Re: [GNC] gnucash-user Digest, Vol 255, Issue 13

2024-06-12 Thread Bruce Irving
Thank you guys.

Geert's suggestion actually worked! It was like Adrien said, "it opened
with just the 5 major accounts. I almost missed the New Accounts Page as
it was the very bottom of the list. If I had seen it before, I would have
thought that it was like opening a new company/person so would have ignored
it

I'm sorry, I should have given more detail in my opening message:

I've been using various flavors of Linux for about 25 years and GC a little
bit less. One of the first I learned was that the included GC was at least
to major versions old which is why I started using Flatpack. Currently,
I'm one PeppermintOS, a derivation of Debian. I am thinking about going to
Slackware as my first installation was a derivation called Vector Linux.

I've always opened GC by clicking on the data file, or a link to it.)
Unfortunately, opening from a link puts the backup in the directory where
the link is. I wrote a C program to switch to the data directory, move the
backups into another directory and delete the logs. Then it would open GC
with my data.

While the accounts are on tabs, I open reports in a separate window which
caused my original issue. I don't use the online banking features. I did
try the business feature but, as usual, it didn't fit what I needed to do.

You guys have done a bang-up job putting this together and I love not
having to close each year.

There is one feature I would like to see, though I doubt many would have a
use for it. I learned bookkeeping BC (Before Computer) so I learned the
paper/pencil method. I wish there was a report that would let me print a
General Journal much like what appears on screen for a particular period.
I would also like to print the various active accounts: Date GL 1st
Description, with debit and credit columns. While I would like a running
balance, I believe the proper way was totals at the bottom. Oh, and each
account would be its own page(s). I would do them myself but I'm having
enough trouble with C. I used to know 6502 Machine language, dBase III as
well as some Lotus Macros and Excel VBA. I'm not object oriented
depending on text so that I can trace what is going on.

[GNC] GC now only opens a report

2024-06-11 Thread Bruce Irving
GC 5.6 under flatpack.
I didn't close a report (in a separate window) before I closed the regular
GC. Now, when I Try to open GC, I only get the report.
How do I get to being able to enter data again?

Re: [GNC] Request for two new features in GnuCash

2022-08-06 Thread Bruce Irving
I have three separate data files: personal and two for non-profit
organizations. I've always started gnucash by selecting the data file.

I have tried putting a link to the data file on my desktop (both when I was
using Ms and now with Linux.) The only problem is that the log files are
created on the desktop. If I navigate to the data directory (folder) and
double click the data file, the log files are created in the data
directory. In Ms, I could have the link start in the data folder.
Unfortunately, I haven't found how to do that in Linux yet.

Peppermint 10 does use LXDE as a DE.
PepermintOS has gone to XFCE and the same pattern exhibits itself there.

Re: [GNC] Startup issue - two windows

2022-06-10 Thread Bruce Irving
When I start a new installation of GNC, I go through this same snafu.
After I get past that, I immediately turn off running the auto create
feature and the start up notes. It was good to have the latter when I was
still learning GNC, After that, I had no problems with startup other than
occasional lock files because the PC had crashed. This is an old PC that
originally ran Vista but is now running Peppermint 10 which is based on
Ubuntu 10.04. I've kept it until I get comfortable with the new version.
My other PCs are now on PeppermintOS based on Debian.

Re: [GNC] Startup issue - two windows

2022-05-18 Thread Bruce Irving
I believe that I might have experienced Tommy's situation - twice, on
different machines. I believe they happened when I had just installed GNC
on a new PC, I open the GNC by double clicking the data file. Hopefully,
I remember the details.
GNC would show the opening banner (I never turn that off. I don't like no
activity during the start-up!) Then the normal screen opens, the Run
Scheduled Transactions appears and finally, Tip Of the Day appears on top
of RST. The later doesn't allow any activity on the other windows (within
GNC) until it has been dismissed but, unfortunately, it is hidden by TOD.
Once I get past that blockage, then I can turn off TOD and RST so they
don't appear any more.
Hope this helps.

annoying idiosyncrasies. If this doesn't work, I'll probably return to
flatpak.

David Cousins: The first time, I did navigate to the data file and double
clicked it as was my usual method of opening it. When that didn't work, I
stated gnucash and used file/open. Both ways gave the same error.

I do appreciate your suggestions.

