[GNC] Currency conversion

2023-12-14 Thread Ze'ev Ionis
I have a checking account in CDN $. I have a credit card in US $.

I made a transfer of C$ from Checking into US Visa. The notes show the correct
values, including the conversion rate. But the actual entries show the values
entered in C$ (e.g. 1,300) in both accounts - where it should be around $900 in
the Visa account. What am I doing wrong?

Yes and yes, got the pop up, the transactions show (in the notes) correct
information, but actual values show wrong information. Think 1300 and 1300,
instead of 1300 and 900.

Did you create the US Visa Card in USD currency under liabilities?

if so when you entered the transaction you should have got a pop up to enter
the conversion rate and the value which will be debited.

I hear the theme from the Twilight Zone playing in the background. I entered a
new transaction with the same values, and this time it worked. So I deleted
the old transaction, and everything seems to be good now. Don't understand,
but accept it.

Re: [GNC] gnucash-user Digest, Vol 218, Issue 35

2021-05-23 Thread Ze'ev Ionis
To all who replied:

Thank you. Immediately after posting, I (of course) found what I was looking
for. On the ‘accounts’ page, one of the selectable columns is “present”, which
is actually current balance. My mistake was looking for the term ‘balance’.
“Present” works very nicely. In the actual account page, the future
transactions are separated from the current balance by a thick blue line, which
also works perfectly for me.

Thanks for your help.

Where do you want to see the present balance? If you have the account
register open you can see the present balance in the bottom left corner of
the register next to the future balance, cleared balance, reconciled
balance and projected minimum balances. You can run various reports to get
many account balances on one page.
If, for some reason you want to temporarily hide future transactions in a
single account you can click View > Filter by > and choose to hide dates
after today...

In addition to David Carlson's answer:
On the Accounts tab use the down arrow (at the right end end of the top
line to display Present(GBP) (in my case, your base currency will
appear) as well as the Total. (There are lots of other options as well.)
The former is today's balance, the latter takes into account all
transactions.

Just to be sure, I changed I to Z, and when I tried that key

also did a search on AQBanking, as that is where I do my manual import, and
while many instances came up, none of them seemed to be connected to OFX files.

That's only on Windows. Ze'ev said they're using macOS. The menu item is
present on macOS and works as expected.

I just tested setting
 (gtk_accel_path "/gnc-plugin-ofx-actions/OfxImportAction" "i")
in ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Gnucash/accelerator-map and restarting GnuCash.
That also works as expected, bringing up the file chooser to select files to
import. Ze'ev, did you restart GnuCash after editing accelerator-map?

Do note, though, that using -prefixed accelerators on macOS overrides the
extended keyboard so having i as an accelerator means that you can't type
circumflex-accented letters, e.g. ô, in GnuCash. You might prefer
or to avoid that limitation. Meta is the command key; primary is
the command key on macOS and the control key on Linux and Windows.

John Ralls

Re: [GNC] defining key strokes

2023-04-10 Thread Ze'ev Ionis
IF I follow what you said, I see a QIF import window. There is no option on
the import menu to import OFX, except through running AQBanking. There is no
option in the accelerator-map to run AQBanking for OFX import (that I could
identify). I am on Windows 11, running GnuCash 15, build 5.0+(2023-03-25). AS
Gyle reported, OFX was omitted and a bug fix is scheduled.

[GNC] VISA Transactions downloads issue

2023-05-14 Thread Ze'ev Ionis
I download transactions from the CIBC bank here in Canada. Mostly, it works
great. However, two of my Visa transactions seem to have gotten "entangled".
That is, when I download either Visa, the transactions always go to one account
- call it V1. When I look in the Import Map Editor, Online Tab, I see that for
V2 the correct match string is there, but none of the transactions go there!
When I look at V1 there is no Match String, and all the transactions for V2 and
V1 invariably go there to V1. I have deleted The V1 and V2 entries a number of
times but cannot seem to get the match string to show up for V1 - it always
"sucks" the transactions for both V1 and V2 into itself! I figure there must
be a config file somewhere that I could edit directly but have no idea where
that might be. Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry – should have included this.. I’m on Windows 11, using 5.0 Build ID: git

Ze'ev Ioni,

Please tell us which version of GnuCash you are using and your operating
system. Did you recently update GnuCash?

Re: [GNC] VISA Transactions downloads issue

I use the menu options 'File/Import/Import OFX/QFX'. I don't use AQBanking. I
first download the file from the bank, and then import it using the option
above.

Do you mean that you're downloading via OFX DirectConnect using AQBanking? In
that case there's a config directory named .aqbanking in your home directory.
If you've been using aqbanking for a long time there will be three
subdirectories, backends, settings, and settings6. The last is the one of
interest. You're probably better off manipulating its contents via the
AQBanking setup program run via Tools>Online Banking Setup than trying to
figure out what to edit by hand.

If you're doing something else, please provide the details.

John Ralls
