Re: [GNC] How to install GnuCash from Source for Linux ?

2020-02-19 Thread David Cousens
There are some .deb installation files that Stephen Butler produced for
Ubuntu 18.04 which should work under LM 19.3 (search the mailing list for
posts re debian should find them)

https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building_On_Linux covers building from source
of the most up to date versions.

I currently have 3.8 built on Linux Mint 19.3 runnning with no problems.
Once you get all the dependencies loaded it is generally pretty straight
forward, but then I've been buidling it for ~10 years.

Pay attention to the relative addressing of the source directory from the
build directory in the cmake command as this is the thing most people new to
building GnuCash have trouble with.

Good luck

[GNC] How to install GnuCash from Source for Linux ?

2020-02-19 Thread Long
I spent a lot of time to read some topic on internet, and i couldn't find
anything "EASY" to help me install GnuCash (Newest version) into my Linux
Mint 19.3.

Ok, if i install it from Software Center, it's older version from GnuCash
webpage, and if i install it from FLATPAK, it's prevent me to use "Ibus" or
"Fcitx".

Why GnuCash doesn't release a .deb or .Appimage for their users ?

[GNC] Where should i put my account "Loan to a Friend" when they evaded debt ?

2020-02-19 Thread Long
Hello GnuCash Users,

I just assumed that when i loan to a friend and they don't give my money
back, and then, where should i put that Account to make it doesn't not
affect my Assets ? i mean, my Asset only had 100$, "Stealer" owed to me
about 20$, everytime i open GnuCash... oh, look, this month i got 120$, and
check my bank, oh man, it's only 100$...

To Expense : I assumed that i want to put it to Expense, maybe it's make
sense, because i already spent my money.

To Liability : How about move it to Liability ? so look at a placeholder
"Liability", my owe will decrease because i will make a negative account for
"owed to me". it seems like unreasonable for me when i check my owed.

of course, this is just assumed, like the way GnuCash teach us when the
first time we fall in love with GnuCash.

Thank you for take your time to read this post, and help me.

Re: [GNC] Precision in exchange rate conversion

2020-02-19 Thread John Ralls
That's not mangling the data, it's presenting the exact value of
11102.12/1975.10, a number that isn't representable as a decimal without
rounding.

As for the display being clever, of course it isn't, it's a computer.
But it you enter the two values 11102.12 and 1975.10 GnuCash shouldn't change
them, it should just calculate the ratio and present that as the price, either
exactly as 5 + 61331/98755 or as 5.621041972558352 rounded to however many
decimal places. When I test that, it's exactly what I get, see the attached
screen shot. Note the exact exchange rate in the exchange rate box but the
rounded decimal values to the right of it.

John Ralls

I started a re-write of the QIF importer in C a very very long time
ago. That (failed) re-write has long-since been removed from the repo.
It turns out that C is not very good at tokenizing and parsing strings.
Funny that.

I am sure that using std::string in C++ would make it a lot easier to
reprogram, but honestly the existing QIF importer is fairly robust and
fairly well tested (via time).

The real downside of the current implementation is that it doesn't have
a test suite where you can throw test-case QIF files at it and ensure
you get a reasonable answer.

Having said that, whether or not you can actually throw an error with
the line number will depend deeply on where it fails. The way the
process works is that it reads in the file (line by line) and tokenizes
the data. At this point it would be relatively easy to output the line
number. Then, after the file is tokenized, it actually goes through and
parses the tokens for QIF correctness; most likely THIS is where the
failure occurs, but at this point we don't have line numbers any more.

So we COULD add a "see line number X" into the qif-file.scm (IIRC), but
I doubt that's the stage of the process where the error happens.

OFX imports match via complex heuristics(*)
OFX imports have a FITID field which is stored in a transaction split's

QIF imports don't have a similar field, so, the matching is actually done

2020-02-19 Thread Paul Abraham
I have real world transaction that involves a transfer from a GBP to a
BRL account but cannot get it to accept either the correct value in BRL
or the actual exchange rate. It insists on truncating the rate to 3
decimal places (or 4 sig figs?) and adjusting the amount to match, even
though the "Transfer Funds" window suggests it's working to 6 DPs - .
How do I fix this? Details are:
   OS: 4.19.102-1-MANJARO
Gnucash version: Version: 3.8 (Build ID: 3.8b+(2019-12-29)) - the
   latest in the Manjaro repository.
   Amount in GBP: 1975.10
   Amount in BRL: 11102.12
   Exchange Rate: 5.62104
Gnucash forces exchange rate to 5.621000 resulting in BRL value of
   11,102.04

   Thanks

Re: [GNC] Small bug in the display

2020-02-19 Thread Adrien Monteleone
There is already a bug filed on a similar issue with dates, but I’m not sure if
this has the same cause. (though one solution might work for both issues)

In the meantime, you can manually resize the date column.

The downside is this is only remembered per account register rather than all of
them at once.

(I think there is also a bug that on some systems the resizing is not
remembered at all, so mileage may vary)

Adrien

Re: [GNC] How to enter value when budgeting? And meaning ?

2020-02-19 Thread Adrien Monteleone
It looks like you have everything set correctly. (and you really don’t need to
uninstall/reinstall when you make such changes)

I see now, in Tools > Security Editor, the Dong (VND) is set for 1/100 instead
of 1 as the smallest fraction. Perhaps this is why you are still seeing
decimals.

Unfortunately, even using the Edit button doesn’t allow you to change this.
(all fields but the symbol are greyed out)

Perhaps someone more familiar with Currency editing can chime in.

I’m sorry I couldn’t help further.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] [GNC-dev] Failed - import of QIF files from Quicken

2020-02-19 Thread Geert Janssens
They should not be taken off-line, they should be taken to gnucash-devel.

I have purposely left gnucash-user in cc in this mail to inform everybody, but
please on future
replies remove gnucash-user from the recipient list and only post to
gnucash-devel.

Re: [GNC] How to enter value when budgeting? And meaning ?

2020-02-19 Thread Adrien Monteleone
You’re welcome, and your English is certainly good enough to get the point
across, no worries.

As for the currency issue, this usually isn’t set by GnuCash. You set this in
your operating system settings.

Unfortunately, I don’t use Windows, so I can’t help further, but it should be
in settings related to Language and Region.

You should see the option to set what character to use for groupings and
decimals. I’d think you’d have the option to use ’none’.

On my Mac, when I switch to Vietnamese Dong only the ‘grouping’ character
choice has any effect. The decimal option doesn’t let me choose ’none’ because
it doesn’t display a decimal at all. Maybe Windows isn’t as fancy, but you
should be able to set the option for decimal to ’none'.

Note, you’ll then need to set GnuCash’s Currency preference to ‘Locale’ if it
is not set that way already.

Regards,
Adrien