I have 3 separate gnucash data files. I never open gnucash rather I click

[GNC] re Report unreliable (invalid totals)

2022-02-27 Thread Bruce Irving
Now I feel stupid!😘 It turned out that a place holder account had an old
balance. Once I got that cleared, the report balances.

Still one minor problem: the balance shows blank for the value of the
savings account but it still totals as if it was printed. Can't remember
if that was an issue in v3.x.

I'm using Version: 4.9, Build ID: Flathub 4.9-2 on Peppermint 10 (Ubuntu

Looking at the liabilities section of my Balance Sheet
(Liabilities_2022-02-27.png); it showed 1 AP account of -90.68 totaling to
-80.68!
I tried running the report limiting it to only liabilities. The rest of
the options, except show zero values, were the same for both reports.
(Liabilities_2022-27.html) Now it shows both payees but the total is stil
$10.00! and the Total liabilities is -43.18 for both reports.

By prefixing the account Name with the pcode sorted as I was used to.
Unfortunately, they are no longer in order. And the Account Summary Report

Is it possible to get these back to alphanumeric order?

Re: [GNC] Check printing

Hi, Victor.
I use the same format as you.

I still can't understand why I create 8 transactions in the Checking
account, everything is the same except the number and payee. Only one of
those checks would print. For the rest of them, it goes through the
procedure on screen but when I click the final print, it does not go to the
printer! I have to hand write those 7 checks.

That is what I did, Victor. (It is Ctrl-P on my platform.) Only the first
one printed. Each of the others, when I did Ctrl-P, went through the

[GNC] Check printing

2021-06-10 Thread Bruce Irving
I'm getting to the point that I can rarely read my own handwriting. So I
started playing with printing checks from GC bank reisters.
I am using 'Quicken/QuickBooks (tm) US-Letter 3-part' checks in GC Version
4.4 Flatpak under Peppermint 10 (based on Ubuntu 16?? or 18??)
It works - sometimes. If I "print" a check, and the printer mis-behaves, I
can't reprint it! The other day, I needed to write eight checks to
different parties, other than the payee, the checks were the same, I could
only print one of them! I had to hand write the others.
Is there any way that I can get a check to reprint? Or, to print multiple
nearly identical checks?

I have 3 data files, each in its own directory (folder) When I want to
open one of them, I navigate to that directory then double click the data
file.

To open another, I again navigate to the appropriate directory and double
click the data file and it starts another instance of GnuCash.

This works in both Windows and Linux. I don't know about Mac.

I don't think we're that far apart. I don't delete them immediately, and
I don't suppose you really mean that these files, numbering in many
thousands after using GC for a few years, should be stored permanently.
The only question then is where to draw the retention line.

--
Stan Brown

As I have several GNC data files, I start GNC by opening the data file. I
used to fave soft links (in Linux - Shortcut in Windows). Then I noticed
that I was getting links to the log files in whatever directory the
shortcut was in. So now, I just navigate to the Data directory and double
click the data file to start it.
At the same time the above started, I was no longer seeing any backup
files. For the following discussion, assume the dafa fille is
'be.gnucash' So now, I manually make one by selecting br.gnucash, copy
and paste into the same directory . this gives a new file called br'
(copy).gnucash. I then change its name to br.gnucash.mmdd.gnucash.
[that is Year Month Day] Then I open the original file.

Re: [GNC] Printing

2020-12-30 Thread Bruce Irving
I've been using flatpacks since I switch to Linux full-time (a bit over a
year ago).
Unfortunately, it doesn't see my printer on my network. It only offers lp
or file. I select file, make sure I know where it is printing (not an easy
task!) and that it has a pdf extension. Then I can open it from a document
viewer and print.

Also, Invoices went the same route but I never tried to print checks.

Bruce

David wrote:
Printing is normally handled by the OS and not by GnuCash itself.

What OS are you using and what is the GnuCash version?
What are you trying to print?

Generally only reports can be printed out (and checks, invoices etc.). Under
the File menu item there is a Print Report (Ctrl-P) entry which will print
the report currently displayed in the main window to the system printer.
AFAIK this is context sensitive and become Print Checks when an account
register is being displayed. I would think if an invoice is the open tab it
will change to Print Invoice but I do not use the business features so I
cannot check it out easily.

