Translating Glom example files

2012-01-10 Thread Murray Cumming
I would be very grateful to any translators that would like to translate
Glom's example files:
http://www.murrayc.com/blog/permalink/2012/01/09/glom-translating-the-example-files/

I would also welcome ideas about how I can make the translation process
better.

Adding an item to
https://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/TranslationsOutsideStatus
would be welcome, though I'm not convinced that many translators take a
look at that page.

Re: Translating Glom example files

2012-01-10 Thread Daniel Mustieles García
Hi Murray,

The same term appears several times in the same po file (i.e. "Subject" in
lesson_planner). It would be easier if terms were not repeated in the same
file.

I'm working on spanish translation for these files. I'll commit changes
directly into git

Cheers

I was not sure what to do about this. Each one has a different msgctxt,
allowing them to be translated differently depending on where they
appear. This might be important for some languages. For instance:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/glom/tree/examples/po_files/example_lesson_planner/example_lesson_planner.pot#n84
and
http://git.gnome.org/browse/glom/tree/examples/po_files/example_lesson_planner/example_lesson_planner.pot#n104

Of course, it's probably hard to understand the context properly without
seeing the text (often single words) in the actual UI. But that is a
problem of all translation.

Thanks. That's great.

Never mind... in most cases, is the same translation, and msgctxt helps to
know if there is any difference between them.

You can add an info about this to the Glom page in Damned Lies and all
Glom translators will see it.

And what about an updates? You will announce changes manually to i18n
mailing list?

The Czech translation is done and commited.

I would like to, but how can I do that?

Yes, I will try to do that.

It requires an l10n.gnome.org admin to add the text. I just added some text
for you:

«glom is a user-friendly database application.
Apart from the UI messages and the documentation, there are additional
example files that can be translated. Currently, these are translated
separately and are not shown on this page. See https://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/TranslationsOutsideStatus";>the
glom section at TranslationsOutsideStatus for instructions on how to
translate them.»

Tell me if it needs any changes.

You will need to copy your blog post text to

I was eventually able to add the references to these files to the
l10n.gnome.org database.

Sorry not having stepped in sooner in this thread.
