Did someone already refer to
https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v4/C/gnucash-guide/basics-files1.html#basics-storage-comparison-tblsect[1]

That's a section in the tutorial about storing your data. And the note on
availability of the three
sql backends mentions you may have to install libdbi and the appropriate dbd
(sql) backends.

SQLite3 is incredibly widely used so it's already on just about everything

The disadvantage would be for those users who don't want or need it and
like to manage lean and clean systems.

Without getting into any specific issues, the less code and packages to
worry about, the less 'general' chance for bugs, breakage, and
vulnerabilities.

And while for I'm sure many if not most users, bandwidth and drive space
are not issues, for some, it still is.

I'm pretty sure that *is* documented on the Wiki build pages, or at
least used to be. I once built on Ubuntu and found that option on the
Wiki to get it working.

I was lightly following some Wiki Build Instruction discussion on IRC
recently and I think that very option (with needed dependency) was
pointed out as not being quite obvious.

Check out the Build on Linux pages (along with the sub-pages about
dependencies) and read their Talk sections for more current info and
state of the edits.

It was all a bit of a non-event really, what I *actually* needed to do

For information the library needed is called libdbd-sqlite3 in the

No; just that it's up to every package maintainer to do it, and we do not
have any control over that. You can petition with your
package-maintainer-of-choice to add the dependency.

[GNC] Can't "Save As" to sqlite, is it a compile option?

2020-09-13 Thread Chris Green
I am running GnuCash 3.8 Build ID: 3.8b+(2019-12-29) on [x]ubuntu 20.04.

I have started keeping a small PCC accounts with this but decided I
wanted to move to storing the data in sqlite rather than the default
XML.

It doesn't seem to be possible, if I click on SaveAs in the File menu
the only Data Format I'm offered is XML.

Is this because sqlite storage is a compile time option that hasn't
been included in the Ubuntu build, or is there something else I need
to do?