On Linux, in my case, this is a network shared printer accessible via CUPS.
If the printer is accessible through the OS, web browsers or other
applications, it should also be accessible from within GnuCash. If not it is
likely a CUPS configuration problem

An alternative is to export the report as HTML, then open it with a web
browser and print from the browser.

Re: [GNC] envelope method, equity sub-accounts, cash vs. hybrid vs. accrual accounting

2020-08-12 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
First, let me say that I have never in my 50 years of accounting/bookkeeping,
been successful setting up and using a budget.  It was just too much work when
the information was already in the books as to how much was spent in each
account in each period.  The few times I set up a very simple one, there was no
relating it to actual.
I have been treasurer of a non-profit for the past 7 years.  My predecessors,
if I was lucky, kept a check register.  It took a long time to get the term
assets/liabilities in to some sort of books.  I suppose I was fortunate that we
weren't big enough, here in USA, that I didn't have to make detailed reports to
the government, and the members were only concerned with cash in bank.
We do, from time to time, have dedicated funds to specific purposes.  I can
easily see the balance of these funds and make deposits/withdrawals.
110 Bank of Gnu$1,337.34placeholder shows sum of sub accounts
     110.1 General fund$1,234.45     110.2 Dedicated fund 1
$67.89     119,3 dedicated fund 2    $35.00One bank account with virtual
funds. Now I know at a glance how much is each dedicated fund.  I even had one
slip into the red this month which is ok in that it tracks donations for our
dinners and would have come out of General fund any way.  In fact, based on a
comment by our Commander, I had just set up the fund using data from the first
of last year.

You probably know this, but just on the off chance that you don't:

In the File ? Properties dialog, there is a setting "Day threshold for
read-only transactions." If change the default 0 in that box to a
number, then transactions more than that many days before today can't be
edited.

It would be a lot more useful if we could set a date, in my opinion, but
it's better than nothing.

thanks, Stan.
If I had seen this, it was so long ago that I didn't want it.  (I was entering
assets from some 50 years before!)  And there was no real cutoff date for that
process.  I just realized that it has been a long while since I had any old
entries.
My first thought was like someone suggested: using the first day of the current
month would be great until I realized I wouldn't be able to work on yesterday's
transactions on the first day of the month.  Setting the day threshold to 31
will work for me as I will occasionally find a transaction in the bank that I
didn't know about and have to track down who or what it was.

When I started using GNC, about 5 or 6 years ago, I had 2 surprises: 1) I
didn't have to enter the earliest transactions first as I was trying to find
the old transactions for the assets/liabilities while I was entering daily
transactions.  And 2) that I could edit entered transactions.
I grew up in the pen and paper era so that editing an entry was a no-no but,
since my current effort was not for other people, it was great as Idon't make
mistreaks! Yeah! Right!  (For those of you, myself included, that didn't catch
the irony of that remark. I do make many mistakes.)
The idea of freezing a transaction at some point is an idea that would be
appreciated, even by a user like me.  Just before I retired,  There have been
times that I accidentally changed a transaction that I didn't intend to. I
found that (some of) the commercial programs could allow someone to change
transactions - at least by a supervisor.  I retired because 1) I didn't want to
learn a system that did not use account numbers and 2) I was confused by having
as many as five different accounts with the same name - one in each of the
top-level accounts.

Re: [GNC] How to find un-posted invoices (was: Re: BotanyBayGardens nonprofit example, and why GnuCash does not suffice)

2020-07-27 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
Thanks, Adrien
I found that out yesterday when I created an invoice but didn't post it
I'll live with it until I can track them all down.  My goal is to eventually
delete the AR module.
Bruce

Try Business > Customer > Find Invoice, then set criteria to `Is
posted?` and uncheck the box. (without that criteria, others should show
a `Posted` column anyway, 'un-posted' invoices will show "12/31/1969" as
the date - a bug, but usable info still.)

You can of course add criteria, and/or run iterated searches to refine
the list as needed.

Sadly, there is no way to get a report or even export this results list.
(You can screenshot I suppose)

There is also no way to save the search criteria if they get complicated.

But from the Find window you can View, Edit, Pay, Print, etc. (the
'Printable Report' button is an Invoice report, not a report of the
results.)

Hope that helps.

