. I think next week will be able to upload most of them. By the other hand, Basque translation team (Mikel and me, and other voluntaries) are working slowly. This is the procedure: all PO translated PO files have to be submited to me (to overview and fix the used terminology). After that are uploaded to CVS. I'd like to follow this way because on PO files are a lot of new terminology that all translator should be uses, but unfortunatly sometimes it doesn't happend. And Basque language needs to use/create those new terminology and translation style. B.Gov's translator and me have several discussion about which new terminology adjust to original messages, which are better and which make confuse the user. B.G. translators have need more than 6 months to make they're job. More or less they're translated 400.000 words (including OOo's new messages and GNOME's help files). I think that it's very important to use the same terminology and style on all translated files: why? Because if we think from a normal users view, all the programs should be with the same messages style and terminology (glossary), in other case users can loose they're mind trying to understand the meaning of the messages, and they would think that GNOME programs are not so easy to use. I think it's more effective to review translated files before submit to CVS, than have to be reviewing them after (once they are submited and propagate to all GNU/Linux distros). That's why I'd preffer to follow being GNOME Basque coordinator (and the task it suposses to me) to force GNOME Basque translated files to use a unified basque language. Christian, if you think it's better to give grant to Mikel to access to CVS, do it. Mikel, if you want to take responsibility, it would be okey for me too. In that case we will be to organize ourself to review all submited files :) Best regards for all, Dooteo On ar., 2005-03-22 at 22:01 +0100, Christian Rose wrote: tis 2005-03-22 klockan 13:36 +0100 skrev Mikel Olasagasti: Hi! I've been a translator in the GNOME basque team for a while, but our maintainer actually seems to have no time to admin our translations, since it doesn't write or upload nothing in the last 3 months. Thats why I write asking if it would possible to access with a second account to the CVS to upload translations for the team. Thanks :) Our policy is that translator CVS accounts are only granted if the language coordinator for that language supports it. So in this case, what we would want to do is first and foremost to try to contact the current Basque coordinator. If he doesn't reply in a week, we should replace him with a new Basque coordinator. Mikel, are you volunteering for this position? In any case, nothing will happen with any accounts and so on until either you get in contact with the current coordinator and get approval from him, or we have a new Basque coordinator that can approve any accounts. We do not want any teams without an active coordinator. Iñaki, consider this an official reminder. If you don't reply with a good explanation within a week, we'll appoint another Basque coordinator. Mikel, please clarify whether you're volunteering for the position, and please remind us when a week has passed.