Adrien

Very interesting conversation.I supposedly learned Job Costing in Business

or rather his Accounting system did as still understand it.? But I survived.
Now I'm using GnuCash for a non-profit which isn't required to make detailed
tax reports (in USA).? I am curious, however, how the different revenue streams
work.? Also, few of my members wish to look at the Accounting reports.? I have
swerved from GAAP in the effect that I combine COGS with Revenue:
401 Membership Dues{Place Holder - shows net balance}
401 Dues Receipts

??? 501 Dues Forwarded
and so forth for the other streams.
One of my nits to pick is the AR module:? if I create an invoice without
posting it, I can't find it unless I look at each of my 100+ members.? I'll
write an external program to prepare the invoices and keep them in a separate
file.? Then I only need to enter it into GNC as they are paid.

Regards,

So far, only the provided reports.  We are at the beginning of our dues cycle
so I haven't had much time to pursue this.

Re: [GNC] BotanyBayGardens nonprofit example, and why GnuCash does not suffice

2020-07-25 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
Very interesting conversation.I supposedly learned Job Costing in Business
school in the 70s.  30 years later, I wound up with an employer that used it -
or rather his Accounting system did as still understand it.  But I survived.
Now I'm using GnuCash for a non-profit which isn't required to make detailed
tax reports (in USA).  I am curious, however, how the different revenue streams
work.  Also, few of my members wish to look at the Accounting reports.  I have
swerved from GAAP in the effect that I combine COGS with Revenue:
401 Membership Dues{Place Holder - shows net balance}
401 Dues Receipts

    501 Dues Forwarded
and so forth for the other streams.
One of my nits to pick is the AR module:  if I create an invoice without
posting it, I can't find it unless I look at each of my 100+ members.  I'll
write an external program to prepare the invoices and keep them in a separate
file.  Then I only need to enter it into GNC as they are paid.

That's what I disliked the most about Win10 - it seemed like every time it did
an upgrade (weekly?) it would change one or more of my settings.  And if I
delayed the upgrade, Win10 would sulk (run extremely slow) until I did run the
upgrade.  At least, with Linux, I'm in charge of when or if I upgrade.

Re: [GNC] GnuCash list

2020-07-08 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
From: Robert Heller

Most people in recent times are using a webmail client (eg GMail, Yahoo, AOL,
Hotmail, etc.), so they are reading E-Mail in a webbrowser, just as they would
be reading postings in an actual webforum.  The idea of an "E-Mail List" as
something separate from a forum is actually foreign to these people.  And yes
many people would prefer a web-forum (not me -- I hate web forums and avoid
them whenever possible).

Thank you, Robert.  Yes, it is foreign to me.
Unfortunately, I do not save the messages.  I needed to reinstall my OS and all
my applications.  They do offer gnucash version 1:2.6.19-1.  They also offer
flatpak which is currently 4.0-3.
After reading the difficulties, I was going to wait until it smoothed out
before installing but, in this case, had no choice but to upgrade.  Now, I have
a couple of nits to pick:

I started bookkeeping BC (before computer) so I'm familiar with debits and
credits.  Unfortunately. I couldn't find where to use formal accounting rules.
I recently made an entry, (I work in the general ledger.) and, as usual double
checked it in the account register where it looked wrong.  So I corrected it
and looked at it in the other account where it again looked wrong.  After 3
corrections, I finally realized the the accounts were different from what I was
used to.
I had heard several express difficulty with column widths.  I usually work with
two or more windows open at once.  But now, GNC requires me to use full screen.
In both of those cases, I had read there was a solution.  With a mailing list,
I can't browse through the previous posts to find the answers to my issues.
The first post in this collection referred to Gmane.  I'll install Thunderbird
and see if I can figure out how to find it.
Thank you to all of you that work on this project.  It is awesome.
Bruce

Re: [GNC] export accounts, import accounts

2020-06-13 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
David made the following comment:  "It is usually a good idea if you are
creating a new file to copy it to its own directory before opening it so its
backup and log files are kept separate from those of any previous data file."
Up until March, my log and backup files were located in the folder where the
data resides.  Then, I switched to Linux.  Then, when I clicked on the link to
the data, it would leave a link to the data files.  I have no idea where they
are - they are not in the data folder.  To avoid this, I now manually switch to
the data folder and double click the data file.

Re: [GNC] notify when new version is available?

2020-04-28 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
On platforms with an app store or package manager this doesn't make sense. It's
the
responsibility of those to inform the user of application updates. And on these
platforms it would be silly for each app to reinvent that wheel.

I am aware many applications on Windows will notify you when a new release is
available. That platform doesn't have a strong package manager or app store
story.

Links to the log files in the directory where the link to GnuCash data is

directory.
I'm on 3.9.  Linux is Peppermint 10, a Ubantu derivitive.On a side note;
someone was wondering why GnuCash didn't let us know about updates.  I was
using GNC for several years before I discovered the mailing lists and found

The manually entered transaction was to my old AR 131.  The correction that I
made in the business mode was to take that amount from account 131 and place it
properly in AR 132 which is the account that the business AR uses.  In both
cases the owner was identified.  In AR 132 (Business /Accounts Receivable) the
transaction was by making an invoice which had the owner and an Invoice Number.
The issue is that the report said it was an invalid transaction type
(expanding on the abbreviation used).

Re: [GNC] Report screen font size

2020-02-06 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
I found where I can change the font size and got it so a one column report
would fit (almost) in the window.  Unfortunately, the printed report also
shrunk too much. So, I tried exporting the report - the one that worked for me
was to export it as whatever.xls.  This opened beautifully in my spreadsheet
program and I was able to adjust the print copy as I wanted it.That took care
of the printed report.  Now, I'll set all of the font sizes down to 6 (or
smaller) so I can read the report on screen.  One of the font sizes (Link)
refused to change - I could change the numbers but it would not allow me to
set.  Which is unfortunate as I frequently use the links

[GNC] Report screen font size

2020-02-06 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
When I run a report, the font size on the screen is so large that the title
(Revenue and Expense Statement for Last Year) takes up 3 lines on my 1080X398
lap-top screen. This does make it extremely difficult to review the report
onscreen.  Is there something I can do to reduce the font size on screen?
I first noticed this in 3.7 and it is still there on 3.8.  I saw some mention
about font sizes earlier but they seem to be geared toward the printed report
which is fine on my systems.I run GNC on Windows 10 both at home and for my

Re: [GNC] AR problems

2020-01-15 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
Thank you Adrien for your detailed reply.  And my BP has dropped - I should
have waited another day before I made my "rant".  My apologies.

> won't show which invoices are paid!

The Receivables Aging Report shows all customers with a balance, as well as the
aging breakdowns of those balances. By default, only customers with a balance
are shown, but you can opt to show all customers if you like. Note, there are
problems with the standard version of this report. The beta version in the
experimental menu is better and will eventually be the standard. This is
probably the report you are looking for.

The Customer Overview *does* show a balance, though maybe not by default. There
is a down arrow with a drop-down menu to the far right of the header. From
there you can select visible columns, where you will find ?balance? as an
option.

The Customer Summary is not designed to show balances owed, but rather
profitability. However, it appears it doesn?t presently work properly. (and
some columns I can?t seem to figure out how to influence, that is, how does the
report calculate markup or expenses if those associated figures have no place
to be entered in the app?)

Seeing which invoices are paid is a little different, and arguably the UI could
be better here.

First, the new beta Customer Report has the option to show you the linked
?documents?, that is, which payments apply to which invoices and do so in a
simple or detailed fashion. Think of this report as a ?statement of account?
where you can show more or less detail as desired.

Second, the traditional and current official method for seeing which invoices
are paid/unpaid is to run a Find for all invoices (or by customer). There you
will see a Paid? checkbox column. You can?t mark them paid here, but you can
see if they are paid or not. You can also filter your search by if they are
paid or not, thus only giving you unpaid invoices, if you prefer. Sadly, this
result is not exportable nor can you copy/paste it somewhere else for
processing or tracking outside of GnuCash. (I?m pretty sure there is a bug
filed on this)

Third, the Business > Customer > Invoices Due Reminder dialog will list all
invoices that have not been paid in full, along with their remaining balances.
I normally run GnuCash less than full width on a 1080p monitor and I have
enough room on the side for this reminder list to always be visible. (as well
as the AP equivalent, and my scheduled transaction up-next list)

There are lots of ways to see the info you want, right out of the box. There
are others that might involve some creative searches and reporting based on the
AP or other Registers as well, but the above methods are much easier to work
with.

Wow!  When I get back to the office tomorrow, I'll dive into those reports
again.  I guess my frustration was that there wasn't an edit report from the
toolbar.  What I want to do is print statements for customers with a balance
due.  As it stands, I have to look at each of 100+ customers one by one to see
if they have a balance, then print their statement.

I?m not exactly sure what went wrong here. I?d have to do a test. But make sure
the customer you are issuing the credit note for is set for USD. (should be by
default) I believe the warning is about the customer?s assigned currency has to
match the account.

I also have been using GNC since 2.6.?  I have over 100 potential customers -
all members of my Post (club).  I imported the members last year from my member
spreadsheet. I will order items for them and most pay me sometime after they
receive them - even a year later.  This one, however, paid by cash and the item
is still in-transit - and that is a rare occurrence.  It's my understanding
that this credit will be applied to the invoice which will be made in the
future.  Payments either go into Cash on Hand or Checks on Hand. (They haven't
been deposited yet.)

Though I would ask, why do you want to issue a credit note linked to ?cash on
hand??
Usually a credit note line item will be posted against an income/revenue
account which will act as a reversing transaction. (a debit to income, rather
than the normal credit) The credit note itself will post a credit to AR, which
would reduce the customer?s AR balance.
Maybe a walk-through of the part

[GNC] Tracking designated balances in the total checking account balance?

>Say there is a total checking balance of $1000.00.  Then say there are
two standing funds one with $200.00 and the other with $400.00.
Conceptually I have:

>Fund A        $200.00
>Fund B        $400.00
>Undesignated    $400.00
>Total (as the bank statement shows) $1000.00

Nate:
What I have done is to have placeholder: CheckingThen under that I'll have Fund
A, Fund B, General (or Undesignated)Checking  $1,000.00
  Fund A  $200.00  Fund B  $400.00  General  $400.00
This way, you can view or make transactions to each fund while Checking shows
the total balance.  To reconcile, select Checking and check Sub-accounts. If I
need to balance the reconciliation, I do NOT use the feature in reconciliation
as it always puts that transaction in Checking!  I manually make the
transaction in General

[GNC] Moving from Sage Accounting and would like to keep sub-account totals viewable

David:

>I thought there used to be a lot more information than that.  I know that
you can use account codes in the account fields when editing transactions
instead of the tedious full tree account names.  Unfortunately, you cannot
make the account drop-down-list show the account code numbers, you have to
'just know' them.  I didn't find a reference to that.<
Having learned accounting "BC" (Before Computer), I needed to keep account
numbers.  My solution in GC is to prefix the Acct Name with the number as well
as in the Code field, ie:  101 Cash on hand.  This way, I only have to type 101
to select that account (or 610.1 to select fuel).

If you want subtotals, in reports at least,  make them sub-accounts of a
placeholder:610. Auto Expense  610.1 fuel  610.2 lube  610.3 repairsNote that I
put a '.' after 610 to remind myself it is a place holderOn reports this will
look like
Expenses610. Auto Expense (optional) 1168  610.1 fuel    123  610.2
lube 45  610.3 repairs 1000    (optional) Auto Expense
    1168
The options are in Edit/Report Options/Display

Re: [GNC] New computer to set up gnucash and migrate from old.

2019-06-18 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
Randy:"You would thing gnucash would build in a
backup/export/import function."It does have a backup function:  every time it
saves the data, it renames the old one with the date and time. They are still
in the data folder.  If I remember correctly, GC saves these for 30 days,
unless you changed it  Yes, I would like to see export/import functions that
don't rely on some special format.

I'll check it out. You would thing gnucash would build in a
backup/export/import function.

2019-06-17 Thread Bruce Irving via gnucash-user
I was running GC 2.6.19 on to win10 PCs.  The hard drive started to fail and
the shop was able to save the files before replacing the drive and installing
Win10 one the new one.  Since I have two clubs plus my own files, I've always
started by double-clicking the data file which was located in a folder called
qnucash where my other files for this entity was located.  Then I installed GC
(I believe 3.?) and copied the file that ended with .gnucash to the appropriate
folder and double clicked to start it.  Of course, I had to set GC up the way I
wanted but it had all of my transactions.
Unfortunately, it wasn't until later that I discovered that the configuration
files:

corrects a couple of issues that the old one had.  Thanks.

the help manual for the current version, I happen to knw that area has not
changed.

Does that answer your question?
